About this property

Beautiful Tree House Cottage

On a private lot our fully furnished 3 bedroom home is located on the South Shore of Crystal Lake. We are situated in a quiet area where bird watching and wildlife are at a premium. It comfortably sleeps 8 people and has 2 full baths, a loft and spacious living areas on the upper and lower floors with a fully equipped kitchen. It is beautifully finished in knotty pine trim, with all the modern conveniences. The upstairs living area was recently remodeled with new flooring throughout and the kitchen area has new granite counters and all new stainless steel appliances. You can enjoy the beautiful 175' public beach one mile down the road and take advantage of its boat launch (Jet skis welcome!), shaded picnic area, swings for the kids, and restrooms. Gorgeous Lake Michigan beaches at Frankfort, Beulah and Elberta are less than 10 minutes away. M-22 is close by and offers access to Pointe Betsie Lighthouse, Empire, Glenn Arbor, Leland and Sleeping Bear Dunes. There are 7-8 golf courses in the area as well as hiking and biking on the Betsie Valley Trail in addition to tubing and canoeing down the Platte River. Drive the beautiful M22 for wine tasting and shopping. All in all we are in a great location for a myriad of activities and sights!

Wonderful Treehouse
Andi, our host, couldn't have been nicer. She lives on an adjacent property and was always available for the least issue. We were four adults and two teenagers and everyone had their space. The older teenager especially loved the loft! Frankfurt has a lovely beach and is near several beautiful areas, including Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Loved the area.

Treehouse retreat
The Treehouse was perfect for our trip to Michigan. It is situated in a quiet location but is close to the many sites and events in the area There was four of us and everyone had plenty of room and space to be together or to spend some time alone. The house is well equipped and there is a lovely deck in the back where we could eat , drink coffee or just relax. The owner was very attentive to our needs. We would recommend the Treehouse to anyone traveling in the area.

Peaceful, quiet, convenient, and cozy!
We loved our stay at The Treehouse. Andi was so kind and accommodating. She lives on the property but only ever saw her if she happened to be out walking her cute puppy. There was plenty of space for everyone. We loved how close it was to everything. Our 4 year old loved the bunk beds and loft especially. We will always keep this spot in mind for future trips!

A great stay with a great week
A very clean and well-maintained property. It was quiet and comfortable with a more modern feel. The property owners were very kind. They do live nearby; however, I would like to emphasize that the property is very private. You can't see neighboring homes from any of the windows or deck. To get to the property, the drive is up a steep hill from the lake. This was an awesome morning walk to and from the lake every morning (to South Shore Drive). The public beach is barely three minutes away which worked out great. Frankfort was ~6 minutes away, Point Betsie Lighthouse was ~9 minutes away, Empire Beach ~30 minutes with Sleeping Bear about 35-40 minutes away. As a 20+ year annual Crystal Lake visiting family, this was a top-notch experience at a very nice property.

Quiet cabin in the woods nearby beautiful Crystal lake
Quiet and comfortable home great for our family get together with 3 generations. Very close to the lake and a mile from the public beach and boat launch. The owners are super nice and good to work with and the cabin has lots of indoor and outdoor spaces to hang out and relax. Lots of things to do in the area make this a great choice for an extended family to gather.

This place has it all
We all loved the location and the quietness of the property. Lots of golf and shoreline nearby. Pets allowed was a big item in our list. So much to do and the host was top notch. If you needed a sandwich bag or shampoo it was there and you did not have to run all over. They had a beautiful windows that looked out into the woods. We did not notice right away but realized a power washer on the outside of the windows to remove bugs and spider webs would have been great. The house was very comfortable and clean overall and we would come back for sure. The BBQ was gassed up and clean and ready to use. Thanks for the great trip and a wonderful experience.

Beautiful forest cabin
We loved our stay at Andi and Jerry's beautiful cabin in the woods. It was very comfortable and very quiet! We had plenty of space to spread out. We loved our walks along Crystal Lake with our dogs and Lake Michigan was only a few minutes away. The weather was cool but we had plenty of fun things to do while we were there! Andi and Jerry were excellent hosts!

Awesome trip to Lake Michigan
We really had an awesome vacation staying here. The house was actually larger than we expected. Three bedrooms and a loft. There were plenty of amenities and a well stocked kitchen. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck in the evening. The area is very pretty and very close to the beautiful Crystal Lake. It was also close to Lake Michigan and Sleeping Bear Dunes. We fell in love with Frankfort and the Lake Michigan beach there. Lots of things to do in the area. The hosts were very friendly and extremely helpful with providing different recommendations.

Treehouse in the woods
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Andi and Jerry's well-provisioned FishLips cottage in the trees. Very private and quiet setting with convenient access to Crystal Lake, Frankfort, and Lake Michigan less than ten minutes by car. Only suggestions would be to include photos on the VRBO page for the lower living area (which was a very pleasant place to spend time on hot days) in addition to the downstairs bedroom photo. Also, we had a couple of cold nights and the gas line was not hooked up to the furnace, so no heat was available. Andi provided extra warm blankets but we would have preferred heating. Finally, more towels and washcloths would have been greatly appreciated. Thanks for offering this cottage for rent!

It’s more of a Coach house than a stand alone experience.
It’s behind the main cabin with no view. Its in the woods sure enough but you share a lot with the owners. I should have known better because photos are not quite on the level . Close to lake but lake has swimmers itch . Frankfort close by. Sleeping Bear dunes. Price too high for what you get.

Well located, beautiful area.
The owner went to a lot of trouble to make sure we had good information about the house and excellent tips for exploring the area, including secluded beaches and restaurant information. We did not encounter "swimmers itch" in the water at Crystal Lake even though we swam there almost every day, and believe the problem to be under control. However, we had not anticipated the beauty of Lake Michigan which was a very pleasant surprise. The water was warm enough for swimming as it was late July and we did so every day. The house is located on a hilltop and there was almost always a breeze so no need for air conditioning. It was a quiet, restful home, well situated to accommodate parents, two adult sons and one well behaved dog. The ability to bring the dog was very important and one of the reasons we chose this property. I was grateful the house did not smell like any previous pet visitors! Note that to get to the public beach on Crystal Lake or into Frankfort you do have to drive. Parking was easy once there, and just a few minutes in the car. We had a fun stay!

Gorgeous UP NORTH!
Andi and Jerry, the owners, live next door. They are lovely and quick to respond but don’t interfere or crowd their guests. The cottage is literally in the trees and there isn’t a lake view, but it’s a quick drive or short walk to multiple public beaches on turquoise Crystal Lake. There are multiple hiking opportunities in Sleeping Bear Dunes, river kayaking or floating, and a beautiful Lake Michigan beach in Frankfort just a few miles away. The Treehouse is a perfect location to explore activities to suit everyone. Two definite pluses are that there are few mosquitoes and dogs are allowed. Three generations of our family had a great time and would definitely be thrilled to go again!

We had a good week.
We enjoyed our stay. The kitchen was well equipped for our needs. We had adequate space for the seven of us. The downstairs was somewhat musty, even with the dehumidifier, but the upstairs was very plesant.

Great time , cute house and dog friendly
We enjoyed our time at the tree house. Owners are friendly and are easily reached when there is a need. Wished we had little kids, the tree house room is so cute. We always appreciate having a place where we can bring our dog. Of course the area is beautiful and location is situated between two cute towns. Highly recommend.

Loved being able to have our dog!
We loved being able to bring our Shih Tzu with us as he has always traveled with us and he especially loves hiking in this area. The cottage is quite comfortable and there are lovely breezes that move through the main level, even without the ceiling fans. Fairly well-equipped throughout and a convenient distance from Frankfort as well as nearby points of interest (such as Sleeping Bear Dunes). The public beach on Crystal Lake is a good walk away (I wouldn't want to carry a kayak or canoe that far), but there are so many places on Lake MI within easy driving distance, that anyone who needs a place to kayak/canoe can find it. And Andi was especially kind to mail my husband's boots and sandals back to us after he left them behind!

We had a wonderful vacation at Treetops cottage! It was even bigger than the pictures show and was open with the vaulted ceilings. We slept with the windows open and the breeze was cool and fresh. The home was clean and the large island was great for cooking and extra seating. The house is stocked with fun board games and the bedrooms are quite comfortable. The downstairs has plenty of room if you want separation for different family members or friends. We enjoyed many evening dinners on the porch, which had plenty of seating for everyone. The garage had beach chairs that were great to use outside and at the beach. We liked the secluded feeling of the property and went hiking on the nearby woods, which were beautiful. Andi was extremely helpful in making sure that all of our needs were met and offered lots of suggestions about what was available to do nearby. She was always available, but never intrusive. There were multiple nearby beaches, which were all beautiful!! Grocery shopping, nice restaurants, a bookstore, ice cream shops and shopping are all nearby in Frankfort. Sleeping Bear Dunes is also wonderful with about a 1/2 hr to 45 min drive. Beautiful hiking, beaches, the dunes and lighthouses are there. The towns of Empire and Glen Arbor are the same distance with nice restaurants and shopping. We had a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable vacation at this property!

Fantastic location and wonderful comfort
The Treetops Cottage was as the owners described: perfect location a few minutes from Frankfort for those last-minute groceries, Kilwin's Chocolates, great brewery, wonderful bakery and deli, as well as the public beach at Frankfort. Further up the road is Point Betsie lighthouse, with great viewing for sunsets. A few more miles, and you are at the Platte River, where you can tube, canoe, or kayak to Lk Michigan and then swim where the river meets the lake. In the other direction is the little town of Beulah, fruit farms, an old-fashioned drive-in, and, if you want the city, Traverse City ( we didn't). The road is a bit inclined from the cottage down to Crystal Lake, but we walked it many times with no problem, and explored a tiny bit of the 40 acres of wood mentioned, which were beautiful. The cottage itself is laid out beautifully, with the kitchen open to the living area and very spacious with comfortable furniture. The master bedroom bed is heavenly, and you sleep listening to the wind in the trees ( in a very large bedroom with lots of closet space). The lower level bedroom is great for more guests or family, and downstairs has additional living space! The two bathrooms (our family insists on two!) look recently remodeled and very nice, not like rustic cabins we're used to, with plenty of storage. My only regret is that I never slept in that cute little loft, which I think adults as well as children would love. There were lots of towels and everything we needed. Andi and Jerry were very welcoming and allow a dog, which made our daughter happy. Oh, and go see the alpaca farm on the River Rd.

A true get away!
"FishLips" is beautiful! It had everything we needed. Grill, firepit, space in the garage to store items. The house itself is BEAUTIFUL! So much space! Andi was fantastic and was there to greet us when we arrived. She was able to show us around the house and answer any questions we had. If you are looking to walk or bike directly from this property, be prepared. It was a bit off the beaten path at the top of a rather steep hill...which made it difficult to "bike/walk" anywhere without driving to a starting point. Very quick ride to downtown Frankfort and the amazing beach! Thank you Andi for a very memorable summer vacation.

Wow this really is a house surrounded by trees!
This is a great house with a beautiful location! We arrived the week of 4th of July and one of the owners greeted us(Andi) who was very nice and helpful with things to do in the area. It was pretty well maintained and clean, with a lot more room than picture, so we were pleasantly surprised. There was only one thing my family would have wanted diff. The TV is in the basement and we found ourselves " hanging" more upstairs so it would have been more convenient upstairs for us. But not too much a big deal. The area around was very nice, we had our 3 Yorkies with us and the hills going up and down to the beach were very steep, but a great workout! The beach itself that we were allowed to use was a small area, but very empty all the times we went, so that was great! Bring your bikes, kayaks, whatever its def the place to use them. We had a great time, and I would recommend this house for the price. Well worth it. Thanks again!! :-) The Guzman Family

About the host

Host profile image
Andi is a retired teacher and Jerry is a semi retired building contractor. Jerry designed and built the Tree House using his skills, creativity and ingenuity. We visited the area before we were married and fell in love with Crystal Lake and its environs and built our home 25 years ago.

Why they chose this property

We visited the area before we were married and fell in love with Frankfort. The fact that we are so close to Lake Michigan as well as Sleep Bear Dunes added to our desire to have somewhere to enjoy nature. In addition, the woods that surround our home and the quiet surroundings appealed to us along with the Crystal Lake.

What makes this property unique

The clean air and slower pace makes for a very relaxing getaway.
