Authentic Tradicampo

The best stocked place we have ever stayed in, fridge stocked with cheese, beer, eggs, coffee, fresh baked bread, homemade treats, rice, pasta, etc. Bikes were available, fishing rods and a croquet field! We were there mid March in bad weather, the inside of the house was quite cool, but with a fire going it was very comfy. Speaking of comfy, great bed!

During our three week trip exploring mainland Portugal and the Azores, this was the absolute best place we stayed. Excellent location, historic stone house, and an amazing host. I would highly recommend staying here for your stay on Sao Miguel.

Cozy Country House!

The house is super clean and the host provided so much great information on the area. Warm welcome included bread, cheese, milk and yogurt. Aside from an occasional crowing rooster, the surrounding village is cute and quiet. No hesitation in recommending this place!

An oasis in a quiet village

My husband and I stayed here to start our honeymoon. Although only on island for 3 nights, Ricardo helped us make the most of every day with restaurant, hiking, and other suggestions. The property was very special, and we hope to return soon.

Explained everything. Cleaning personnel came every 2 days to straighten the place up, which was very special. Ricardo had a bunch of yummy treats for us to start our vacation

An amazing stay!

We had a wonderful time! The scenery and views were beautiful and the added touch of the church bells and the animal chorus will be etched in our memories forever. We loved having full access to the wood stove (but we apologize for depleting your wood supply). Thanks to Ricardo for being an exceptional host and for making our stay so enjoyable. Kind regards, Sherri and Don

Best Part of the Island

We have visited Sao Miguel many times and this was our first time staying in the Northeast district where this house is. We absolutely loved it, and Ricardo had excellent suggestions that helped us discover new hikes and adventures. The house and garden are beautiful and offer many places to relax and enjoy the countryside. Every detail was of top quality, including bathrobes, bread, butter and jams, an outdoor wood-burning grill, etc. I highly recomment!

Beautifully Restored 200 Year-old Stone Cottage

The cottage is beautifully situated in a small farming community. There is a large, well-kept garden, and a private parking area. The host, Ricardo, is extremely helpful and provided a ton of useful information re things to do and places to go on Sao Miguel. He also generously provided food basics to ease kitchen set up. The kitchen is well-equipped, and an outdoor fireplace provides opportunities for grilling. We plan to return!

A unique and peaceful place

We enjoyed our stay at Casa da Fonte very much. This is a place which is well embedded in its rural surrounding and grants nice views of the meadows, the village and the ocean. It is very convenient and well-eqipped; its cleanliness is remarkable and they offer a lot of information about hikes and excursions on the island which we considered in our planning. The garden is large and well-kept (unfortunately the weather was such that we could not make extensive use of the garden). The fact that the fridge was equipped with food for the first days of our stay was a surprise and we would like to say thank you for this. In total: a place which we would like to revisit.

Beautiful cottage in cozy setting

We loved our stay & the gardens were spectacular. Ricardo was very knowledgeable and provided us with lots of helpful information. The home had everything we needed, including nice bikes. We had the pleasure of meeting Dahlia the caretaker & enjoyed our conversations with her. I would highly recommend stopping in Ponte Delgada at the huge farmers market to get your veggies for the week. They also have cheese, meat & a fish market. Ricardo’s wife made the most delicious Dona Amelia’s for us which we are going to try to replicate today (not tomorrow) because after a week of the most delicious Portuguese breads, cheeses & red wine we are off sugar for a couple weeks. 😉 The island was so clean, the people were wonderful, the roads in excellent condition, the trails were very well marked & the island was easy to navigate even when you don’t speak the language. I highly recommend a stay in this wonderful home & perfect paradise.

Wonderful place

This old house is a lovely place - with a huge wonderful garden and stunning views on the ocean. Check in was easy, wine/bread/butter/cheese were there, so we had something to eat, when we arrived. The house was cleaned every third day and Ricardo took care of all questions quick & friendly. Only: the place is a little out of the way.

Absolut empfehlenswert

Casa do Fonte - wunderbar!

Obrigado Ricardo! Claudia und Thomas aus Hamburg, Germany

Tranquil Garden by the Sea

We are wanderers and prefer to stay places where we learn something about the people and places we visit. Casa de Fonte is just such a place. Cozy and clean, the renovated stone house is perfect for two and can easily accommodate one or two small children. The casa is stocked with everything you need for a fun holiday along with some basic foodstuffs - including delicious handmade bread and homemade jam. We stayed here during the off season and experienced some chilly temperatures but managed quite nicely with the wood stove. We used the casa as a starting point to explore the spectacular island of Sao Miguel. Our host, Ricardo, was very helpful with recommendations on restaurants, shopping, hiking, and sightseeing. He was also responsive to any query or concern we had during our visit. The village of Algarvia is charming - hard-working farmers, tidy homes, horses for pulling the milk carts, goats, and, of course, cows. The local people were reserved and almost shy but ready to return your "bom dia" with a broad smile and a kind response. Make sure to visit Algarvia's Miradouro and bring a picnic. We spent our last evening there watching the gulls soar past the beautiful cliffs as the sun set to the west. A very memorable vacation - a place we want to return to.

Tradicampo, Casas de Campo Tradicionais, Lda is a company whose business purpose is to provide in the Azores high-quality self-catering cottages, tourist entertainment, and rural tourism services, on an environmentally sustainable basis.
Tradicampo offers rural houses in the district of Nordeste, Sao Miguel island, in the Azores. These stone houses are classified as 'country houses,' under the Portuguese standards and legislation for Tourism in a Rural Area, and have been renovated using traditional materials.
The interior and exterior environments and the various facilities available guarantee a high level of comfort, inviting guests to enjoy a leisurely, unforgettable holiday.
Tradicampo is committed to providing a warm welcome to the Guests, giving them permanent support. If desired, an overview of the island will be presented and many tips will be given about the best way to organize their holidays in the Azores regarding their interests and time availability.

Why they chose this property

As the house, located in Nordeste district, Sao Miguel island, Azores, was being rebuilt, we actively tried to maintain its architecture, restoring the original structure by using traditional materials and techniques. In addition, some new elements were added aiming to improve the living conditions. These new elements are characterized by aesthetically contemporary options.
The surrounding plots of land have been turned into gardens, where the peace and quiet of the countryside can be enjoyed. In the gardens, a wide range of ornamental plants can be observed. Some of these plants are endemic and some are fruit trees commonly seen in the backyards of Azorean rural stone houses.
For the interior decoration, we used restored traditional Azorean antique furniture together with contemporary objects, in order to obtain high levels of authenticity and comfort.
Our cottage offers you a range of leisure equipment that you can use inside or outside at no additional cost

What makes this property unique

Like pearls lost in the ocean, the Islands of the Azores, are located in the North Atlantic, about 1,500 km west of Lisbon. The archipelago is formed by nine volcanic islands and has a total area of approximately 2,333 km2.
On these islands, you will find places of extraordinary tranquility and beauty, where the blue of the sea and of the hydrangeas and the green of the fields and mountains range in hue from one island to another. The crater lakes have a unique beauty and mystical charm, associated with ancient legends. Their museums, churches, and palaces house artistic and historical treasures, and their traditions, popular festivities, handicrafts, and gastronomy are still very much alive, comprising a five-hundred-year-old heritage.
The Nordeste district, in particular, is the best-kept secret on São Miguel Island. Its untouched nature, with a large area of laurel forest, inhabited by the Azores bullfinch, a unique species, and its breathtaking landscapes, with the deep blue sea view.

ACTIVITIES TO EXPERIENCE: As a holiday destination, Sao Miguel island, definitely suits all tastes. Here you will find golf courses surrounded by flowers and lush vegetation, walking trails, where you can observe nature, birds, endemic plants, and volcanic phenomena; cetacean and marine life observation; grey sandy beaches inviting you to spend hours of fun in the sea, which is sometimes calm, and where the waves are often ideal for surfing. Tennis, horseback riding, sailing, and big-game fishing are among the many activities that you can choose for an unforgettable holiday.
