Cozy Oceanfront Home - Secluded Beach, North of Sunset Beach - Near Kawela Bay
Hawaii Tax I.D for both TAT & GET. No. 027-702-8864-01
Our oceanfront home, Kawela Kai, is located on the North Shore of Oahu in between Sunset Beach and the Turtle Bay Resort. The stretch of beach where we are located is beautifully secluded and uncrowded. The beach is protected by a coral reef.
The house is an air conditioned, cozy, two-bedroom, single-family home with it's own yard. It is furnished with a fully-equipped kitchen and all linens. The house has been upgraded and includes; granite counters, soft close cabinets and drawers in the kitchen, stainless steel appliances, crown molding throughout, and plantation shutters. There is one queen and two single beds. The house is not high-end fancy. If you are looking for luxurious accommodations, our house is NOT for you. It is clean, cozy, and cared for lovingly. For your convenience, we offer wireless internet access.
The house has a lovely covered lanai for protection from the sun or if you are a sun lover, there is a nice grassy area between the house and the ocean where you can soak up the sun. During the winter months and early spring, you may have the opportunity to see the humpback whales that migrate from Alaska. If the surf is not too high, you may see the whales breathing and breaching right from the lanai. Other wildlife may be seen from the lanai; such as birds, turtles, rays, Hawaiian monk seals, and the occasional surfer.
There is a washer and dryer available for your use during your stay. As with many oceanfront homes on the North Shore, we are located on the road that goes around the island, so the bedrooms may experience some traffic noise at different times of the day.
The house sits about 18 feet above the beach. Access to the beach is via steps in the sea wall. Good mobility is required for the steps down to the ocean. Other access to the beach from the house is two to three houses down the road by the beach park. Directly in front of the house is a flat rocky/sandstone surface with sandy beach further away to the right and the left of the house. Access to the water directly in front of the house is over a sandstone surface, and a lava/coral shelf.
It is recommended that only those very comfortable in the ocean access the water in front of the house. Experienced ocean swimmers may swim, snorkel, and surf in front of the house during the months from late spring through early fall, but because we are on the North Shore, when the surf is up it is not safe for inexperienced swimmers just about anywhere on the North Shore.
During the winter months, the powerful awesome large surf on the North Shore is tremendously exciting to watch. We are located two miles from Sunset Beach, three miles from Pipeline, and five miles from Waimea Bay. These three beaches are world famous for the large surf and surfing competitions. Even if you do not surf, it is exhilarating to watch!
We are located ten miles from historic Haleiwa town which offers a variety of shops and restaurants. We are about a mile from the championship golf courses at the Turtle Bay Resort.
We do not rent our house out for parties, weddings, or any other type of gatherings. The maximum number of people, including babies and children, allowed is a total of four.
NOTE: Due to the City and County of Honolulu vacation rental ordinance Bill 89 settlement agreement, our property is a legally established dwelling that is rented for periods of 30 consecutive days or more at any one time. Questions or dates unavailable? Click on the "Ask owner a question" button.

About the host
Your host
We love Hawaii. One of us grew up in Hawaii, the other in San Diego. We are retired teachers and now we are Pickleball players! Our cocker spaniel's name is Lei Lei.
Why they chose this property
We love the North Shore and specifically the part where the house is located because it is away from the crowds. We are a couple of miles from Sunset Beach which is exactly what we wanted. From our house or lanai, if we see four or five people walk by on the beach, that is a very crowded day! We chose this property because it is directly oceanfront. Nothing blocks our view. We like that our house is not connected to any other dwelling and we that we have our own yard.
What makes this property unique
Our house is much more to us than a piece of real estate. The house is our pride and joy and we are so grateful for it. We love relaxing there while being surrounded by so much beauty. We love watching the turtles come up for air. We are filled with awe as we see the whales breathe, breach, and frolic during winter and spring months. We can see these things happening while sitting on our lanai, sitting at our dining room table, or washing dishes at the kitchen sink. Every meal at the house offers a table with a terrific view. Not many restaurants can compete with our view. Needless to say, we prefer to stay home for meals. Mahalo for taking a look.
