About this property
Charming rural 2-bedroom cottage with amazing view in Hartland, Vermont
This cozy cottage sits on a well-maintained dirt road overlooking fields, woods, and the NH mountains, As you walk from the drive up a little hill to the house the hills and mountains spread out before you. Sheep often graze the front pasture in summer. Watch a variety of birds from the patio and kitchen windows, nesting in summer and feeding in winter, Wander through the yard to enjoy the flower garden and shrubs, let children play on the swing set, or relax in Adirondack chairs to watch the light change over the hills and mountains. When evening comes, light a blaze in the fire ring. The electric fence around the bird feeder keeps black bears from becoming your guests while the electric fence around the sheep pasture prevents the coyotes from coming for a meal. We are in the country!
The cottages boasts of modern amenities combined with antiques. Heidi's parents cut and milled the wood to build this home. Pine cupboards and floors remain. The trim in the living room is all from one butternut tree. This is a cottage with character, somewhat like walking into your grandmother's home. The kitchen is equipped with basic supplies needed to cook as well as the dishes and utensils. There is an electric range, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, and coffee maker. The living room has a desk, couch, loveseat, and TV.
There are two bedrooms connected by a bathroom with washer and dryer. Only one bedroom (with a full size bed) has an air conditioner within it. The other (with a queen bed) and the rest of the cottage are cooled by a free standing air conditioner. There is baseboard heat throughout the cottage and you control the thermostat. We intend this space to be used by two couples or a couple with children. We reserve the right to decline guests with a party larger than the beds can accommodate. Only one floor has been remodeled and is available to guests.
The cottage is accessed by going through a "woodshed" to the cottage door. This is the style of many farmhouses in Vermont. This is not part of the cottage but is how you get to the cottage.
It is a great place to store bikes, strollers, or skis, out of the weather but not in the house. It is also where we store the charcoal grill and supplies, gardening tools, bird seed, and kindling for the outdoor fire. The gas grill is outside.
