About this property
PRIVATE ISLAND with BEACH "LOON ISLAND"
Loon Island is a family heritage property. Located on Lake Bonaparte and has been maintained and enjoyed by five generations of our family. This is a very rustic Adirondack "camp" style Island retreat. This is not for you if you are looking for modern amenities beyond electricity and running hot and cold water. It is for you if you love nature, water, and adventure. We share our gem with you!
Please note we offer weekly rentals only, from Sunday through Sunday.
Loon Island in Lake Bonaparte was first built upon by our grandfather well before you could drive to this shore, but it has always been accessible by foot from the mainland over a short stretch of beach and board walk which will also probably be your main playground here. The main cottage and out-buildings are rustic and very Adirondack "camp" but we have the essential plumbing and electricity. Many generations of children and dogs have spent their summers here.
The space
Exclusive rental of Loon Island (approximately 3 acres) with two cottages and two sleeping cabins for maximum privacy. Many furnishings are authentic family heirlooms and rich with the history of the Adirondacks. You may feel as you are going back in time towards peaceful simpleness. Listen to and watch the loons; wade out 100 yards into the clear water of the sandy beach; canoe your heart away; explore the trails in privacy; and enjoy connecting to nature.
Big Camp: two story camp sleeps 7, has a large screened porch, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, running hot and cold water, electricity, kitchen, dining area, living room, separate bath house with flush toilet and tiled shower
Donna's Camp: A smaller one story cabin that sleeps 2, has a screened porch, kitchenette, hot and cold water, indoor flush toilet and tiled shower
Log Cabin: sleeping cabin for 2, electricity, outhouse with a composting toilet
Nice House: sleeping cabin for 2, electricity (used to be the ice house where ice was cut from the lake in the winter, stored in blocks, and used in fridges in the summer
Additionally, there is a small tree house, canoe and paddles, stand up paddle board, rowboat, large private sandy bottom swimming area with a floating dock, and a small boat dock for your use.
Drinking water is carried in only. Tap water is hot and cold and comes directly from the lake. This is a place to unplug. Although there is electricity, there is no wifi, TV, or video players. Take a tech-free vacation! Some cell service is available.
Guest access
Plenty of free parking on the mainland with carrying in of supplies over a boardwalk and paths. Our island has the privacy of an island but the convenience of not having to arrive by boat due to a narrow strip of land filled in over the last century. The walk to the farthest and largest cabin is about a football field length among the woods, rocks, and roots. The many private paths provide a variety of walks from cabin to cabin. Discover many special locations such as the gazebo, hammocks, and small natural cave.
Other things to note
All of the cabins have been built by our ancestors and contain loads of history. For example the Nice House sleeping cabin was once the Ice House for storing blocks of ice from the lake for their ice chests in the summer. The decor is rustic and original to the cabins and most items have done form of family history. So, if you want to swing back in time to an authentic rustic Adirondack experience this is the place for you.
