QUITE & QUITE

Just what we were looking for in all aspects. Cool mornings and cloudless sun baked days. We thank our host for sharing their place with us. Well appointed interior with cozy master bed room; just for starters. I could go on and on. Many thanks for the notebook on the home, local restaurants and other recommendations.

Perfect 7 Day stay in Montana

The whole experience was awesome. The house was fantastic, even has ac, loved seeing the horses in the evening in the pasture. Beds were super comfy. Great location for hiking, fishing and down hill biking in Big Sky. The back deck was perfect for post adventure cocktails.

DA-JA View Like You've NEVER Seen Before

This cabin is simply the perfect "home base" for a western MT adventure. Beautifully situated on a hillside over a broad area comprising several ranches, the views from the wrap-around porch are stunning from every angle. The bed and sitting rooms are incredibly comfortable and inviting; the kitchen is PERFECTLY outfitted for real use--I mean every type of dish, pot, pan and appliance you could possibly need. It's close to Yellowstone, Beartooth Mtns and world-class fishing rivers like the Madison; neighboring Livingston is a great town to wander around; as is Bozeman. We even took off for a couple days of hiking @ Glacier from here (5 hrs N). For Serious Silence, sit on the front deck of the cabin @ around 6:30 am or 7:30 pm....you'll hear it. This is an exceptional mountain home from which to start and end each day's adventure. If SW MT is where you're headed, DA-JA View is definitely your "huckleberry" (i.e. exactly right).

our dream of what Montana would be

Our group had never visited Montana before and this place was basically our dream of what it would be like. Tons of different, comfortable spaces throughout the house to spread out and enjoy the amazing views. Nice kitchen for when we ate in and great recommendations for when we ate out.

The house on Wine Glass, Livingston, MT

This was the perfect house for 2 couples out to enjoy Yellowstone and all the area has to offer. Cocktails on the wrap around porch and coffee and sunrise were ideal. David couldn't have been more accommodating and house was just what we expected. The photo's are true to form.

Amazing!

We loved staying at DaJa View. The views were amazing! The neighbors were great. Everyone was so nice. We enjoyed the ride up and down the driveway everyday seeing all the horses and deer. The house is gorgeous and had everything we needed and more. The beds were comfy! It was a great place to come home to every night after we finished our daily adventures! We were sad to leave and can’t wait to come back!

Livingston Unwind

This place is an ecclectic mix of rustic and comfort full of interesting family memories. The wrap around deck and serene view of the valley was our favorite place. Livingston city lights at night. The rooms and separate floors made for personal peace and quiet. Just a short drive to town to enjoy the sites, the river or mountain streams, or even Yellowstone. Loved the birds and the flowers...

Two Views

The cabin was nicer than I had expected. It is well equipped, clean and it has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Back porch sunsets and stars, satellites and town view on the front porch were enjoyed almost every night. The only disappointment was no available closet or drawers in the master bedroom. There was a bit more instructions and guidelines than I have seen for a rental cabin as well as a late notice for scheduled exterior maintenance work. Overall I would recommend DA-JA View.

Great house. 2 miles of challenging gravel road was disappointing.

Our overall experience was somewhat disappointing. I was concerned about pulling a big trailer onto a remote location. I asked about the drive and was told that it was well maintained and the trailer wouldn't be a problem. The road was very rough washboard with deep gravel in some spots. Motorcycles were part of our plan and this 2mile road was too much of a challenge for two wheels. When we pulled into the property, several pine trees had sizeable limbs extending over the drive at about 3 feet off the ground. These were definitely an issue for both the pickup truck and the trailer. There were also 2 unused vehicles parked in an already narrow driveway. The house itself is really nice. It wasn't as isolated from other homes as we expected. At times we could hear neighbors voices.

Perfect Paradise Valley Place

Our family from AZ and CA spent two days at the "Da-Ja View" cabin in June before a trip to Yellowstone Park. We enjoyed observing the birds and deer, some local fishing, and a trip to Chico Hot Springs. Everything was completely organized, fully stocked, and we had a great time.

Roomy cabin

This is a nicely decorated roomy and comfortable place to stay. A bit of a drive from the southern end of the park but a beautiful drive. The only thing I would warn readers is that the lower level bedroom has no windows and thus no view. From the photo we imagined a walkout basement bedroom with view. That said there was plenty of sitting and living areas around the decks and on the main level. Owners set a great overview of Livingston, which was nice.

About the host

Hosted by DR

Host profile image
We are North Carolina natives with family ties to Montana going back over 70 years. A group of young Tarheels, all war veterans, came west looking for better jobs in the booming timber industry. Some couldn't take it and quickly returned. Some died here before they could choose whether to stay or go.

The "JA" in "DA-JA View" was fathered by a wonderful, hard-working gentleman who survived 10 long years here working in an industry and in weather, and living in conditions, that were nothing less than brutal. JAne started school here in Livingston just down the road in Paradise Valley when 2-room schoolhouses were still the norm. Her "alma mater" still stands and has been renovated into a nice little house on Old Yellowstone Road.

In the late 1990's, Jane and her side of the family made a trip west which included Livingston. BOOM! She decided it was time to reestablish here. I was skeptical to say the least. My family made 2 cross-country treks in the 60's which skirted north and south of here (why, Dad?). Think National Lampoon's "Vacation" on steroids. I had skied virtually every major Rocky Mountain slope (except Big Sky, ironically). BUT I had never been to Yellowstone Country. BOOM! I was hooked. At that time, the great land rush for vacation home property was just beginning. But we found out quickly that most of the prime building spots were already gone. After months of commuting and futility looking for the "right" place, we got lost and traveled up what is now our road. It was the wrong direction for the property we were actually looking for. But it was actually fate, luck, or Divine Providence steering us in the perfect direction. We love it here!

Were it not for a twist of fate, DA-JA View would have never come to be. Jane's father is gone now, but he was able to visit several occasions. He approved, but he was astounded by what Livingston had become. DA-JA View proudly stands as part of his legacy.

This is Heaven on Earth. This is The Last Best Place.

Why they chose this property

Heard the old saw "Location, location, location." That certainly applies to "Vacation. vacation, vacation." Notice that most Paradise Valley vacation rentals are down in the valley. That's OK and there certainly are views everywhere.

But if you would rather be UP looking out and down over the Valley rather than DOWN in the Valley looking up at mountains like the one we're on, your choices are limited. Mountainside properties overlooking the Valley are scarce.

Even though we're up and away, It's a quick trip up or down our road to reach the main highway. As you travel on our private road, you will be going through a huge horse ranch. You will pass few homes, and the journey is as beautiful as the destination. You will likely see deer, antelope or other wildlife along the way, so be careful.

The value of the location of DA-JA View cannot be overstated. The sensation of sheer spaciousness are incredible - even at night! The grandeur of rainbows, sunsets, sunrises and thunderstorms are magnified. The sounds of trains in the distance as you sit on our decks, patios, or porches are unforgettable.

We found the land by accident after we got lost trying to find another property. Once you see the view, you will understand why it was love at first sight. There is no spot on earth quite like DA-JA View.

We're minutes from town. 35 minutes from BZN airport. 50 minutes north of Gardiner, the northern entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Six minutes or so from Rosa's, the best pizza in Montana. And maybe 10 minutes from Mark's In & Out which has been serving legendary burgers and shakes for over 60 years.

We rent DA-JA View at a rate comparable the the Valley rentals. But that is where the comparison ends.

Compare location, space, amenities, and rates. No Yellowstone Country property beats DA-JA View.

Yellowstone Country should be on everyone's bucket list. This is Montana's Paradise Valley, the Last Best Place.

What makes this property unique

DA-JA View, located within a private horse ranch, is one of a few mountainside residences available for vacation rental in Yellowstone Country. One can only truly appreciate the majesty of Montana's Paradise Valley by viewing it from above and this is, by every measure, a PRIME location.

Even the 2-mile drive up to the house from the main highway is a delight. Wildlife abounds, so be very careful, especially at night.

The place is rustic yet luxurious. Close to civilization, but feels like you're alone. With the lights of Livingston twinkling at night in the valley below, you have amazing views 24 hours a day. We are about 50 BEAUTIFUL minutes from Gardiner, MT, the northern entrance of Yellowstone National Park.

"Discover Livingston resting on the banks of the Yellowstone River surrounded by majestic mountains. Livingston delivers an eclectic blend of shops, museums, galleries, live theater and music, as well as unique restaurants for every taste. Explore Park County to experience the rivers and ranges, ranches and romance. Whether you seek the rugged outdoors or culture, cuisine and comforts, you'll find exciting places and friendly faces here in Livingston, Park County, Montana."

"Located just north of Yellowstone National Park, Livingston sits on the banks of the mighty Yellowstone River. The Yellowstone River is the longest free flowing river in the United States and is home to some of the best trout fishing in the world. Hiking, biking and horse back riding opportunities abound in the area making Livingston the perfect vacation spot. Known as a sportsman's paradise, many experienced guides and outfitters can help visitors have the hunting or fishing experience of a life time. The wide streets of the historic downtown harkens back to the days of Calamity Jane, a known resident of Livingston. Boutiques, cafes and art galleries featuring some of the countries most renown Western artists make a day of shopping a cultural surprise."
