NEIGHBORHOOD:
Cape Sounion, is one of Greece's most renowned locations, due to its unique landscape with multiple peninsulas housing long golden beaches, and of course its connection to ancient Greece. Sounion is home to the ruins of the renowned ancient Greek temple of Poseidon, the god of the sea in classical mythology. its remains are perched on a cliff, surrounded on three sides by the sea. According to legend, cape Sounion is the spot where Aegeus, king of Athens, leapt off the cliff, thus giving his name to the Aegean sea.
''Villa Hera'', named after the ancient Olympian goddess, is located a few hundred meters from the temple of Poseidon, and coupled with the twinkling Aegean sea beneath, constitute a truly amazing panoramic view from this marvelously located estate. The surrounding area can be described as a huge archaeological site brimming with history and natural splendor. Rare, treasured temples, monuments, and one of the oldest theaters in the world can be found in the vicinity.
Guests are encouraged to visit Lavrio (10 Km) or 15 minute drive, which is a known city since Antiquity. Visitors can find there an interesting market, upbeat bars and well known restaurants for their Greek souvlaki or local specialties such as fresh fish and seafood. The city is safe for families traveling with children.
Finally, guests can take the ferry from the port of Lavrio and find themselves within an hour at the beautiful island of KEA which is the closest island of the Cyclades to Athens.
TRANSPORTATION
The city of Athens with its acropolis is situated less than 70 kilometers away. As if this was not enough, Sounion boasts one of the finest natural coast lines of the mainland, filled with sandy beaches of exceptional beauty, all minutes away from the estate.
The international airport "El. Venizelos" to the property (40 Km or 25 minutes of drive).
In addition, the villa is on the coast line where public transportation is readily available. There is a bus connecting Cape Sounion to Athens which runs on a regular basis including weekends and major holidays (80 Km or 1.5 hours).
The city of Lavrio is very easily accessible by car or by bus within 15 minutes (10 Km).
The Olympic Marina is a 10 minute (8 Km) drive.
