Loved the location
We rented this 3 bedroom condo for a week in February. It was just as promised. There were 6 of us and each couple had a bedroom and bathroom. The view was fantastic and it was a 2 minute walk to the beach and the grocery store. The bed wasn't too comfortable but the location and the patio on the water more than made up for it. All the restaurants were within walking distance. Lots to do nearby. The condo was perfect. Nick and Kaye were very nice and helped us with all our needs. Our only complaint was that their boat was sold out for the week. Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time to avoid disappointment. We would have enjoyed a day trip on their best.

Highly recommended
We had a week planned in Antigua and spent many nights researching resort and accommodation options. We chose Jolly Harbour because it is an exclusive gated community with the dual attraction of harbour and picturesque 2 mile white sandy beach. Jolly Lodge stood out for us with its central location between the beach, supermarket, bars and restaurants. There are not many 3 double bedroom properties with a private pool in the area and this, together with Barbara's warm and personal communications made us realise this was a treasured and cared for home-from-home rather than basic rental house. It's never easy travelling with young teenagers but the location afforded them the freedom to stay up late, mix with friends at the local bars and safely wander home. We hired a golf buggy one day because everyone else seemed to have one but didn't really need it. We enjoyed lounging on the spacious balconies watching the boats and birds, and relaxing in the secluded side garden with its new pool, bar and tropical plants. Inside, the house was spacious, well decorated, furnished and equipped with Mosquito blinds provided on all doors and windows and fans and A/C in the main rooms. Building, maintenance and utility services are never to the same standard oversees as in the UK and Barbara is very open, providing detailed notes and instructions in advance on what to expect, need-to-know's and how to operate everything. Neighbours Nick and Kaye welcomed us and were very helpful through the week. They own the beautiful 50ft Beneteau yacht 'Jabberwocky' which is available for private charter. We were pleasantly surprised at the bus (minibus) service and never waited more than 3 minutes for a bus which took us to lovely beaches and restaurants further afield. It was nice to travel this way as the locals are so friendly, jovial and engaging. Sunday night at Shirley Heights is a must if you want to soak up the Caribbean atmosphere. We had several other day trips and restaurants planned but didn't take them as we were so happy to relax and enjoy the villa. A lovely holiday and highly recommended.

After much research, we found Jolly Lodge and it was every bit as good as we had hoped

About the host
Hosted by Barbara Thomson
I live in Lymington UK. I am retired (from IBM) and spend six months of each year in England, and six months in my lovely home in Antigua (to avoid the English winter!) I was a "yachtie" but recently sold the boat. I also love gardening and enjoy finding interesting plants from the Caribbean to plant in myJolly Harbour garden. (A local gardener takes care of the garden when we are away). I also play golf, and collect art. An eclectic mixture of local and international paintings are displayed on the walls of Jolly Lodge.
Why they chose this property
For eight years my late partner and I spent every winter in New Zealand. The journey took three days each way. During a return trip from NZ we visited Jolly Harbour, and had more fun in six days than in six months in England! I now find direct flights to and from Antigua from UK, USA and Canada easy and stress-free. I love the climate, the best in the World, and the friendly Antiguan people. Jolly Harbour is full of happy like-minded people all here to enjoy themselves. I love the proximity to a wonderful beach, excellent restaurants and friendly bars. Everything needed for a relaxing holiday is in the JH complex, a car is not needed unless one wishes to explore the Island, with its' famous Georgian Nelson's Dockyard, Falmouth with fabulous superyachts, & the exciting island capital city, St John's.
What makes this property unique
I bought this property because it has three double bedrooms, unlike most properties in Jolly Harbour with only two bedrooms. The corner location gave us a private garden and the opportunity to build a side extension and heated swimming pool within the secure fenced area of the property. The private position and location of the house allows a cool breeze to blow through day and night; we have never had to use air conditioning in the ground floor rooms, and rarely in the bedrooms. Ceiling fans in the rooms, and on the waterfront patio, keep us cool and relaxed.
