Villa Savina - Elegant Family Villa Overlooks Amalfi Coast

This villa, among the finest in the village of Nocelle, is not a typical tourist rental property.
(please scroll down the entire description for full details)
This is a beautifully designed house. Its owners have created comfortable and tasteful surroundings. Filled with light, it's rooms resonate with positive energy. It is elegant and spacious, with high quality material finishes.

The villa is a two-story structure. On the ground floor, there is a large, airy and luminous L-shaped living room/ dining room, sitting alcove, large, professional kitchen and a two-piece bathroom. A winding staircase leads up to the second floor, where are found three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a balcony overlooking the ground-floor terrace and the Mediterranean beyond.

The fully equipped kitchen has a large built-in electric oven, a six-element gas cooktop, double sinks and a full-size fridge/freezer combo. In this kitchen, the owner and her relatives prepare family meals for festive occasions, for as many as 30 people at a time. French doors lead directly from the kitchen onto the terrace. Adjacent to the kitchen, there is a laundry room with laundry sink, washing machine and two large folding clothes-drying racks.

Upstairs, are three bedrooms with three bathrooms. All three bedrooms are equipped with air-conditioning. There is ample closet and storage space.

Each of the bedrooms has French doors opening onto the second floor balcony running the entire width of the house. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed (190cmX150cm) and an ensuite bathroom with hydro-massage tub. One of the additional bedrooms has a full bathroom with tub/shower, while the other has a full bathroom with shower. In addition, each of the 2 additional bedrooms has a queen-sized bed(190cm.X150 cm.) which can be separated into 2 beds with advanced notice.

Directly in front of the house, spanning the entire width of the property is the splendid terrace, consisting of two sections. The large main area, reached through French doors from either the kitchen or the living room offers a comfortable, shaded relaxation area and a central “alfresco” dining area. At the far end of the terrace is a smaller, more secluded area, beneath a fragrant orange tree.
The terrace furnishings include an attractive, cushioned rattan sofa and armchairs in the shaded area under the second floor balcony, as well as an outdoor dining table and 5 chairs. Other features include: Large sun umbrellas, sun-chairs. Magnificent, wide open view of the Mediterranean spread out below, all the way to the horizon. Traditional brick pizza oven.

Guest access:
The entire house and terraces are for the exclusive use of guests.

Other things to note:

The Story of the Villa

Villa Savina was built by Maria Grazia Cinque and her husband Francesco, on land that had been in Maria Grazia's family for generations. Its name derives from a particularly large and robust juniper tree that grew on the approach to the property. According to local legend, a juniper has magical properties, offering protection against the evil eye. Small branches from this tree were tied between the horns of cows when taken out to pasture, in order to protect them from evil spirits.
The site was also the location of the family bread oven where Maria Grazia’s parents, Angela and Giuseppe, would bake bread for their large family, using 100 pounds of flour, and flavouring the bread with the seeds of the wild fennel that grows on the mountain side. The bread was dried after baking and kept for consumption for many weeks, sometimes months. For centuries, each family in the village had a huge bread oven of this kind, since the village was completely isolated from the outside world, being connected by road to Positano only in 2002.

Francesco's father, Giovanni, had emigrated to America in the 1920s. There he opened a store in the Bronx, selling fruit and vegetables. He was later joined by his 2 Sons, Francesco and Antonio, and all three of them continued to work in America for many years. At a certain point, they returned to Positano, where they purchased an18th-century villa and turned it into what is now one of the town's principal hotels.

In the years following Maria Grazia's and Francesco's marriage, they realized a dream by building their family home in the village of Nocelle, perched on the mountainside over the sea above Positano. This home is Villa Savina.

Beautiful view
The view is beautiful. Very quiet. Valentina is so responsive. She also helped us set up a taxi to and from villa for arrival and departure of stay. She even made us a delicious Lemon cake which we ate up! We traveled with 3 kids (11, 8, 6). It was a lot of walking, but they did great! Things to Note: This villa is very far away from things. It is a long walk down to get to Positano. Even when you get down the long steps you still have to hike to get to Positano (almost 2 miles). There is a bus but we did not take it. The Naples Train Station is 1 and 1/2 hours away. There are only 2 places to eat in Nocelle. You will need a porter to take your luggage from drop off point (parking lot) to Villa. Valentia arranged!

Wonderful!
Villa Savina was fantastic! Valentina was wonderful! The house was sparkling clean when we arrived to a lovely welcome gift of champagne and lemon cake. The house has all the major amenities and small details needed for a comfortable stay. Towels and beach towels are provided in every room. Fresh soaps and other necessities are nicely presented like in a nice hotel. The views and ground are stunning!! It is a very relaxing place to arrive home to after a hot and busy day on the amalfi coast. As mentioned in the listing and other reviews, there is about a 6-7 minute walk to the house from the closest place a car can go. There are a decent number of stairs, but it turns out not to be as many as it seems the first time you walk it. There are a couple of very nice restaurants along that walk, and a small convenience store as well. It’s not for a full grocery shopping at all. Transportation down to positano is a bit tough. The bus is very hot and crowded, but doable if you need to. We did not have any trouble with the stairs or issues with bus sickness, so we would definitely stay here again! Thanks Valentina for all of your help arranging transportation, porters, and tours for us!

Best villa ever
Extremely impressed with my stay. The post was accurate on all descriptions. The views were breathtaking. You do have to walk quite some way to get to the villa but we didn’t mind it at all. Valentina provided us with a porter to carry our bags for 15€ each which was a big help. The villa was very clean and Valentina went above and beyond with her communication. She was prompt and even booked us a car service to pick us up in Salerno and take us to positano. We arrived to a bottle of champagne and a lemon cake which was delicious. The beds were very comfortable the AC worked great and there were 3.5 bathrooms all very clean. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this stay. Also it’s right by the path of the gods. Great hike to take. Thank you for everything this villa was great.

Villa Savina above Positano in Nocelle is quaint and dreamy!
First, the property photos are absolutely accurate; the views are even better in person. Second, I cannot say enough good things about our hostess Valentina. The ultimate concierge, she communicated promptly and frequently from January through our stay in May with patient answers to our many questions. The dinners, private car services, porter for luggage, excursions/tours, and beach reservations were all phenomenal. The Villa itself is comfortable and well appointed. We made breakfast in the ample kitchen, using ingredients purchased at the market in Nocelle (cash only) which has the basics. As for transportation between Nocelle and Positano, if you are in excellent shape, you can take 1,800 steps down within 45 minutes. Walking back up is a bigger commitment, and most prefer to take the bus or taxi. The bus is 2 euros each way, but getting a spot, even standing room, requires arriving the bus stop early; the trip is 25 minutes. A taxi is 60 euros each way. Note that even with transportation addressed, you will still need to walk about 100 steps between bus stop and villa, walk various declines/inclines, as Nocelle is built into the side of a mountain. Walking, bus, taxi… we employed all 3, and stayed in great shape while enjoying the culinary indulgences of Amalfi Coast! Bottom line, the peace and beauty away from crowds is well worth addressing transportation. For us, getting off the beaten path for a truly authentic and unique experience at Villa Savina was perfect!

Serenity Villa
This property was outstanding. It is out of the way from crowds and sits above Positano village on a very winding road. You do not want to drive your own car as there is not a lot of parking and the road is very narrow. The host Valentina was awesome at arranging for a car service to get us where we needed to go. You can expect approximately a 50.00 cab ride charge down into Positano. There is a bus which we opted to not ride into town. A lot of steps (160) from drop off to the villa but they do arrange a Porter to help with bags. I would not recommend families with small children.

A Beautiful Experience
We can’t use enough superlatives for our stay in Villa Savina. The villa was beautiful and clean and was exactly as advertised. The views were absolutely breathtaking. Literally steps away from the Path of the Gods and the steps to Positano, but still quiet, secluded, and peaceful. Valentina was an amazing host, arranging out transport, a day outing, and a cooking lesson for us. Our transport driver was so personable and a real professional. And the Italian cooking lesson was so much fun! We would come back in a heartbeat. Grazie mille!

Great stay
It's a lovely location, high above Positano. Only way to get down to the coast is by bus. Being seniors, we first had some trepidation about the distance from the action in the towns below (would have been a difficult trek down to Positano) but soon realized that it was a godsend to be away from the maddening crowds. The path of the Gods trail right next door is a godsend and a beautiful trek. Using the bus going down and up was fine and not a real headache once you got used to the timing. The villa itself is spacious and lovely views but no real restautrants within walking distance except one.

Magnifico!!
Valentina is the perfect host! The villa is so lovely and the Lemon Cake and wine waiting for us was delicious. Our trip to Capri got canceled due to weather and Valentina arranged a private cooking class for us at the villa. Definitely, one of the best experiences of our trip. The food was delicious and all organic. We even made pasta!! The Path of the Gods is right above the villa and what an amazing and beautiful hike! Valentina was so available and made us feel so welcome! We want to come back and stay for months!!

You can’t ask for better views!!!
My first recommendation is to book the porters!! From there it is a bit of a walk to the villa, but the views and the outstanding service make it well worth it!! Villa was spotless and the lemon cake was perfect with coffee in the morning :) If you are planning any excursions, definitely connect with Valentina to help you. She has all the connections and the prices are much better than if you tried to do it yourself. This means any transfers to Sorrento and/or Positano, book ahead with Valentina. If you know Positano, it’s not easy to get cabs and because of recent cab strikes, book any and all transfers ahead of time. Once you are there, you won’t want to leave. Best service and incredible views. Thank you again Valentina!!

Amazing property for a less touristy trip
We started our search looking for a place in downtown Positano when we stumbled on this gem right next door in Nocelle. We LOVED it! I will hit on the items that make this unique and you can decide if it’s for you: Location: Nocelle is a 15 minute taxi or bus ride to downtown Positano. It’s up the hill and “over Positano”. The views are more sweeping and amazing than the pictures convey. Its a bit remote which we loved after drowning in the crowds of Rome, Capri, and yes Positano too. The market and restaurants met all of our needs. There are steps to navigate from the village parking lot to the property but it’s easily doable (if you plan to walk the Spanish steps in Rome, you can handle these steps too). Property: amazing - beautiful citrus and olive trees on the property. Great views of the Mediterranean and the Path of the Gods which has a trail head at the village. It was clean, stocked with everything we needed including extra towels which we took with us to Capri. We had a family of five and this property was more than spacious enough, including balconies outside the bedrooms to take in the views. Host: Valentina was great and very responsive. Proactively recommending activities and arranging transportation for us. She really took any stress out of the whole process. Community: This sets the property apart. Nocelle is a village with about 150 people predominantly from two old family trees. Neighbors are tending gardens, the local church bells ring in the afternoon, the lady working the market shared some freshly made buffalo mozzarella with us before breaking off to talk with a friend walking by. No souvenir shops. No one hassling you to eat at their restaurant. The whole place was refreshingly not filled with the trappings of tourism that make up Positano. Positano is still great and we enjoyed visiting it, but it was nice to come back to a more peaceful setting at the end of the day. Restaurants: there are two official restaurants - one that is less formal and priced around 15 euros/plate. The food was delicious. The second is more elaborate but we didn’t eat there so I can’t comment on it. But a third option was the best dining experience of our whole trip - Mama Luisa’s. A family run restaurant hosted on their house’s rooftop patio at the top of the village. Eating family recipes cooked with produce grown on their land while drinking homemade wine - all with amazing stories shared by the host. Highly recommend it!

Place of the Gods
This is one of the finest rentals we've ever had the pleasure to stay at. Every aspect of Villa Savina is top notch and what you'd expect in a place that costs this much to rent. We were two couples and had all kinds of space inside and out. Incredible views, spacious rooms with comfortable beds, clean and modern bathrooms and a very functional kitchen make this place perfect for a week stay in Nocelle. The town sits at one of the entry points to what's known as the 'Path of the Gods.' To be able to walk out your door and be on the path early in the morning before the crowds converge was great. There are some very good eating choices in town and the bus or taxi to/from Positano allows further options. There is also a very well stocked neighborhood market in the village that gives one the opportunity to conveniently eat in. The property manager is Valentina and she was fantastic to work with from the very start of our booking experience. She can arrange ride transfers to/from Naples (or Rome) as well as a number of touring experiences on the Amalfi Coast. She really made our stay here hassle free and is an excellent communicator aside from being a very kind person. We've had several other week stays in Positano and Praiano and enjoyed them all. But staying in Nocelle at Villa Savina was the best and I can't recommend it enough.

Home in the Sky
The property was absolutely beautiful and offered everything one would want for an extended stay. The location was breathtaking.....though difficult to reach. Parking was tricky and the drive to get to the lot....not for the faint hearted. Would not recommend staying here if you have problems with hiking or stairs...as there are many up and down to be able to reach the property. I would recommend also that the owner (as she lives just above the property) try not to clean the patios at 6:00 am every day (dragging the patio furniture around and waking the sleeping clients). Valentina was a peach and catered very well to our needs....very nice person. It was a treat also to arrive with a lemon cake waiting for us in the dining room. Overall......beautiful property and excellent service.

Beautiful Views and Villa
The villa and the town of Nocelle are exquisite. Be prepared however for lots of stairs and walking. The bus is the only practical method of getting to and from the town but it runs frequently enough. The benefit of being the first stop is that you can actually get on it since it tended to fill up very quickly and some stops on the ride down get skipped during peak morning hours. Giovanni was very nice and helpful and easy to get a hold of. The villa itself had great amenities and a fantastic outside seating area. Highly recommend staying up here to get out of the center of Positano and really enjoy some peace and quite.

Villa Savina was bellisimo!!
The views were breathtaking! The villa was immaculate and had all the amenities we needed from beach towels to coffee maker. Valentina responded immediately to our texts and was very hospitable. My family of 6 was very comfortable in the spacious villa. The Sita ran on schedule to get you down to beach although it was crowded. We walked down the almost 2,000 steps once which was fun . The path of Gods was a great hike. There are 2 restaurants you can walk to that were excellent. This stay was the highlight of our 2 week visit. Thank you for the lemon cake!

Fantastic stay in an amazing village
We loved our time at the Villa Savina. It is a bit isolated, but that was great for us. And the location, in the village of Nocelle surrounded by cliffs over the ocean, is both amazing and improbable. We can't wait to visit again and stay longer next time.
