A little History of the Property:
There are five historic districts in Santa Fe. This home at 512 Agua Fría is part of the Guadalupe Historic area, which began as a collection of farms on the outside of the city. As the farms were divided up among family, odd shaped lots emerged. This home, originally built in 1900, is considered traditional Spanish-Pueblo design and is designated as historically contributing to the city of Santa Fe.
The adobe home had fallen into a terrible disrepair by the early 2000’s. The walls, rafters and main fireplace remained, but the roof had collapsed, and doors and windows were in ruins. Fortunately, a local couple (George and Grace) decided to purchase the house and take on the challenge of restoring this structure while also upgrading it for modern conveniences.
Partnering with renowned abode architect Bruce Davis, they also collaborated with esteemed Tent Rock builders and local craftsmen, some of whom came out of retirement to work on this project. The home’s street side windows and doors were rebuilt by hand to duplicate the original elements. Plumbing, electrical, roof and stucco were all replaced. Custom cabinetry by Baglione Woodworks grace the casa and casita. Herringbone brick floors with radiant floor heat and Andersen windows were selected for maximum comfort.
Through much work, dedication and commitment to perfecting the blend of old and new, the remodeling of the house and native plant landscape was completed in 2019.
Now this magical home has been further transformed for visitors to enjoy. Decorated in a mixture of vintage and New Mexican furnishings, and with an array of original fine art on every wall, Canto Cielo is both a peaceful retreat and an idyllic location from which to enjoy the charms of Santa Fe.
