About this property

Northern Serenity at the rustic White Stag Lodge

Unplug, relax and refresh with family and friends in this authentic Northern Michigan cabin in the heart of the mitten.

The adventure begins as you travel through pine, oak and birch forests, down 6 miles of back woods roads. Overlooking a small lake, White Stag Lodge is located on 8+ acres - bordered by state forest with close access to miles and miles of well groomed trails for hiking, ATV's and Snowmobiles! The clear lake contains largemouth bass and bluegill, perfect for fishing. We have a fishing row boat, a couple kayaks, two tubes and a moveable swim platform for guest use.

On property you can hike to different areas around the lake and even take along a picnic to relax at Firefly Point under the large shaded pines overlooking the waters edge. Or take the trail along the state forest side to Frog Hollow to look for our resident beaver home and the frogs that come out to sing.

Our location makes it easy for day trips to all that northern Michigan has to offer. We are less than an hour to Gaylord and Alpena. We are close to canoeing and tubing facilities on the Ausable River out of Mio and golfing at the beautiful Garland Resort. A trip to the small town of Lewiston includes grocery store, coffee house, gift store, antique shop, ice cream and delicious dining. We are also close to Amish farm country.

Summer rentals are 6 nights with check in on Friday check out Thurs. Maximum 12 guests including children.

Family Christmas weekend
The property is stunning. The ambiance was very warm and inviting. We had a group of 9 and there was plenty of room for all of us. We went ice fishing, pheasant hunting, celebrated Christmas, put puzzles together and just spent quality time as a family. The only drawback was the upstairs bathroom was out of service. Would definitely go back again.

Highly Recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We had the max number of guests (12), 8 adults, 4 children and had plenty of room. We used everything: hot tub, dock, kayaks, rowboat, fire ring, grill, lower & upper deck, gazebo, corn hole, darts, ping pong, sauna .... House was clean upon arrival and well equipped. Owners were very accommodatiing and friendly! My word for the week was PEACEFUL. The property is remote, quiet and beautiful. My son-in-law, grandson & I were the early risers and sat on the deck each morning at "Breakfast Club" with coffee. By the end of the week everyone joined us! Beautiful home & property!

Peaceful off the grid spot
Three generations of our family met at the lodge, and it was a wonderful week for everyone. The kids (3, 5, and 7) and their parents spent every day rotating between swimming in the lake, fishing off the dock, and lounging in the hot tub. Grandpa with mobility struggles was happy to sit on the balcony and watch the kids have so much fun. The kitchen was extremely well equipped with everything any cook could want. We loved how secluded the location was, our own little paradise for six days. Cannot recommend enough. Only caveat is that the lodge is really off the grid. I have T-Mobile and got no connection. A daughter and son-in-law both have Verizon and one could receive and make phone calls while the other could not. If you are okay with, or even seeking to have, some time with no outside communication, this is the place. It really is lovely. The owners are quick to respond too. We loved it and hope to have the opportunity to return.

Relaxing
The home was exactly what we were looking for. It is remote and distant from our hectic lives. The private lake was terrific to look at and just unwind. The home offers everything you could ask for for activities and then some. If you are looking to get away and relaxation is on your list this is the place. This was the first vacation we were not ready to leave and get back home.

Incredible Home with Incredible Amenities!
WOW is not even appropriate for this amazing home on a private lake that 12 of us enjoyed for a week. You want privacy? You get it here! A beautiful view every morning, no street noise, just peace and quite except for the laughter of our family as we took advantage of disconnecting from cell phones and internet and spent quality, uninterrupted by work life, time together! We kayaked, fished, hiked, had s’mores over the fire, played board games we had not played in years and just enjoyed each other’s company.. Seeing our kids and their cousins, all in their 20’s, with fishing poles, , kayak paddles and even ping pong paddles in their hands instead of cell phones was priceless. We had everything we needed, I really could not think of anything more that they could have provided. Incredible hosts, an incredibly spacious beautiful log home, in a very secluded part of the woods! Pure Michigan for sure. We are already looking at dates for next year! Thanks so much from our entire family!

Absolutely amazing.
This property is awesome. It is VERY remote but you can be almost anywhere within 1.5 hours to site see etc. But you may not want to leave. This is such a serene peaceful home. Our grandkids over the water, raft, kayaks and fishing boat. They said it was their favorite vacation yet. Our father in law loved the deck he could watch the great grandkids and loved the gazebo to play euchre bug free. Turtles and fish were a plus.

Great place to stay!!!!
This place was awesome. The owners are extremely nice and very helpful. They made our stay so easy. We had 14 people stay at the house and there was more than enough room and beds for everyone. The view of the lake is beautiful!!! I highly recommend this rental if you are looking for a northern Michigan getaway.

Amazing retreat!
Don't even really know where to begin with how much we loved this home! We spent a long weekend here with some very dear friends of ours. Our party included 4 adults and 7 kids, ages 7-16. It provided the PERFECT amount of bedrooms and beds for our 2 families, giving everyone the privacy and space they needed for the whole weekend. It was great because there are 2 "master suite" type rooms with attached bathrooms, so with 2 couples there, neither felt a sacrifice. The purpose of our trip was to unplug and get away from all the distractions of life and take some time to really refocus on the things that are most important to our families. This location provided everything we needed to do that! It is remote (we never saw a soul the entire time we were there with the exception of a few snow mobiles passing on a nearby trail once or twice). It is serene. We can only imagine its beauty and opportunity for fun in the summer - we were there in January, there was a bout 7-8 inches of snow on the ground and the lake was frozen over. We spent time ice skating on the rink (it was a little rough, but with lake skating that is to be expected), snow shoeing through the acres of woods surrounding the property and sledding down a great hill only 5 min. walking distance from the house (hill was perfect size for all of us - steep and long enough to get going nice and fast, but not so terrible to hike back up). Then when we were done with our winter activity, we all thawed out in the hot tub! That was a favorite among everyone in the group! The huge windows in the family room create awesome lighting in the house - the kitchen table even sat us all together for meals! Kitchen is well equipped with all cookware and utensils you need. All the necessities of home are right here! Best of all, the owners were fab to work with - they were so sweet, welcoming us at our arrival, giving us a tour of their home and offering hints and tips for different things throughout the house. It really helped us feel warm and welcome and gave the start of our trip a wonderful feeling. We all agreed we would like to make this an annual trip for our families, as long as they continue to rent, we will most definitely return! Any season, there will be PLENTY to do here.....trails for hiking, the lake.....its just perfect....Thank you so much for allowing us to stay!

My husband and I grew up in the Detroit area, and lived in several places - Chicago, Virginia and most recently Washington DC. We are adventurous travelers and enjoy new cultures and destinations but have our hearts in Michigan.

Why they chose this property

We have family that settled in Northern Michigan in the 1800s, our families are part of the history of the area - farmers, lumbermen, sheriffs and shop owners We wanted to come back to enjoy the quiet beauty of Northern Michigan. Our cabin is constructed with huge red pine logs giving it a rustic authentic cozy feel - magical.

What makes this property unique

We have 8 acres adjacent to state land and a small spring fed lake where we are the only house on the lake. My husband and I fell in love with the remote wooded area, a place to get away from the hustle and bustle and wander in the woods to enjoy nature. There is a sense of renewal and home. We were hooked from the first day we looked at the property.
