About this property

Three Bedroom Time Capsule House in Hidden Gem Gwinn, Michigan

Welcome to Gwinn’s grooviest vacation home, a vibrant and eclectic family friendly environment to recharge in between your adventures and providing all the basic necessities to make you as comfortable as possible.

Located in a safe, quiet neighborhood, this house is .1 miles from the ORV/ATV trails at the end of Billings street, a short walk from downtown, the Escanaba River and beautiful tourist park, as well as various stores, locally owned restaurants and gas stations.

Gwinn is both tucked away + centrally located with easy access to a plethora of Upper Michigan’s most beloved locations, but plenty of simple joys within mere miles of your home away from home, and as a native, I’m happy to offer recommendations and activities.

After parking in the front of the house, guests follow the sidewalk around the right side of the house to enter with a keypad through the back side door. You will be greeted by a sizable mud room which leads you to a full kitchen.

Stocked with a wide range of pots and pans including options such as nonstick, stainless steel and cast iron, as well as baking sheet, pizza pan, strainer and mixing bowls, we also provide a small variety of spices, a toaster, coffee grinder, a drip coffee maker and more. Help yourself to complimentary coffee, creamer and other delights and snacks.

Across the entry to the kitchen is the living room, where there is a comfy sectional, accent chairs and a piano, as well as the TV only for HDMI use when connected to your own devices. The home features forced air and central AC, with the thermostat located in the living room on the left wall.

Near the living room entrance you can access the first main level bedroom, which also leads to the second main level bedroom. Each has its own double sized bed.

The first bedroom has a desk and printer, which can be used with HP 65 cartridges (we don’t provide ink as cartridges dry up with lack of use)

The second bedroom has a fold down treadmill under the bed with accessories in the top drawer of the taller dresser. In this second bedroom is also a nice sized closet with a few hangers.

Off the kitchen you will also find the bathroom. The main light is just outside the bathroom door (quirky old house charm) and another light above the shower can be turned on with the switch to the left of the shower. To the right of the shower is a switch for the fan. The bathroom will be stocked with a first aid kit and some feminine products, ten large towels under the sink, wash cloths, and a few hand drying towels. If you need more towels than that, please bring yourself some extras, or for a more extended stay, feel free to request extras.

Near the bathroom door is a staircase leading up to the small attic bedroom with two twin beds. This room can be slower to change temperature than the rest of the house so there are fans and a space heater up there to assist. Please do not leave the heater running when the room is not in use. The shade can be drawn to help maintain desired temperatures upstairs.

Outside, it wouldn’t be an Upper Peninsula yard without pine trees in front and back as well as gardens full of perennials and many native wildflowers. With sun and shade flowerbeds to admire, you’ll enjoy having a backyard to sunbathe in and trees to take shelter beneath during the summer months.

Bring your own firewood and have a bonfire in the backyard fire pit surrounded by outdoor string lights, lawn chairs and a few little tables for your food and drinks. This place is perfect for stargazing and because Gwinn isn’t too big and bright, the northern lights are often visible from here.

This is a small old, nice, inexpensive house in a small town. Only 20 miles from Marquett. 1 block from snowmobile trail. Clean, cozy, decent kitchen. The bathroom and beds a little small, but were fine. Way better than a hotel and small family oriented.

I was born and raised in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, spending three decades in Gwinn. I am the oldest of six, all homeschooled, and grew up on a small hobby farm. I am an artist, published illustrator, photographer, and massage therapist.

Why they chose this property

The Time Capsule Holiday House was my very first home moving out of my parents. I bought it after spending some time successfully growing my massage therapy business. I enjoyed a few years living there and making the place as old timey as I could, when the house next door went up for sale. I purchased that and moved my massage therapy practice there. Then I had the joy of living in one house and walking next door to the other for work! I more recently moved and got married, so now my former home is the vacation getaway and the house next door is where I stay when I am on one of my frequent trips to visit, where I continue seeing my clients when I’m in the area.

What makes this property unique

This house was built in 1920, and ended up belonging to the builder’s daughter until it was sold to me after she had moved out and passed away. Very little had changed in the house over the course of its life until I came along and splashed bright colors around and restored the original hardwood floors in as many rooms as I could. I added all of the gardens, painted the exterior, built the fire pit, and much more all by myself during my years as a single woman living on her own.
