Gorgeous Vermont
I really loved this house. Pictures do not do it justice. The views are lovely from every location. They even had an unexpected outside shower. Kitchen was great we cooked nearly every day. Well stocked. This location cannot be beat. Hope to return

Family Gathering on Lake Champlain
This was the perfect place to connect to our family's history. My husband's parents grew up in Swanton and St. Albans but had camps on Lake Champlain. I'm sure they experienced all the same joys we did while staying at Sunsets over Lake Champlain where we could relax, enjoy each other's company, swim, kayak and view beautiful sunsets. This location had everything we needed for a great stay plus the ambience!

Perfect Place
The camp is very clean and has everything you need. The owners are very responsive if you have any questions. It’s just so relaxing and the indoor and outdoor porches are such a treat to sit out and enjoy the amazing views and sunsets.

Beautiful spot
This is a beautiful property. However, the VRBO listing needs to be updated as the bathroom featured has been remodeled. While the remodeling is lovely, my husband who is disabled could not get in and out of the tub which is very tall without my help. Also, with no safety bars in the shower, it was dangerous to get out of the high shower-tub.

Perfect Peaceful Family Fun
Where do I begin, because I might not stop! This place is clean, and has everything you need. The décor is adorable and very comfortable; it makes you feel at home right away. The back deck is just heavenly with the sound of the lake and the whistle of the trees and you can sit comfortably in the Adirondack chairs and watch the sunsets or the lightning storms across the lake. We wanted to stay longer and will hopefully return. Thank you so much for making this available!!

Come for the view
Great property for lake access and beautiful views/sunsets. Never got tired of relaxing and looking at the lake. Property was as advertised, very clean and had everything we needed for a week’s stay. St. Albans and Burlington were a bit of a drive but great areas to wander and have dinner. Jack and John were great hosts, good information ahead of time and friendly and accessible for questions during our stay. Recommend for the views and relaxation!

Beautiful view & cozy house
We really enjoyed our stay here directly on the water. The sunsets were spectacular, and the property is on a quiet part of the lake near a wildlife refuge, so peaceful and good bird watching too. There are many places in the house and yard to enjoy the view from the lake, and hearing the lapping waves all night was so relaxing. On our last night the water was like glass and we could see the stars reflecting on the lake. Just lovely! The house is very well appointed and has everything you need. Jack was super friendly and very responsive. Also, the neighborhood is pretty flat so it’s great for bike riding along the lake and farm roads. Local farm stands had terrific fresh produce. We would definitely stay here again, as it’s comfortable, clean, quiet and super relaxing!

Maquam
John is a wonderful, responsive host and the Maquam Shore home is simply beautiful! Situated directly on Lake Champlain with easy access to restaurants, grocery stores, a boat launch, etc., the home is very well appointed and very well cared for. BBQ grill, bicycles, and kayaks are available for guest use, and the private, spacious yard provides ample space for outdoor games such as croquet or cornhole. A west facing back porch complete with patio furniture, and Adirondack chairs provide plenty of seating to relax during the day or to take in the beautiful lake Champlain sunsets.

Swanton vacation
Jack was a very responsive host. The house was at a beautiful location, with spectacular views. Water quality in the house was excellent, and shower pressure was great. It was nice to have washer and dryer on site. Beds were comfortable. It was not in a tourist area, so it was very quiet which is what we were looking for. The lake was a little rocky, but very clear water. We enjoyed our stay. Our dogs enjoyed it as well. We loved the nearby rail trails for biking.

Spectacular sunsets, spectacular home
This property was perfect for us. The large deck was inviting for guests and family as was the lovely great room. The kitchen was easy to manage and well-equipped. My husband is disabled and was able to negotiate the entrance and bathrooms with only minor difficulty. It is definity our new “come back” place on the lake. We wish we had stayed two weeks instead of one.

Beautiful Spot
What a great week we had in October! The view was spectacular, the house had everything we needed and was very comfortable, and the ownership super responsive and friendly. Sadly, we couldn't get across the border to Canada, as Montreal was an easy drive away - maybe next time! Definitely recommend!

Cool Fall Breeze
The camp and stay were just what the DR ordered! The camp is much like what I grew up in during my VT summers when my parents owned theirs in Malletts Bay, VT. Had family for a few cook-outs and we all enjoyed the clean rustic decor and physical characteristics of this camp. The State of VT with their COVID protocol complicated things slightly but the owners and I pushed through. Absolute (5) stars!!!! Will visit again! Thank you!

What a view !
The place is so peaceful and quiet, ideal for a holiday away from the crowds and bustle of big cities. The view of the lake is beautiful no matter what the weather, we never tired of watching. The house is well located to visit places of interest in Vermont: Burlington is 40 minutes drive, Montpelier at 1:10 and Mount Mansfield at 1:20. Jack and John are listening hosts and answer questions quickly. We are delighted to have spent a week suspended out of time.

A Terrific Week
My family and I have stayed at VRBO vacation homes for nigh unto 15 years now, and "Sunsets Over Lake Champlain" is the best, and not just for the location right on the water with its spectacular views of the sky and water and the mountains across the lake but also for its funky furnishings and everything that comes with them. The padded furniture is comfortable and there are six wonderful Adirondack chairs facing the lake. The walls and floors and mantels and cupboard tops are covered with art from around the world, everything from posters of New Yorker covers to animal statues from India and, I presume, Canada. The house is incredibly well stocked with every kind of dishes and glasses and tableware and cooking pans and whatever utensil you might need to cook any dish. The kitchen is well arranged with lots of counter space to make cooking easy. The garage contains a canoe and two kayaks and all the safety vests that you can use, and use them we did. Our dealings with Jack were always cordial, and we took him up on a number of recommendations for things to see and places to eat and we were never disappointed. We had a wonderful time, and if we ever vacation again in Vermont, it would be hard for us to even think about going anywhere else.

A perfect getaway stay
We loved staying at this lovely cottage on the water. The location is perfect for day trips into Burlington as well as Montreal. We had hoped to ski but the weather did not cooperate. Regardless, we had plenty of options from touring to exploring to relaxing. The home offers every amenity needed and we enjoyed cooking in the ample kitchen and playing board games as a family in a relaxed setting. John and Jack are wonderful hosts and ensured that we had everything we needed for a perfect getaway. Their home is impeccable and tastefully decorated. We look forward to returning to this beautiful location to enjoy the summer fun that this cottage on the lake has to offer.

A Sunset Heaven
The location of this cottage is beautiful in full close up view of Lake Champlain with spectacular sunsets every clear night. The cottage itself is very well equipped and comfortable, wonderful lighting and comfortable chairs for reading. Our favorite spot was the large deck with Adirondack chairs and a table and chairs to enjoy meals outside. The owners provide sheets and towels, WiFi access, dishwasher, microwave and washer /dryer and kayaks and grills. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this cottage and found it a very refreshing and relaxing experience. Our one concern, as an older couple who likes to kayak and swim, was the steep, stone access to the water. However, we did manage to get some wonderful kayak paddles in , one at sunset we will never forget!

Fourth of July Trip
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful lake house. The sunsets were incredible, and you could not ask for a more panoramic view of the water. The décor was a perfect blend of vintage charm with eclectic touches; The kitchen and master bathroom upgrades were particularly impressive!

Gorgeous lake views, spacious and comfortable setting.
This is our second stay at this property and we could not ask for more. The setting is beautiful with gorgeous views of the lake, stunning sunsets and comfortable quarters. The location if off the beaten path yet easy access to grocery store, restaurants and great lake access. The lake is the prime attraction but on rainy days you can easily go to Montreal or Burlington. We chose to stay again as the peace of the surroundings is rehabilitating. The property has a unique sunroom that you just want to spend time inside looking over the lake. The house has many modern updates and has all you need to function as if it was your own place, kitchen, garage and patio. There are flat roads that you can eaasily bike on every day. The owners are responsive and easy to deal with. We certainly would stay again.

Our current full time residence is in the Hudson Valley area of New York, about 90 minutes north of Manhattan along the Hudson River. We bought the lake house as a long term plan for retirement and just began renting in 2011 due to lack of time allowed by demanding jobs. I'm Vice President of the Tonner Doll Company and my partner is Direct of Design and Construction for a college campus. We're from St. Clair, Michigan and Burlington, Vermont respectively and both grew up on the water-hence, this lake property. We looked at over 50 houses in the two year search and knew we would buy this house before we even got inside. All it took was a walk to the lake, a turn to see the lake side of the house and that was it.

Why they chose this property

As stated above, owning a house on Lake Champlain was a long term goal for us both. Being in close proximity to family in the Burlington area, as well as everything Burlington and Vermont offer is very satisfying. We believe the house is in one of the best areas of the lake, with three miles of open water in front of the house facing directly west and looking at North Hero island, as well as the peninsula that forms West Swanton, also referred to as Hog Island. This part of the lake is very quiet, perfect for swimming, kayaking and water skiing. Several of our past guests have brought boats and tied them to our private mooring.

What makes this property unique

This house and property are very unique to the area. The exterior of the house is log sided, evoking a slightly Adirondack flair to the place and it's sited about 8' above and 20' back from the lake itself. As one family member stated when walking in the first time, 'the lake kind of smacks you in the face'. The stone barbeque was one of those unexpected details that just closed the deal for me. The fact that you're looking at Lake Champlain while grilling certainly doesn't hurt at all either.
