We regret that several negative incidents with guest pets including injuries to farm animals, kids and adults, along with allergy reactions by owners, causes us to no longer accept pets - sorry. There are several pet lodging facilities nearby if recommendations are requested.

It is a large 3500 sq ft guest house with dock and outstanding views of the river. With 5+ bedrooms, 4 baths and sleeping capacity for up to 13. Kitchen-Dining area seats 14. Electric heat WITH A/C.
OTHER LOCAL INFO:
Secluded but only, 1 hr from Portland Airport and 45+ min to historic Astoria Oregon, and Washington beach and coastal towns, for day trips. This is also a favorite Seattle-Portland long weekend escape.

Many sports: boating, sailing, paddle boarding, fishing, hiking and touring. Boat ramp-dock (10 ft).

Business Office Ready
We often rent to subcontractor work crews from Wauna (20 min), Longview (20min), Vancouver (40 min), Portland (60 min). Fiberoptic 120MBS Internet. DirectTV, Netflix, and LASER PRINTER. Retreat here for just quiet view of river, wildlife, sunsets and Mt. St. Helens.
Fully Furnished
The house is fully equipped with all clean linens and hotel type toiletries upon arrival. Daily made service is not provided but available. A full kitchen is provided including many of the condiments you might need. Check our stock of ketchup, mustard, steak and fish seasoning, spices, olive oil and mayo type condiments before bringing your own. People tend to leave what they don't need there for the next group. But the local Safeway grocery is only 10 minutes in Clatskanie and open until 11:00PM. The deck is great for: entertaining with a gas barbecue, toasting the sunsets, or watching the waterfowl and eagles. Life jackets and a few fishing poles are available.

Guest access
Guests have use of the entire house, dock, deck and boathouse. Boat ramp usage is also included. A few water toys are available to to use. Life jackets for adults and children are available and recommended for water sports. Swimming off dock available but water too deep for wading.

There is a nearby host available to handle any issues that may arise during the stay

Neighborhood overview
This is a rare rural-farm neighborhood area on the lower Columbia where the homes are total river front without crossing a road to get to the river. Your dock starts 30 feet from the house front door. Paved roads are available for country biking (but no bike lanes), and you can hike within our 100 acres of foothill timberland providing outstanding views.

Fishing Guidance - Chartering
I have also talked to folks at "Gone Catchin Guide" Service .

Oregon hunting and fishing licenses and limited gear are available 10 minutes away in Clatskanie. Also, Bob's Sports in Longview (30 minutes) is the Largest fishing supply selection in northwest. You can fish the Columbia River with either an Oregon or Washington fishing license. I recommend doing some charter fishing if you don't have your own boat. The charter captains know how to fish them best. Charters are available in Longview, Astoria and a few other locations along the river. Contact me for recommendations.

Off street parking for cars, boat trailers or RV. We have RV power and water available but not sewer hook-ups

Peaceful

Quiet and great view. Huge house and property. Wish it had better kitchen supplies like pots and pans. The view from kitchen is amazing and dinning room is far better than a restaurant so you will want to stay and cook there!

I wouldn't say this property can sleep 10. The pullout sofa was incredibly uncomfortable -- my teen couldn't even sleep on it and kids have young backs! The location on the river was beautiful. We were visiting relatives in town, so it was ideally located.

Get Away

We enjoyed our stay. The kitchen had everything we needed. Beautiful views, and it was fun to watch the freighters. Everyone enjoyed swimming. The area is by the water, so, there are a lot of spiders and webs on the decks. Also, having the owner on the property was helpful at times, however, made for a lack of privacy too.

Overall satisified!

Great getaway from city to cool and calm down - nice view, great river breeze, and kind host. As sitting close to the river, should expect a bit of driving to explore nearby attractions.

Best getaway

We had the most amazing stay. Jim was the best host and made sure we had all we needed. He was extremely helpful and always there to answer any questions. The house was perfect too! We got to fish off our dock and relax in the privacy of our own space. There was plenty of room for my family and everyone enjoyed the area. We are already looking forward to going back soon!

This place was fantastic! Very clean. Location was perfect for us as we wanted somewhere a little private. It's on a dead end road and was very quiet. Owner communication was superb and friendly. Can't wait to come back!

Incredibly Scenic, Well Kept Property

I was looking for a relatively secluded place to gather and simply visit and relax with extended family, including a 4mo old nephew and father in law in his 80s. It was fantastic! The kitchen was large and generously outfitted, the house is comfortable and spacious, and Jim was a great host. He let us borrow his kayak for paddling around on the river, and even shared some produce from a small community garden across the street. And the location is incredibly scenic. I would absolutely recommend it if you’re looking for a quiet getaway.

Father’s Day Special

Having my two sons and three grandsons for a week is a great way to celebrate Father’s Day. Jim and his son couldn’t have done anything more to make the stay anymore pleasant. This wasn’t our first stay and not likely to be our last. And the best of the trip was the youngest grandson landing a shiny chrome steelhead on our last drift for sockeye.

Family holiday gathering

The property is beautiful. So relaxing on the River. Loved all the wildlife we got to enjoy watching. Jim was friendly and willing to make any needs we had happen. We talked about some changes that would help make the house a bit more comfortable and he was anxious to get them done. Would be wonderful to be there in warmer weather.

Columbia River living

Quiet retreat

This home was clean and beautifully decorated in a fish/ duck theme. We loved being right on the river and clatskanie had the services we needed. We found it a great place to use as home base for our day trips (banks-verninia state trail and astoria/ fort Stevens). Nearby beaver falls was worth the short winding drive. The neighborhood itself was very quiet and just what we needed. Home was well stocked but could use some more coffee mugs, bowls, and a kettle in the kitchen. Home was spacious for our family of 7. While Jim was not in town during our stay he was easy to reach via phone and helpful. Boathouse and fishing was a great experience for us but we found the boathouse in very filthy condition from previous renters with rotting food and bait left in there and kitchen knives in the boathouse as well. We didn't catch any fish :( but we don't know what we were doing.

Very nice, clean, well equipped house

We had a great time! Everything worked very well and the house was well stocked with linens, dishes and so forth to make our stay really nice. The owner/host was very easy to deal with and was very generous in offering even more than we asked for, in many ways, such as a free extra night. I highly recommend this house and would return, if the need arises!

Great summer getaway

Spent a summer weekend here to escape the heat in the city. The house is great place to just relax and get away from it all. Beautiful peaceful views. A great place you could definitely call it home away from home.

So What can I say, if your looking for peacefulness and beauty surrounded all over and not to mention you forget about work as well then this is the place for you. My family enjoyed staying here vary much and Hospitality was above my expectations. Mr. Miller went above and beyond and I can’t thank him enough. The house was equipped with everything you may need and great interior and exterior design. The house view from front and backyard was just breathtaking. Great place for family get together and fishing also exploring around and not to mention we were surprised by Mr. Miller with his boat tour that was just amazing. Thank You

A true sportsman paradise

This river front house is perfect. It is located close to town yet far enough to be quite and peaceful. Sitting on the dock fishing was great. The interior decoration is excellent. We was able to get a Sturgeon trip in and caught a few. The river is full of fish. The owner came by and he was help and educational, it was a nice to speak with him. Pre stay he mentioned places to eat and gave very good directions to the house. The pizza place in town was extremely good. The coffee shop is where the tackle shop is. It is well stocked and has frozen baits, the coffee there is pretty good also. For a sportsman it doesn't get any better than this. I recommend staying here and will stay here again if I am back in this part of the country.

better than expected

This was our first time staying at Sportman's Paradise. We hope it won't be our last. The location was beautiful and quiet. The house is much nicer than the photographs show. Everything we needed was supplied and the kitchen had condiments and spices. The beds were comfortable, too. Really nice place. The views were amazing. And Jim Miller was really nice and helpful. About the host

Hosted by Jim Miller

I am a retired engineering professor and We have University affiliations with Michigan, Michigan State, and Stanford. I am also the President of J M Miller Engineering, Inc. in Ann Arbor Michigan, but real love is being on the Columbia at this special, little known location.

Why they chose this property

The property is in a private group of houses and farms owned by myself and my wife's family, all adjacent to one another and all with docks on the river. Our farmland and marshland for waterfowl hunting is on one side of the road, and the river, boating, fishing, and house are on the other. I love being in the heart of salmon fishing on the Columbia, yet not in the middle of a tourist area. My wife and I take joy in offering the nicest of our houses to share with you. Our Cousin Holly lives nearby and will be an amazing hostess to you in our absence, and her husband Mark can fill you in on the local fishing secrets.
