Fantastic Winter Location

We stayed for about a week over New Year's Eve and this was a great place! I would definitely stay here again and I would suggest this home to anyone. Very clean. Very cosy and warm. Nice showers. Four good sized bedrooms. Board games. The house just has a friendly vibe to it. It made me smile when we walked inside. The hot tub is delightful in the winter (but the snow is really cold on your feet when you get out! Bring flip flops.). The kitchen is well stocked and even had a few spices and cooking oil. We didn't eat at any restaurants. The location is great! It is within walking distance of both the harbor and the Bonus Grocery Store. The town was cloudy every night, so we drove about 30 minutes out of town into clear skies to see the northern lights. The Northern Lights were all around us in 360 degrees and shimmered in green and pink/red fingers of light. The road to the town was pretty well passable and the location was reasonable for winter. I don't recommend driving from Reykjavik at 11-1am in blowing snow, but we did it! The studded snow tires and the reflectors along the road made it possible. The fireworks on New Year's Eve were unbelievable. I've never seen a display like that in my life. It seemed like the entire block was setting off the best display I could imagine and it lasted for 45 minutes. The host is really quick about answering questions through this app. He was very helpful and friendly.Five stars! Excellent place!

Magical

Great, spacious, modern, clean, great vibe home with a gorgeous view of the harbor and near the lighthouse which is the place to view the Northern lights. We followed all of Bjorn’s suggestions of where to eat and visit and he was spot on. A very attentive host. Thank you!

Great house in a great location

Totally remodeled home in a perfect setting. Quiet, peaceful setting, overlooking the harbor - and yet a 5 minute walk from everywhere. The house is great for a family or group. One bedroom and bathroom upstairs and 3 bedrooms and a bathroom downstairs (the stairs are a bit steep, so little kids and older folks may need to be careful). The kitchen is fully equipped and has everything you need. We loved the house, and were so glad that we decided to spend a few days in Stykkisholmur. The town still feels like an old fishing village, and it is only beginning to be discovered by tourists. We wou7ld stay here again in a heartbeat.

Cute historic house

We spent four nights here and it was a great location to tour the peninsula. Hot tub was a plus. Loved the local pool. House was comfortable and clean. House is on two levels and the stairs to three of the four bedrooms are very steep. It would only be a problem to older people.

Must stay if traveling to Snaefellsness. Great home!

My family of five (10/12/14 yo) had a great visit. Town was great, home was awesome. Has everything you need. And more. We plan to come back. Home with character in a town that lacks none. Bjorn was very responsive. Perfectly located to explore Snaefellsnes and the Northwest Fjords. Can walk to ferry, groceries and dining.

Cozy, traditional home with all the modern comforts

This lovely little home exceeded my expectations. The four bedrooms were cozy and comfortable, with heated floors throughout. The kitchen was well set up for our family of 7, with a fantastic coffee machine. The house is only a couple of minutes walk from the harbor, where we enjoyed the Viking Sushi boat tour. The WiFi was good and everything in the house was clean and in excellent working condition. The washer / dryer were especially appreciated as we had lots of wet, muddy clothes to take care of! Would definitely recommend staying here for anyone visiting the Snaeffellnes peninsula.

Great place to stay in Stykkisholmur

We really enjoyed staying at Bjorn's home. It has a great view and is very roomy. Bjorn was very helpful and communicated very well with us. Most of home has just been remodeled. It is easy walking distance to old town. We would certainly stay there again. Richard (North Carolina)

I am a Marine engineer, and I have been working on ships all around the world.

Since 2009 I have been living in Barcelona with my wife and our 2 children.

Why they chose this property

I am a born and bread Hólmari (person from Stykkishólmur) and I purchased just after I graduated in 2004 and moved back to my home town again, I have been restoring it ever since. When I bought it it was actually 2 small apartments, as when built the whole basement was only used as a potato storage. and sometime in the 80´s it had been converted into a small room.

It was only in 2015 that we decided to join together the two floors, and therefore it has a slightly weird layout with bathrooms and such.

We try to go ourselves back to Iceland once or twice per year, and we absolutely love staying in Stykkishólmur, and as the old couple that lived there before I bought it told me "It has a great spirit"
