About this property

Country Cottage, near HaHa Tonka Park, Free Kayaks & Outdoor Pavilion Game room

You'll love the tranquil feeling you get when you see the 'million dollar' view this house has to offer! Spend days and nights gazing out over the Big Niangua arm of the Lake of the Ozarks and watching the boating and jetski activity, right from the privacy of your house.

This nicely renovated 2 bedroom / 2 bath house is located at the Sugarloaf Vineyards west of Camdenton right where the Big Niangua tributary changes from a river to the Lake of the Ozarks. For larger groups we have a sister property next door that is a 3 bedroom, 3 bath and sleeps 6 to 8 people (VRBO listing 456932).
You'll be 'lured' to the Lake where the fishing is amazing for catfish, bass, crappie and walleye. Or play golf at either of two courses, Lake Valley Country club or Old Kinderhook (a Tom Weiskoph signature course). The master bedroom has a queen size bed, flat screen TV, WIFI, and a picture perfect view of the Lake. The en-suite master bathroom has a walk-in shower and a washer/dryer. There is also a fold out futon in the Master bedroom for your kids or extra guest. The guest bedroom offers a queen bed and a flat screen TV.

The living room is spacious and outfitted with a flat screen TV for your viewing pleasure and a DVD player for late night movies. There is a fold out couch for kids or extra guests in the living room.

The kitchen is well equipped with fridge, range, microwave and side bar for your favorite beverages. Ceilings are tongue and groove cedar milled from trees right off the property and give you that quaint, cabin-like and fresh smell of cedar! Enjoy dinners inside in the dining area or outside on the private patio so you don't miss the beautiful weather and wildlife! You can also enjoy the nice, private firepit just off the back deck. Or, there are several restaurants nearby from casual to fine dining.

Just next door to the house is an open-aired pavilion clubhouse with games to enjoy or just sit and take in the lake view.

One of the best features of this property is the easy access to the Lake of the Ozarks. Nestled within the Ozark hillsides of the Sugarloaf Vineyard property you can walk or drive to the Lake shore and enjoy the picnic grounds, fishing, or kayaking activities. You have free access to 4 kayaks, singles or doubles, for the length of your stay (a $100.00 value) and can pack a nice picnic lunch and your favorite beverages to enjoy while leisurely paddling the Niangua! There is also a propane grill and private patio located just behind the house. Please note that in early spring the Lake water level is drawn down about 5 feet to make ready for the spring rains but you can still launch the kayaks from our dock in the shallower water.

No matter what your perception of a perfect vacation is, you won't be disappointed with the relaxation and serene feeling you will have when you leave this refreshing property!

Natural Sanctuary
This property was perfect for a relaxing get away. The house was clean, had all the amenities needed, and a very informative host.Close enough to town to enjoy shops, yet positioned in a location that make you feel secluded. Gameroom, lots of different spaces to enjoy the outdoors. We really enjoyed the lakefront down the hill, love how every space of the property gives a whole new experience.

Always a great stay!
This is our 3rd time staying here and it’s always perfect. Property is clean and has everything you need. Multiple picturesque spots to sit and enjoy the lake and forest views. Two fire pits and access to kayaks within easy walking distance, plus easy driving distance to Ha Ha Tonka and Ozarks State Park. Love that it has a washer and dryer too.

Amazing weekend
The property had a beautiful view, and the property manager was so kind to us, recommending a winery in the area and even lending us her blender when we forgot ours so we could make dinner. The fire pit area was really cozy. Thanks for a relaxing weekend!

Retirement Road Trip
The scenery was beautiful. The cabin was precious. Perfect size for the 2 of us. Living room was very comfortable. It is located in a great spot to town and surrounding areas of interest. Walk down to lake pretty steep, a car may be best way to go for older people. Common area by lake was great. Beautiful peaceful sunset.

Wonderful place with easy access to lake and Ha Ha Tonka!
This is actually our second stay: we enjoyed our stay in spring so much, we decided to return in fall! The cabin is clean and well appointed, and I especially appreciate the two full bathrooms and the washer/dryer (makes life a lot easier when traveling with kids!) The property is beautiful and comfortable with gorgeous views of the lake. I was a bit sick this time, but I still had a great time just crocheting and enjoying the lake breeze and the peaceful view. The kayaks are within easy walking distance, and Ha Ha Tonka is just a short drive away. It feels very remote when you’re there, but it’s a short drive into town. The hosts are also very responsive and helpful.

Perfect spot to relax
Everything about this property was just what we were hoping for. The home was welcoming, clean, and beautiful! There is quite a bit to do on the property and we loved that. From the clubhouse games to the free kayaks we had the best time for our first time at Lake of the Ozarks. We will be booking again. Great hosts!

Perfect getaway
We came to paddle but the weather didn’t cooperate every day so we ended up hanging at the common area game room. It was so much fun. We had the place to ourselves. Near the lake they had anything you’d want to do, even disc golf baskets! Highly recommend. The kids loved it! There was so much to do, even on a rainy day.

Fun getaway at the Lake!
Our stay at the "Chardonel House" was absolutely great! Everything was just as advertised - the kayaks were so fun and available anytime we wanted them, daily swimming off the dock was relaxing and the game room kept my kids and myself in daily ping pong and Ms. Pac Man tournaments (which I lost each day to my girls). The walk to the lake/picnic/park area is just as they state - it was about a 1-1/2 to 2 minute walk and it was a bit steep, but if you load your car with all you will need for your swim or kayak time, it really is no big deal. If you stay at one of the homes here, you definitely need to be "okay" with sharing the swimming area/dock and game room with whomever is staying in the other home on the property. I have teenage daughters and the family renting the other property had teenage boys who invited several friends/family over to join swimming. My girls "waited" daily to swim when the family would take breaks, as they were not comfortable swimming in close proximity with a large group of rowdy boys. We hit Ha Ha Tonka Park one of the days (a MUST see if you like hiking and nature) and did shopping another day to avoid sharing, as the dock is not that large for a big group. But overall, the home and all amenities were great (but again, make sure your family is willing to share with strangers). The area is very private and quiet and we saw deer daily from our deck and in and around the grounds. It was a great week away from reality! Thanks Barb & Ward!

Weekend Family Getaway
This is our second time staying at one of the host’s properties and it certainly won’t be the last. We loved the cleanliness and how well-stocked the cabin was. The location is perfect for a secluded weekend on the water that is still only a few minutes away from necessities, shops, and restaurants. The ability to use the clubhouse and kayaks made for a fun and adventurous weekend as we are an outdoorsy family but we also loved sitting around the fire pit in the evenings. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms had hotel-sized shampoos and soaps which were thoughtful touches. Thank you! We can’t wait to be back!

About the host

Hosted by Barb Morris

Host profile image
Owners are Ward & Barb Morris who moved to the Lake in 1985 and raised our 3 children in one of the most beautiful locales in the U.S.! Barb owned and operated several Lake area restaurants over the past 30 years and enjoys the fine art of cooking and especially, pairing food with wine! Ward retired from his Computer Consulting career and enjoys working the grapevines and taking care of the property.

Why they chose this property

It is close to town but still a great, country setting with 8 acres and lots of wildlife from deer to White Pelicans, Blue Herons and more! Ha Ha Tonka State park is just a few miles away and with a dozen hiking trails a great excursion anytime we want!

What makes this property unique

We fell in love with the quiet of the Lake and especially the Niangua Arm tributary with it's amazing wildlife. During the months of February and November you can often spot as many as 700 great white Pelicans feeding on Lake fish for as long as 2 weeks as they migrate. Other birdlife includes the great bald eagle, blue herons, egrets, seagulls, hawks, owls and host of other. In March, you can spot beautiful red foxes siring their new pups and of course, several deer like to walk through the vineyard and eat Ward's grapes (to his chagrin)! It's a great family setting for renunions or to get away from the city.
