About this property

Beautiful, Farm-near-the-Sea Summer House, Family Friendly

Location: Westport Point, South coast of Massachusetts, USA (20 minutes to Fall River, MA & 30 minutes to Providence, RI, one hour from Boston)
Accommodations: 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6-8)
If you want more room than a simple cottage provides - this is the place! This peaceful, 2000 square foot, three bedroom summer house with a spacious window seat and outdoor front porch over looking expansive hay fields sleeps up to seven people on 2 queen beds, 1 double bed, and 1 twin bed. It is located just a 5 min drive from Horseneck State Beach (public beach access, which stretches 5 miles along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean).

The house features a large 800 square foot living area with multiple seating areas for reading, playing games and visiting. In addition to the one full bathroom, there is an outdoor shower for use after a wonderful day at the beach. There is also a sunny, stone-walled garden for outdoor meals, reading, and relaxing. This great family house is the perfect respite from your busy world. It is available for rent for one(1) week, or for as many weeks as you are interested in throughout the summer season. Pets are not allowed and smoking is not permitted.

Our family most enjoyed starting the day with blueberry pancakes (from the local farm stand) on the front porch. Then we pack up for the beach - the energetic among us decide to jog there. We enjoy Horseneck Beach, rated best beach in New England, kids playing the surf, adults beach combing down to the harbor mouth. Snack bar for hot dogs or ice cream. Come home to wash off sand and salt in the outdoor shower before heading up the country road to Woods Creamery, the best ice cream around (Moose Tracks, our favorite!). Come back to the house, dinner on the porch, fresh fish caught that day, and watch the sunset over the field with the swallows swooping overhead. If it is Saturday night, the family heads down toward the Point for the community square dance, a tradition since the 1930's.

Westport Point is known for its local charm. No franchises are allowed in the region, but the area has many quaint shops and restaurants, and independent businesses support a local agricultural and beach community. Stop by the Westport River Winery for a tour, pick up fresh lobsters at the local fish store for dinner, go shelling on the beach, enjoy antiquing, or just relax on the porch of the house and enjoy the great summers for which Westport is known.

Fall River, Massachusetts is 20 minutes away, and is the home of hundreds of outlet stores, Battleship Cove and a working antique carousel. Newport, Rhode Island is 35 minutes by car. For a wonderful excursion, treat yourself to a day in Boston which is 60 miles north, or to Providence, Rhode Island which is 30 miles Northwest of Westport.

New Bedford is 25 minutes east. New Bedford hosts a waterfront area, a whaling museum and regular daytrip boats to take pedestrians or cyclists to Martha's Vineyard.

Westport is 60 miles from Boston, Massachusetts’s Logan Airport and 35 miles from T.F. Green Airport in Providence, Rhode Island. There is easy access to Westport from Connecticut, New York and other east coast areas.

Great old Summer Cottage
This was our second time staying at Mary’s Place, and we enjoyed it once again. Dinners on the large back porch and gaming at the dining table were highlights. There was lots of room for either activities or just getting a quiet place away from the action. Horseneck State Beach is a 5 minute drive away and I have a lifetime senior pass, so it was quick and easy to get out beaching. The deer visited the back yard every morning and evening. Great food at The Bayside, The Back Eddy, Wood’s Ice Cream, and breakfast at The Barn in Adamsville. Altogether a fun and memorable vacation!

Beautiful property
We had a fun stay at the cottage. The location is great for going to the beaches and down to Westport point. The back porch overlooking the fields was our favorite spot. The view was so peaceful and we saw deer every night. The cottage is very rustic which we like. It didn’t have a tv but it was nice for the kids to unplug from screens for a week. My only suggestion would be to get some more comfortable beds. We ended sleeping on the futon in the living room because it was more comfortable than any of the beds. Overall we loved the cottage! Thanks for sharing!

Super summer stay!
We’ve rented this property before and love it. It’s got a great cabin vibe but with so many comfortable amenities (dishwasher, washer and dryer and WiFi). The property owners are easy to deal with and responsive. It’s in a great location on the main road near the point, but set back enough from the road to feel very private. We spent every day on the back porch in the rockers overlooking deer in the field or eating at the outdoor table. It was awesome!!

quiet country comfort
Rustic, charming house. Property is quiet, with beautiful fields, a comfortable porch and beautiful, historic homes lining the street. An absolutely gorgeous region. Wonderful location in Westport and close to Horseneck Beach, Demarest Lloyd State Park and some great restaurants (Bayside, Back Eddy). More action- playgrounds, restaurants and shops, an easy drive away in Padanaram Village. Would highly recommend for a quiet escape. A special spot.

Rustic retreat
Lovely meadow, porch and outdoor shower. Oven didn’t work which was just as well cuz it needed cleaning. Rangetop vent needs cleaning too. And it’s time to retire the lighter fluid in favor of a charcoal chimney.

Classic New England Family Homeplace
This is a gorgeous, early 20th century farm house with old school ambience. The property is pastoral, breezy, peaceful. The covered porch is deep and inviting. Humming birds at the feeder, butterflies in the meadow, and bunnies in the garden. You get the picture. If you're looking for flat screens and central air this is not your groove. We loved it.

The property manager was very responsive and communicative. The property is well maintained, especially the gardens. This is very old home with an amazing history and lots of charm. If you are looking for relaxing place to rest and relax, away from the city hustle and bustle this is the place for you.

A wonderful spot in Westport
We had a lovely time at this beautiful property, which we used as a home base to participate in the Horseneck Half Marathon. We got lucky with the weather and so got to explore the beautiful surroundings while using this beautiful summer house as an idyllic home base. The light seemed to catch the field behind the house beautiful all times of day and the house was filled with personal charm and family history.

An authentic gem
A wonderful place to pause the fast pace of daily life. We loved our weekend at Mary’s house. Meals on the porch were so peaceful. After the heat of the day, the evening breeze was lovely. The second night we sat and watched a young deer frolic in the back of the yard. The owners were very helpful and ready to help with any issues. We will return!

Charming and peaceful
Such a lovely house! If you like old-fashioned charm, this is a wonderful rental. Lots of space and light, and everything is so cozy. Also a great location - really easy to get to the beach, town, and other area destinations. The kitchen is very well stocked if you want to cook. We loved having coffee on the back porch in the morning and enjoying the view of the meadow. And the wifi was great if you need to be connected. Would definitely rent again!

Wonderful Classic New England Getaway
I stayed at Mary’s House for a Summer vacation with my Family. We were two adults and two teenagers. There was enough room for more people. It is a rustic beautiful 100 year old house but has all the amenities needed for Modern comfort. The kitchen is well appointed and had everything we needed to cook great meals. The porch is large and spacious and there is lots of outdoor land to run around and explore. Ben and Peter were excellent communicators and always available to answer questions. We hope to return to Mary’s house again.

Cabin tranquility
This property is very quiet, rustic, charming and clean. Comfortable outside seating with numerous trees for privacy. The pictures are very accurate. I always need a kitchen when I travel and this cabin was perfect. Ben and brother Peter were very easy to communicate with before and during my stay. Perfect for our stay!

a gem for nature lovers! but bring extra fans!
I wanted a pretty kid-friendly spot in nature with shade and we got it! Perfect to be relax in this beautiful 1920s new england cottage, Surrounded by meadows and gardens and farms - but still a 5 min drive from beach fun at Horseneck. This was our first trip to Westport which was a treat to discover, and your place made it even more special. My one strong suggestion would be to install ceiling fans. (I can see how AC units would be impractical and detract from the rustic feel of the place) But even with the fans provided and cross breeze from windows, we really had to sweat it out for the three 85-90 degree days we got. More and stronger fans at the very least. As much as we adored staying here, I don’t think we could do it again during mid summer without a way to better cool the house.

Lovely property
Great place to stay! Nice place that seems remote and like you're getting away from it all, but really only a 20 min drive to Fall River, so you're still near lots of restaurants and services. Recommended!

Charming Property
This property is filled with old world charm inside and out. Although not updated with lots of modern amenities, it functioned beautifully for our family. We hosted a family gathering there and there was plenty of space for all. The kitchen functioned great for preparing food, and the back porch was perfect for hanging out. The landscaping made a great background for photos of family fun. We look forward to going back and experiencing the landscape in different seasons.. Loved it

Beautiful house with a lovely porch and large outdoor space
We had a wonderful time at this house. The historic character of the house was warm and very spacious for our family, parents and kids. The porch is a lovely place to eat and relax and the yard and grounds provided a great space for our two kids to play. So close to the beach and town, and the owners were very responsive and cared deeply about making sure everything about our stay went smoothly. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat.

Quiet, gentle, soothing, sweet
Mary's house is a lovely place to unplug from the travails of modern life, especially if you are from the Boson area--none of the traffic and crowds of the Cape, but all of the dunes, salt water and salt air. An added bonus is the abundance of green fields and meadows (one of them is directly in view from the delightful porch) outlined and defined by so many stone walls. We were a group of 8 friends, and the property held our gang crowd easily and warmly---we'd go back!

A beautiful, well-tended home in a lovely quiet area
"Mary's House" is a beautiful old home that has been well-kept and well-loved. The long porch and the landscaped garden areas around the house are a pleasure to relax in. The kitchen is spacious and properly equipped to make great meals in. The house is near a road but well shielded so it feels quiet and private. The house is located less than 10 minutes from the commercial center of Westport (groceries, gas, drug store, pizza) and similar distance from a small fishing harbor and from the beautiful Horseneck Beach. Visitors should note that this house has one bathroom, and also note that the downstairs bedroom is only accessible through that bathroom, or through its own door to the outside -- this can be complicated. We had a lovely time at Mary 's House and hope to visit again next year.

Everything we could've asked for in a rental. It slept 4 adults and three kids with room to spare for more. The back porch and large yard were the highlight of the stay.

Great time at Mary's House
The place was great for family gathering: nicely furnished, quiet, beautiful surrounding. The house has a lot of history and we really appreciated that. The things we really enjoyed: - Buy fresh Lobster just down the road at WestPort - Horseneck Beach - Barbecue with good stuff from Lee's market. Peter and Ben provided us all the required guidance to have a great stay.

Idyllic cozy home
We spent the weekend in Westport for the half marathon in September and had a wonderful experience staying in this cozy home. We had 2 families with small children and my mother even came for one night as well, and we all fit cozily in this home. It is an older home with a long family history, but it is very well maintained and comfortable, does not feel outdated. The single bathroom was the only challenge since our younger kids are in the bathroom frequently, but otherwise we loved everything about the house. The kitchen is great for cooking and there is a large assortment of spices and other nice pantry goods that previous renters or family have left for general use. We had our dinner out on the picnic table on the deck, watching the twilight in the fields and it was lovely. We spent a day at Horseneck Beach which is only a few minutes drive away. We also spent time playing in the lovely garden grass area, and the kids enjoyed some toys which are available in the house. The owners are extremely nice and communicated easily by email, made sure we had all the information and answered any questions. Would recommend this home for families, anyone looking for an idyllic getaway - it's fantastic!

Relaxing and Rustic
Having grown up in Westport I normally stay with my family when I return to the area for a visit. I admit it felt a bit strange renting a property in my hometown...but all of that discomfort was washed away by the warmth and livability of Mary's House. This house is the quintessential New England charmer. It is unpretentious, cozy and comfortable. There was plenty of space and privacy and we really enjoyed having our morning coffee on the porch and watching the wild turkeys and deer pass by. I would recommend this rental to the individual looking for a home away from home and a truly New England experience.
