We loved walking to the Mall by the Capitol every day on our way to museums! Lovely neighborhood! The kitchen is like something from a Jacques Tati film: pneumatic bar stools, a dishwasher that opens by knocking on its door, a fully automatic espresso machine.... this was all really fun.
Overall we were comfortable in this apartment, as it was fairly clean and bright--but it is not really suitable for more than 2 people (as advertised.) Moreover, the host failed to provide two promised extra mattresses for our tween kids, so we had to make due for them on the sectional in the living room, with linens scavenged from the closet. Heating from the mini-split units was erratic, and there was no indication how to use the fireplace, so the apartment was sometimes cold.
Also, the host had given us the wrong electronic code for our apartment door. We were able to get in on our arrival, because, as it turned out, the door was never locked unless activated from an exterior button--which we didn't do until the morning of the 3rd day (no instructions were provided). When we returned that day at 8:00pm, we were locked out. Host was not reachable, ("out of the country"), and a call to his 'friend Sam', got no answer either. We spent a rather agonizing 2 hours in late evening with our kids, frantically calling/emailing the host, other hotels, and finally a locksmith. Luckily an email (or something) got through to the host, who finally called back and gave us the right code for unit 3 (instead of unit 2). After an exhausting day, we were able get in at close to 11pm.
At the price we were paying per night, this was not acceptable.
I presented all of this to the host for a response: his offer was a free night on our next visit.
With such unreliable communication and problems, we will not be returning.
I don't believe he intentionally gave us the wrong code, but he failed to deliver promised arrangements, and in combination with no back-up help provided, resulting in real stress for my family, I cannot recommend this place to others (especially with kids), in spite of it's wonderful location.
