About this property
Mesa Sky Disk - Eco-Chic Desert Escape - Strawbale House - Cabin
Welcome to Mesa Sky Disk! This stunning 3-bedroom, 3-bath property features a main house and a separate cabin, newly built in 2024 with eco-friendly strawbale construction.
- Untouched desert landscape.
- Unique thoughtful natural design for non-toxic, fresh air living.
- Hot tub, cold plunge, fire pit and great views.
The space
Welcome to a unique desert retreat that merges sustainability with style. The main house, built with beautiful strawbale construction, offers two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The separate cabin provides a loft bedroom and one bathroom — perfect for extra privacy and space for everyone.
This strawbale house features 20-inch-thick walls made with clean barley straw from Colorado, finished with three coats of natural lime from St. Astier, France —free of cement, gypsum, or toxins. No vapor barriers were used, allowing for healthy air movement.
The cabin is built into the native landscape without disturbing vegetation or altering water flow. This is the last permit in Yucca Valley to be granted before Joshua Tree standoff requirements were adopted, which enabled us to contour the building around a group of Joshua Trees — including some twenty pups you can see on the North side of the cabin.
"Like two petals on a flower, the two sides of the house rise out of the desert, inclining toward the rich and subtle vistas of the Mojave Desert. Built with strawbales, which lend themselves to the curved form, and other natural insulation like blown-in cellulose and lava rock, this building creates a refuge from the dramatic temperature extremes typical of desert life."
