About this property

Owasco Lake Shoreline Home with Boat, Canoe and Kayaks Included

Guests are sure to enjoy a memorable vacation in this fully furnished, 3 bedroom 2 bath ranch home on the northwest shore of Owasco Lake.  The master bedroom suite has a king sized bed, and adjoining master bath. The remaining 2 bedrooms are furnished with new queen beds. A sleeper-sofa in the living room pulls out to sleep an additional 2 adults or 3 small children. A "full house" will sleep 8 comfortably. The living room looks out through huge windows for a beautiful vista across and down the lake. The kitchen is complete and is attached to a dining room that seats 8 around the table. If you have small children, you will absolutely love this end of Owasco -- as you can walk out into the water a quarter of a mile and still only have the water level come up to an adult's waste. There is a fire pit right on the edge of the lake where you can sit out and enjoy a moon rise. There are 6 steps down into the water from the front lawn. A few large shade trees here as well, making those hot summer days even more enjoyable after you come in off a full day on the lake. The large deck allows for barbecuing, eating outside or simply resting in a comfortable chair with a good book. We include 2 kayaks, a two-person canoe, and an aluminum fishing boat and motor, as well as all new life jackets. If you need to borrow a pole or two, or some fishing tackle, you can help yourself. We have plenty of games and puzzles for those "occasional" rainy days.

Camp Gramp is located directly across from Emerson Park. You can walk to the Merry-Go-Round Theater. THIS is THE BEST spot to view the whole lake from, you can watch weather coming up from the south end as you sit out on the deck. You'll hear the geese honking as they fly over and land on the lake. We have bald eagles and ospreys that may show off as they pluck a fish out from the shallows in front of the house on the water. Nature, relaxation and recreation can all be found at Camp Gramp!

We are just south of Auburn, NY with easy interstate access. Day trips to Montezuma Wildlife Refuge, Harriet Tubman's home, William Seward's estate, and a short drive to the Women's Rights National Park in Seneca Falls, NY are all close. There are numerous wineries and breweries within 20 miles of our home to enjoy (if you bring a designated driver, of course -- LOL).

But the BEST part will be walking out into the lake and floating in the sun with a sandy bottom under your feet!

What a view!

We enjoyed a wonderful family vacation/reunion at Camp Gramp in late August. The house was quite tidy and the deck overlooking Lake Owasco was wonderful. The house is a short walk to a waterside park and a quick drive to a number of fun things to do. The layout of the house gave all six of us enough privacy. We had a great time here.

Beautiful location

The lake house exceeded our expectations. It was in a beautiful setting, right on the lake. It was honestly the most well-equipped rental we have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in many. Our grandchildren loved the daily duck visits in the backyard, The fishing was great, we loved the kayaks too! So many nice features. We will definitely come back to Camp Gramps!

Wonderful!

Our stay was one of the best vacations we’ve had in long time. We are normally ocean vacation people but decided to try a lake this year. This house had everything we wanted! Mark thought of everything we might need/want-including a recliner which my husband loved after a day on the lake! Thank you so much Mark!

Relaxing stay on Owasco Lake!

Property was in a great location near Emerson Park. Convenient for walks and entertainment. Camp Gramps was very well maintained and had all the comforts of home. Easy process to rent and gain access on first day. Very quiet neighborhood except for July 3rd fireworks show which was awesome. Highly recommend this location.

Perfect for families

We had a great time at this comfortable lakefront cottage! The house was super clean and had everything we could possibly need. The layout is convenient and it is larger than it looks in the pictures. The boats, water toys and fishing poles that were available for us to use were definitely a highlight! We enjoyed walking with the kids to the playgrounds and pier in nearby Emerson Park, and to the Green Shutter for ice cream. We would definitely come back!

Lake Owasco Trip

The house was as labeled very accurately. Completely reminds me of my grandparents place from the 80’s. We only were in the house for meals and sleep. It worked out very well. The sand bar on the lake was awesome. We were on the lake every day jumping, floating, swimming, playing, etc. This was exactly what our family needed and we didn’t want the week to end. Thank you

Our week at Camp Gramp

This was our first time staying on Owasco lake. Camp Gramp is in a great location. It’s close to Emerson Park and we were able to listen music one night. It’s also close to Auburn so lots of places to go. While the cottage is close to others it doesn’t feel at all cramped. The yard is nice and level which was great for yard games. We definitely enjoyed the motorboat, kayaks , canoe and water toys. I believe we took advantage of the motorboat every day to cruise around the lake. The amenities at the cottage were abundant, many that we don’t have at home such as the trash compactor and garbage disposal. Probably the only thing we would say that wasn’t on the plus side was that the water is shallow. The lake is clean and the grass is very short which was great. It’s obvious after being there for a week that everyone takes that in stride as we also did. We do understand that it’s the nature of the lake at this end and don’t want it to be a poor reflection on Camp Gramp. Our eighteen year old son commented that this was his favorite place that we’ve stayed at which is high praise from him and we agree.

Perfect Location on the lake

We enjoyed the amazing views, coffee on the deck, kayaking, swimming, and proximity to hiking! The house had a very well-equipped kitchen, and we had no trouble cooking and grilling. There were also tons of little Knick knacks…watching teenagers try to open cassette tapes is amusing:D. Owners were very responsive! Would definitely like to stay again!

Such a relaxing vacation at Camp Gramp!

This house we rented reminded us of our Grand parents, with all the antiques in the house! It was a very cozy feeling, the house was super clean, the water was clean and great. We got out fishing most days! But didn’t catch too many fish. But that’s ok, just getting out on the boat we brought with us was fun in its self! We had a wonderful vacation here. The owners were super nice and accommodating to us! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice place to stay even with young children. I can’t say enough about Camp Gramps! Thank you Camp Gramps 💕💕🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A piece of Heaven

This was our first experience at the Finger Lakes. Camp Gramp is absolutely fantastic! Relaxing on the deck, feeding the ducks cheerios (my favorite thing), floating in tubes, barbecues and toasting marshmallows by the firepit. Camp Gramp has it all. You lose track of time here and its just what the doctor ordered for stress relief. We loved having Auburn so close by with so many historical sites to visit. Moros Table was our last nights dinner out and everything was yummy! Already booked for two weeks next year.

About the host

Hosted by Mark Bruland

Host profile image
Grandpa & Grandma Lessig (a.k.a "Tuie & Les") had the opportunity to purchase the entire "end of the lake" on Owasco but "settled" for just a simple, choice location on the northwest end of Owasco Lake. For many years it was a simple single room, unfinished cabin where they would come down to for weekends and vacations from their home in Auburn. Their only daughter, Carol, and her husband Don (a.k.a. "Gramp") inherited it when they passed and they built a "retirement home" on the property where they stayed for many years until health forced them to a retirement home. After that, we just used it for our family vacations and get togethers. In the past couple of years, we have chosen to rent out the property on VRBO when we are not using it.

Why they chose this property

Spectacular sunrises, shallow, sandy bottomed and safe for young children or seniors! Close to town (Wegmans, Walmart, Walgreens, movie theaters, shopping, etc.). And some of the best and most productive pan fishing in the Finger Lakes Region. When you look up the state record sunfish and bluegill, you will be tempted to take your measuring tape and camera out in the boat with you! One day in the near future, we predict the state record will be from Owasco Lake's northwest end!

What makes this property unique

Having a raised deck with an amazing view across the lake to Emerson Park and down the entire length of the lake to the south -- you can hear concert music from Emerson Park, and see the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, or watch storms come up the lake (many which never seem to get all the way to the end of our lake). Barbecuing outside on the deck in the evening, coffee and muffins in the morning when you wake up, you'll pretty much "live outside on the deck" during your stay! An easy walk up the lake to paddleboard rentals make trying this for the first time inexpensive and convenient. The antique car show at Emerson Park is a short walk up the street from our lake house!
