About this property
'Tugwassa' On Downeast Jones Pond- poet's cottage with wi-fi
My cottage is close to great views, parks, and art and culture. You’ll love my place because of the coziness of this quaint family owned efficiency cottage on Jones Pond. Tugwassa is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids) from all backgrounds.
Explore the pond in a provided canoe, kayak, or rowboat. Get ready to enjoy a relaxing &/or adventurous vacation, your choice! Read, play games, do puzzles, watch local TV & DVDs/videos. There is wi-fi available.
The space
Tugwassa is a small cabin built in 1922 by German artist. It has been remodeled and had an addition over the years, and lost the old out buildings. It was occupied only in the summer months by supply ministers for the Maine Seacoast Mission Society. My family summered there every year since 1951, and eventually bought the 1/4 acre when the property was liquidated by the mission in 1974. After the passing of my father, my mom moved up here from NY & Conn. to make Tugwassa her permanent home, with much insulation and hard work! She wrote her poetry and did her painting at her beloved "cottage" by the pond, communing with the nature surrounding it. She lived there alone with her cat until several months before she died at 87 in 2010. I have endeavored to retain the "homey" atmosphere and spirit of the cabin for guests to experience.
Guest access
The cabin has a kitchen area, a dining area, a living room area, 2 bedrooms ( 1 queen bed, 2 twins), a full shared bathroom. There is also a screened gazebo to enjoy the outdoors relatively insect free, or sit pond side on the deck, on the dock, or in lawn chairs and Enjoy the night sky, perfect for stargazing.
Other things to note
As I am the sole caretaker/cleaning person/proprietor, I ask that you treat my cottage with respect and care for it as well as/better than your own home. Please leave the cottage neat and clean and ready for the next guest. Replace the bed linens and towels with fresh ones, and leave the laundry for me.
