The Milk House . . unique in every way, and a place for the adventurer who loves a simple, peaceful lifestyle for a weekend, or for longer term lodging ( w/a significant discount.)
Originally part of a dairy operation, the Milk House still has the large steel doors that admitted cows for milking. I have chosen to keep it much as it was then, w/ the added conveniences of a small bathroom and fully equipped galley kitchen -(sink, refrig, microwave, hot plate, air fryer, crockpot, counter-top oven but no full-size oven.)
The main room has a daybed with trundle underneath, two comfy arm chairs and a dining table with 3 chairs for eating or working. Additionally, there is a comfortable daybed with trundle underneath sleeping two located in my office which adjoins the Milk House, separated by a small steel door and four large steel "cow" doors. There is also space there for two airbeds or cots - altogether allowing six guests to stay. The base price is for the Milk House only - to add the Office, each additional guest is $20/person/night.
( I do not use my office when guests are there.)
Keep in mind - this is a tiny, rustic house with concrete floors - an adventure in bygone days when life was physically hard, but simple; and country life was desirable. A mighty wood stove and space heaters keep you cozy in cold weather with air conditioning in the summer. The Milk House is one of the outbuildings on a working 60 acre farm about 8 miles SE of Carthage.
PLEASE NOTE: I cannot accommodate any animals inside the house. Because we are a working farm, there will sometimes be farm activities going on while guests are here. My husband and I (who do not live on the grounds,) may come and go discreetly as we take care of our land and animals, & our son also drives through as a security measure to lock the chicken door and check the creek at dark nearly every night.
The nearest neighbor is a long stone's throw away, so the peace, quiet, and beauty of this farm will gently roll away the demands and stresses of life. Sturdy St. Gertrudis cattle, the softly clucking hens, and some affectionate, but strictly outdoor cats, afford you the idyllic environment of the Milk House at Ozark Highlands, a truly special place!
Here are three additional amenities that may interest your group:
FARM TOUR
At the Cottage farm, (weather/season permitting,) we offer a Farm Tour which includes interacting with and hand-feeding Hannah & Hezzy, our long-hair Scottish Highland heifer & bull; Tom and Harry, our two Alpacas; Rebecca, our LaMancha milk goat (and the other goats;) Libby, Valiant, & Esther, our Anatolian/Pyrenees goat guardians; and, Jill, the affectionate barn cat.
Across the road at the Stirling farm are beautiful St. Gertrudis cattle, my assortment of chickens, and more sweet, affectionate cats. In addition to interacting and hand-feeding the animals (except Libby,) the tour includes milking lessons (when Rebecca is still producing,) and egg collection - $30 for 1-10 people - $40 for 11-20.
MASSAGE:
I am acquainted with an experienced massage therapist, who brings her table and supplies to the property. One recent guest who has experienced professional massage therapy in many of her world-wide travels, said, "Elise gave me the best massage I have ever had!" And another said, - “ Elise gave Rich the best massage he has had since we left Arizona 20 years ago!” (Advanced notice necessary-payment made directly to Elise.)
CATERING:
There are also two caterers within five miles of the farm:
Angie Smith – catering – smoked meats, etc.
Mende Staggs – cakes and full meal catering.
Communication and payment made directly to them.
