Montezuma Heights "Buho" cottage. Into the great wide open. Sleeps 2
"Buho" is a new cottage facing the great wide open ocean, its sound and the immensity of the Pacific horizon. It would embraces you instantly. With a cozy setting, equipped kitchen . The pool is shared. Away from touristic sound. The cottage itself has the common area with the downstairs bed kitchen, table, private bathroom and hot shower in the first floor. In the loft are a second double bed with a couch facing pool and ocean.
The space: Our house and cottages have been build by us and took a lot of effort and love. We are very ecological oriented. All buildings are build with antic materials and done the way to harm environment less as possible. There almost no mosquitos where we are and any dangerous animals. There is a lot of wildlife, but it takes patience and the eye to find and see them, since they are shy and well camouflaged. We live in a BLUE ZONE and our water is maybe one of the best in the world, so better drink it.
Other things to note; The roads from Montezuma up are steep and for people who are not accustom to hills it can be scary, we advise people if they rent a car to rent a 4x4 (all Costa Rica) Taxis is a great alternative and will cost less. It is 10U$ one way.

We decided to change accommodations a few days before arriving in Montezuma Beach and couldn't have made a better decision. Enjoying the pool and working or reading on the covered patio were beyond relaxing. You're surrounded by nature while still enjoying the comforts of a full kitchen. Couldn't recommend staying here enough!
Watching the sunrise each morning from the covered patio was wonderful. It was nice to have the ocean breeze keep you cool in “the Heights”. The pool is a real plus! We enjoyed visiting with and meeting others from the New England area of the US as well as Montreal and Toronto Canada. Santiago, the caretaker, is very nice. We appreciated his emptying the trash and providing fresh linens and towels mid week,
Thank you for 3 beautiful days!! One of our favorite places we stayed while in beautiful Costa Rica. We loved the property and the views were incredible. There is a beautiful deck overlooking the ocean we sat on for breakfast and dinner. The pool was so refreshing too! The bed was very comfortable. We saw so many birds, monkeys and iguanas during our stay. We hope to be back!
This property was absolutely beautiful! Breathtaking view with amazing wildlife all around! Great communication with the owner and property manager! We visited 5 other places in CR on our trip and this property in Montezuma was our ABSOLUTE favorite!
The view from this property is amazing. The distance to town was not bad. The food in the town of Montezuma was wonderful too. Peter was a great host and we had all that we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed the covered patio watching the sun rise in the AM. And we took full advantage of the pool during the heat of the day. We will be back to visit for sure!!!
We loved staying here. The place was very clean and the necessities for the kitchen were provided. The view, garden, and ability to see many birds and butterflies has been our favorite. It did get hot with no AC and lack of breeze on our last night, but we were thankful for the fans that were in the rental. Peter was easy to reach and even got us connected to a friend who rented us an ATV so we could explore the area.

Very nice but a few surprises.
I will message Peter & Rocia privately for further comments.
Absolutely loved our stay. The host Peter and wife were charming and very helpful. Great advice and anticipated our needs. Santiago the caretaker looks after everything meticulously. The view is breathtaking and during our 15 days enjoyed everything from morning coffee to dinner overlooking the gorgeous view. We were in Buho which is right by the pool. We felt we still had privacy and swam every day or before retiring at night. You are surrounded by the beauty of the forest. I loved the book they prepared to explain highlights of the area. Lovely pictures too! Highly recommend. PURA VIDA!
This is a great place to stay. Quiet and an unbeatable view.
The cottage itself is rustic and small - but no one comes to Costa Rica to stay inside! Very comfortable to sleep- lots of breeze so no A/C was not an issue. Not bugs either.
The views from the covered veranda that is levered out over the cliff is phenomenal. We spent almost every end of day/evening there watching the waves and listening to the howlers.
Bring some candles to enhance the ambiance even more.
3km drive into town (if you use the shortcut)but be ready for steep grades and narrow roads. It may be unnerving the first time you do it once but after that it’s easy.
As others have said - we had the pool area to ourselves most of the time if we stayed home during the day
Take the Tortuga Island trip with Zuma Tours - on a weekday when it is less crowded. Hike the falls. Enjoy the restaurants. And relax.
True Costa Rica.
Thanks for sharing this slice of heaven with us
Pros: We loved our stay at this beautiful little house. Located 11 mins from the beach and with the most stunning sunrises. Santiago helped with the checkin and check out process which was very easy and he was also very nice with us.
Cons: we wished the mattress were more new you can’t sleep well here if you are planning to stay more than two nights. I feel like for the price we could have gotten a better bed. Some of The appliances were a bit dirty still as well as the pool.m, but Santiago managed to clean the pool a bit more.
Overall, we didn’t care… this place has everything so you can enjoy the best of both worlds jungle and the ocean. I’ll will stay here again for sure because I believe this is the best house in town to
Stay at.
Thank you Peter and Rocio for such a nice goodbye call.

What a perfect choice we made to stay in Buho Cottage hosted by Peter and Rocio. From the moment I booked I knew I made the right choice. I am a little high maintenance but they answered any questions I had promptly and they were so helpful! This place has a Billion Dollar View!!! We are up with the first break of sunrise and trust me it is glorious from anywhere you sit outside. The sounds of the birds and the beautiful nature below you just makes you never want to leave. The colors of the different species of birds that fly by is astonishing. They have a sweet heart of maintenance man named Santiago who is very consistent with maintaining the grounds and always helpful when asked. My spanish is not very good at all but he gets it. The cottage itself is so cute and also has an upstairs loft and view point. The bed was very comfy and nice for my back! It has everything you need and I can not over stress enough how I could tell this property was built with love and creativity. The pool just outside was a perfect way to cool down while you are gazing at the panoramic view of the ocean below. As listed this property has a shared space and honestly we had so much privacy and 98% of the time we had the pool area to ourselves. The odd time when we ran into someone it was so nice to meet a fellow traveler and exchange a story or two. The place is very quiet at night and we slept beautifully. The area is very well sexured and we felt so safe we slept with all doors and windows open. We had the opportunity to actually meet Rocio and Peter and now have new friends! Do not hesitate to book this property as in our opinion the best rental with the best breatth taking views in all of Montezuma!

Great location
Great location. Breathtaking views. We stayed 2 weeks, the lighting in the kitchen is really dark, to cook after 6pm I had to ware a head lamp. The mattress is showing its age and is uncomfortable. The bathroom sink has no hot water. To wash my face in the middle of the day I had to do it at the Kitchen sink or run the shower. The location can not be beat. Beautiful starry nights, breath taking sun rises.
Peter and Rocio made our stay amazing! While the spot is up in the mountains, the accommodations and information provided made it an easy to access spot. We loved the cottage and truly feel we had the best views in all of Montezuma. Very private and special place to stay.
This is my third time to Costa Rica, and I have to say Peter’s place is one of the best view there is. Spectacular sunrise with panoramic view. The property was well kept and they have a caretaker on site to take care of everything. Communication was great and any request we have made are responded in a very timely fashion. Thank you for a great stay and we will be back! :)
This was our favorite rental we have ever stayed in. The view is spectacular, almost breathtaking. I don't think there are any other houses in this vicinity with similar views. The pool and outdoor spaces were delightful, though shared, but usually we had them to ourselves. We stayed in the Art House (our host upgraded us last minute) and it was like a magical princess castle! This was an incredible stop on our honeymoon and I wish we could've stayed longer. HIGHLY recommend!
Be prepared to be amazed by the beauty and special care that has been created by Peter and Rocio. They were incredible hosts and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We had the luxury of staying in 3 different casitas. Each one with its own special and private outdoor areas to relax and take in the spectacular ocean and jungle views. Comfortable beds, well appointed and equipped with all the kitchen utensils needed to create wonderful meals. We watched with delight howler monkey's swinging through the trees over our heads. The pool overlooking the ocean was masterfully executed to soak in the spectacular views of the ocean and lap up the Costa Rican sunshine. Its a short drive to the town of Montezuma where you can walk along the beaches and jungles to a lagoon and waterfalls. The town has lots of wonderful shops, and restaurants.
My husband and I cannot thank you both enough for you extending not only your hospitality but what will hopefully be a lasting friendship. We look forward to returning soon.

The cliff side casita was everything described. Cozy, rustic, and very cute. It fondly reminded me of many New England seaside cottages I stay in as a child. The cottage is 30 feet from an art nouveau infinity pool which provides an epic view up the coast to Cabo Blanco reserve. The casita is about 3 kilometers from Montezuma center and away from everything but tranquility.

About the host
Hosted by Peter and Rocio Kahl
We appreciate life and we are grateful to be still around in a healthy way. Nature lovers, peaceful minded, love dogs as much as humans :) and all sentient beings. Play music and love dance. Followers of Buddhism as way of being present in this life. We are a couple made up, beside destiny, by our understanding of diversity. Peter an adventurous and visioner German, who left his country cause in the back of his mind since he was a child had the feeling of living abroad. Came to Costa Rica years ago and immediately, fell in love with the beauty of Costa Rica and with a sensitive Costa Rican woman, Rocio. She a former teacher of the University of Costa Rica, a dancer who has the privilege to achieve her master´s degree at Naropa University, in Boulder, Colorado. Comes from a family of a 'Zarzuela' and Operetta singer, and a well known oil painter. Visitors can enjoy his paintings that give life, color, meaningfulness and pour wonderful energy into this space and time container. Peter and Rocio blessed by the cosmos sculptured day by day a family of a 11 years old daughter and older son. A family, with an artistic eye that allow life to nurture them by being always grateful to the forces that compose their rhythm and drive in this trajectory of beingness.
Why they chose this property
We have chosen to live here, cause the first encounter with this place gave us the sense of such a peacefulness for having the lull of the ocean waves as a front neighbor nurturing our senses. Then, the stars without shyness getting out at night to wave at us. The sun touches carelessly the window with its big red face every morning. Seeing a full moon drawing a sparkly path on the skin of the ocean is like an illusion of reality or reality is an illusion? Come to hear the plays of the ocean and be a witness yourself of such a beautiful nature´sculpture. Researching that ancient Costa Rican indigenous inhabitants used to lived around, we honored them by having different icons that refer directly to their way of living and being. You would find those around.
What makes this property unique
This cliff location with a first line ocean view makes a plus hard to beat, only the frequency of your heart can beat it :) ! when being overtaken by such a gentle nature pulse. Beside, its very cozy and Feng Shui oriented. One has nature and privacy as a companion. The ocean is your closest viewer. It is quiet, safe, secluded, great for relaxation and has internet access. Here the breeze runs naked all year around, that is why the name of the town ('Las Delicias' = Delicious) cause the wind touches and embraces the visitors refreshing ones´ existence. Most of the material we used to give birth to this project were recollected for years ahead, in order to save antique windows, French doors and recycle wood floors and various wood structures. Some of the pieces come from early 1900´s. We worked very hard to restore them to be able to bring them into space again, bringing more Co2 to the planet, instead of letting them being burn or destroy, as originally planned by construction agencies. To round up the gorgeous warmness of the wood, we created spaces with mosaic designs to give a chance of any possible sensitive encounter. Come yourself to see that any photo would be able to do its justice, simple the view of the wide wide open see and the first touch of the horizon would eclipse and capture your senses like a spell drive. To really believe it you got to come here, you will not regret it.
