La Hueca is our favorite area in Vieques. The jungle is tall, there are giant white boulders creeping down the mountain to the coast, and it hosts two excellent beaches, Playa Negra and Playa Grande and your accommodations will be walking distance to Playa Negra (Black Sand Beach).
La Hueca is also host to horse riding tours, Playa Negra Fine Foods, ATV tours, and even a gun and shooting club. It is an up and coming area.
Being that there has been little to no development in the area for the last 50yrs (See Pragmacio's book, La Route, The Forgotten Side of Vieques) you find yourself in a robust tropical countryside while still being a mere 4min drive to Esperanza (where are the bar and restaurant / tour action is located).
It is the PERFECT location of convenience and distance. Hard to beat to be honest.
Also nearby your accommodations in La Hueca is Robin Mojito Shack and restaurant (they also have a small convenience store there). And just a bit further down the road is where many of Vieques' flagship beaches are located, such as Sunbay. You're also in a good spot for the Bioluminescent Bay tours.
You cant go wrong with La Hueca.
