This little cottage was fabulous! The interior was comfortable and cute. There was a little play area upstairs. The beds were cozy, but not quite long enough if you're over 5'10".
I Loved the porch!
We'll definitely return if we get the chance.
This was our 2nd time staying at The Cottage in the Woods, and it was just as nice as the first time. Staying in Mt. Gretna is magical, and we hope to do it again soon.
I loved relaxing on the large porch in the mornings with a cup of coffee. The cottage was exactly as advertised. My only complaints were that we were expected to bring our own sheets, which seemed strange to me, and there was no hand soap in the upstairs bathroom. Otherwise it was a great stay and I would definitely stay again.
The cabin is quaint and quiet. Furnishings are period correct for a 1920's cabin....very cool, not always very comfortable. This would normally go largely unnoticed by us, but 5 of our 10 day stay was rain. There is a bit of a climb to get here, not the best choice for anyone with limitations. The porch is fabulous and we thoroughly enjoyed sitting out to read, watch the birds and smell the woods. Several good restaurants in the area and every person we encountered in Mt. Gretna was super friendly.
We absolutely adored staying at this adorable cottage. We were looking for an authentic Gretna experience and that’s exactly what we got. From the carefully curated antiques to the peaceful perfection of the wraparound porch, my partner and I got the rest, relaxation, and regeneration we sought out.
Our family was looking for a weekend get-a-way as a substitute for our vacation bc of COVID. This place was just the ticket. A great location near a bike path/lake and loved spending time on the wrap-around deck. Thank you, William!
Absolutely loved this place! Was on a work/mini vacation and everything was fantastic. Wifi was great, the cottage was whimsical, clean, and comfortable. Hosts were super responsive (no issues, just had questions about a few things.) Beds comfortable, porch was awesome. Loved it.
Loved the colorful, funky kitchen and interesting collection of vintage furniture and decor. The wooded surroundings were beautiful, felt like we were in a treehouse when we sat on the porch. The narrow stairs were difficult for an elderly relative to navigate, but since they we’re staying elsewhere it wasn’t a problem.
Charming historical home, appointed with period decor
Continually found treasures of a by gone era that added to the fun. Well stocked kitchen. Lovely walk through woods behind house. Eatery in walking distance, groceries 15 minutes away. Outdoor theater in walking distance. Nearby lake that we did not visit. Porch area quite large, well lit, breezy. Quiet neighborhood except for theater group practice. Host readily accessible and helpful. Would highly recommend to families or couples. I would worry about small children breaking antiques
The cottage is in a very picturesque community. It's very quiet and the trees and rhododendrons make it feel like you're in a tree house. The location is really good if you're going into Hershey, Harrisburg or Lancaster county.. The cottage had many antiques and was decorated wonderfully. The beds were a bit small and the couch a bit thin, but allowances can be given for the décor. Overall, I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
This place was fantastic! The cottage was the perfect size for a friend and I to escape the madness going on in the world right now. The porch has amazing views and listening to the tree frogs at night was so serene. I loved everything about this place! There is no parking now because the spot is now considered a handicap spot, but parking on the street was only a few yards away and the owner provided parking passes, so this did not disrupt our visit at all. If you want a place to relax, this is the perfect spot!!!
The home is lovely. It was a good place for me to work. The porch is perfect for study.
The only difficulty was the mildew and mold smell. I needed to leave early because I got a sinus infection which was worsening.

Perfect cottage for a family of 3-4.
This cottage fit our family of four perfectly. One child slept on the sleeping porch. The shabby chic decor, the comfortable beds, and stocked kitchen made our stay lovely. The porch is large and fit 14 of our family for a potluck dinner. It would be nice to have more light over the kitchen table. There is a chandelier but no way to turn it on. The rug on the 2nd floor is worn and although the kitchen and refrigerator were clean, the house was a bit dusty.

Repairs/opinion
May want to get cobwebs. My wife feel down the wood steps outside, may want to put no skid risers on. Very bruised but not broken. Dont care for naked pictures.
What a charming place!!!!! The gas fireplace added so much coziness. I would say "perfect" but for a few considerations. We arrived after dark and had a hard time finding the ccorrect cottage. better signage and lights would have been so helpful. We are both older, I with severe osteoporosis and a fall could be very bad. The inside steps are steep and scary for someone like me. I felt afraid I'd fall down the steps on my way to the bathrooom at night. We mistakenly parked in our neighbors drive, again, no signage we saw at night. For younger, more agile folks, it would be a dream house, the bed very comfortable, so many charming aspects. the street light outside of the sitting room/tv room did require being blocked out by the couch pillows. there was a fair amount of noise from our neighbors, which interrupted a little the love I have of just sitting in the quiet of the porch. my partner would have been more comfortable with a better quality of toilet paper and a fan in the bathroom. All this said, it was still a wonderful delightful stay. . thank you
The cottage was very colorful and filled with antiques and vintage items. Fiestaware in the kitchen and just tons of color. Lots to look at everywhere you looked. Everything you could possibly need in the kitchen.
Did not seem to be cleaned well when we arrived (rugs were dirty, etc). Furniture in living room was old (antique/vintage) but not comfortable at all for sitting. Bed mattress was comfortable thankfully.
One note - owners have a great collection of artwork but much of it included nude women. Sharing in case that would bother someone.
Fabulous porch. Excellent location. Perfect wifi connection.
We had a great weekend. The home is beautiful and is in a great location. The breakfast place you can walk to was really convenient and delicious.

About the host
Hosted by William and Marianne Roberts
My wife and I grew up coming to The Mount Gretna Lake in the summer time. My uncle owned a summer home which I would visit and my Grand Parents always wanted a summer home here but never made it happen. When the opportunity to buy our cottage presented itself we moved on it and have never regretted our decision.
Why they chose this property
Very Cute romantic cottage in the woods. Very close to all the activity in Mount Gretna. Theater-Playhouse, Lake, Jigger Shop, Hideaway, Gift Shop, Playground Basketball Court
What makes this property unique
Cottage sits high above the street and reminds you of a very nice tree house. Cottage was built in the 1890s and still holds that original romantic charm.
