A family celebration
We had a wonderful stay in the beautiful characterful farmhouse and surroundings. Everything is well appointed and great for three generations enjoying a family celebration together. The plum trees were also a big hit! Many thanks.

La Grivette, all that we hoped for and so much more!
After a month long stay in September, we are left with only fond memories of our time at this gem in Saint Colombo de Duras. The restored farm was the perfect balance of original character and modern comfort and the location couldn’t be beat. Waking to the sound of a distant rooster and a daily visit of a small herd of sheep and cattle just added to the ambiance. The sunsets and view looking out from the back patio were amazing; vineyards, farms and an ancient church with its bell ringing throughout the day. Our family enjoyed the many outdoor spaces to gather for alfresco dining, delicious food from the nearby villages of Duras and Monsegur and of course the wine! With lots of space, pool and game room, all members of our family had the most comfortable and pleasant stay. Omar, Sam and Fifi made us feel at home and provided us with local information and suggestions of farm markets, sightseeing and calendar events. With so many places to see within an easy drive, we struck out to medieval villages, wineries, weekly markets and mystery rides and were never disappointed. With our youngest family member taking his first steps in France, all the wonderful people we met and so many remarkable experiences, it was a holiday to always remember.

Tranquil & secluded beautiful barn renovation.
Impressive refurbished barn conversion, which gave an immediate wow factor on walking through the door. Although this barn was completed in 2003, it has been sympathetically restored to a very high standard keeping original features but with all the mod cons that make it a fabulous place to stay. The mezzanine levels were ideal for our teenagers, allowing them space if needed and the beds were very comfortable indeed. We were a party of 2 families & never felt on top of each other, whether we were around the pool, eating around the large outdoor tables or playing games in the cosy double height lounge area. The pool table, table tennis and plum orchard were also a big hit. Kathleen & Omar were extremely helpful both before our arrival & during our stay, with ideas of interesting local activities. A visit to the local night markets in Duras exceeded our expectations & a visit to the vineyard up the road to see Titou is a must, but leave plenty of time to chat and try the wines. We would thoroughly recommend La Grivette as a base to visit Bordeaux, Bergerac and St Emilion and it was so nice to return to the tranquil setting after a hard days sight-seeing. We would definitely consider revisiting La Grivette if back in the area.

Excellent Property
The property is well maintained with excellent views across to the church where you can hear the bells ringing every hour. We were a family of 11 and the farm house was perfect for all the ages from 2 to 60. The added table tennis and pool table kept the children and adults entertained. The owners could not have been more helpful from the initial booking to arrival. The owner Omar informed us of attractions including the local vineyard and its charismatic owner, Titous. He was more than happy to show us round his factory. A special thanks to the gardener, Chris who met us when we arrived early and directed us to the local shops. The Duras night market was excellent as was the local tree top adventure park which is very close by. A relaxing holiday and I would recommend the farm house to others.

Stunning House in Romantic Country Setting with Modern Amenities
I first stayed at La Grivette a few years ago, with my then boyfriend. We just wanted to get away somewhere and didn't know what to expect. We pulled in the driveway, found the key and opened the door and all I could say was "wow". I cannot describe to you what a stunning house this is. We went into every single room and tried to decide which room we wanted to stay in. Each had a unique style and each was romantic in its own way. I wanted to sleep in a different room every night and only decided not to for the sake of the housekeeper. The house is open with very high ceilings and some really large rooms. You can tell it's an old house with original stone work. But it has been meticulously restored and modernized without sacrificing its rustic charm. I especially love the barn door which allows natural light to flood into the office/entertainment area. We drove around a lot the first time we went there. There are charming villages within an hour's drive. The closest one is just a short distance away. There aren't too many more romantic things than driving around in the wine country where life seems to have stood still for centuries. Some towns look like they have stayed exactly the same for hundreds of years. It was one of the best experiences of my life. The best part was my now-husband proposed right there in the house! We have been back a few times since then. We always choose to go during off-peak season for the peace and quiet. But maybe next time we will gather some friends and go there during the summer. The pool area looks very relaxing and great for entertainment.

The perfect spot to relax or as a hub for exploration
This beautifully restored old stone farm house was exactly the romantic image I had in mind for our Bordeaux adventure. Regal and comfortable all in one. After a day of exploring the surrounding towns, markets, and castles, it was fantastic to head back to our own little chateaux. Evenings on the patio with a glass of red, were the perfect place to unwind and watch the sunset. Dinners in front on an old world roaring fireplace felt almost surreal. Lovely!

An extraordinary week in Bordeaux
Our family gathering at La Grivette was probably the highlight of my year. The chateau gave every reason not to venture out, from the beautiful restoration of this old farmhouse, to the modern kitchen, huge fireplaced dining rooms and living areas and specious bedrooms in every nook and cranny, to the lovely exterior patio and gardens surrounded by verdant meadows - a feast to the senses. Coffee and a croissant at first light were very much looked forward to. And yet we did manage to venture out, to explore nearby villages and peruse their farmers' markets, trucking home our goodies for great dinners by the fire. I have to say that it was a divine week and I would love to do it all over again.

Our favourite place in France
We have returned to La Grivette several times over the few years and can't recommend it highly enough. The building itself is beautifully renovated and the tranquility of the location is second to none. A truly wonderful place to stay.

The Best!
La Grivette, was a fantastic French experience and an ideal place for a family holiday. The owners couldn't have done more to make our stay comfortable and accommodated our every need. We travelled as an extended family - grandparents through infant children, and the host family even supplied books and toys for the little ones! The property is a beautifully restored farm house, with lots of space - there were 7 of us. There was no shortage of fresh linen or towels, the kitchen was well stocked and all the beds were comfortable! La Grivette is surrounded by fruit orchards and sits in a very tranquil location minutes from three small villages. The stone terraces that surround the house are filled with lavender and provide a perfect place for al fresco dining. The farm proved to be an ideal resting place between excursions to St. Emilion, Bordeaux, and many other French attractions. Daily markets were within an easy drive or bike ride, and the night markets provided a fun (economical!) and interesting way to dine in the evening and explore a number of smaller villages within 10 - 20 minutes of La Grivette. There are a number of lovely restaurants in the area as well. We love to play tennis and took advantage of the local club almost every day. The towns people were friendly and helpful and the lattes, cheese, chocolates, baguettes and of course the wine from the local shops provided daily taste sensations. La Grivette will make you fall in love with rural France and if we could, we go back in a heartbeat! It was an ideal spot to truly experience the "French way"!

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with La Grivette - at the time only an abandoned farm house - during a long weekend visiting friends who lived in the area. It was a real 'coup de coeur' from the minute I saw the front courtyard, overgrown with abandoned roses, until we opened the back window that perfectly frames the Roman church off in the village. That was it - I had to own it. Little did I imagine the decade it would take to renovate... but that makes for interesting stories and we had great vacations with family, friends and anyone else I could convince to come camp and work on the property.

What makes this property unique

La Grivette is unique because of its charm and its isolated location. So many of the old farms were built right along the road, or have neighboring houses right next to them. If you are looking for tranquility, beautiful views, gorgeous sunsets over a Roman church, lovely walks, and the best night sleep you've ever had, then La Grivette is ideal place for you.
