About this property
Waterfront loft apartment with Mountain View
Newly built loft apartment down a private road on the shores of Taunton Bay, with views of Cadillac Mountain and other peaks on Mount Desert Island (MDI). Easy access to Acadia National Park (24 miles), Bar Harbor & MDI, but away from the hustle and bustle. Unique, tranquil location near Acadia's Schoodic Peninsula (20 miles), Frenchman’s Bay Conservancy hiking areas, the Downeast Sunrise Trail, the "Bold coast" and the many ponds and lakes of Franklin, Eastbrook and Sullivan.
This new loft apartment, above our shop, has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a spacious open concept kitchen, living room and dining area, as well as a private deck, all with fantastic views. *Please note that you must climb 18 stairs to access the loft. Due to the open staircase and balcony 20 feet off the ground, the loft is not child-proof, and for that reason we do not allow children under the age of 6.
The loft has a private entrance (accessed by a key in a lockbox) and a covered parking area. There are 3 heat pumps in the unit for heating and cooling. Smart TV, WIFI, and books and games for rainy or lazy days. Essentials provided: toiletries, all linens, coffee, tea, common spices and kitchen implements. Washer and dryer, and ample closet and storage space. Guide to local attractions, maps and suggestions for things to do, places to eat, nearby shops and services.
The property is close to Acadia National Park, the downeast “bold” coast, many areas for fishing, hiking, swimming and paddling. Feel free to bring your own canoes, kayaks and paddleboards, or you can rent them nearby. We have private shore access (though you’ll need to pay attention to the tides) and can tell you about our favorite local ponds which do not see large crowds.
Taunton Bay is nationally recognized as a significant tidal estuary, supporting shellfish harvesting (clams, lobsters, and crabs), sea run fish harvesting (elvers, alewives, and river herring), oyster aquaculture, and seaweed harvesting. The variety of marine life attracts many species of birds, both resident and migratory. In early May several species of fish migrate up the stream adjacent to our property to spawn in Great Pond – this run of fish attracts ospreys and eagles, as well as seals, to the cove, making late spring one of the most active bird-watching times.
Guests have exclusive use of the apartment, attached deck, a private entrance and covered parking. There is water access at the cove on the front edge of our property, on the north side of the loft.
