About this property

Idyllic executive home, tranquil garden, pool, minutes to beach, amenities

Dos Palmeras is an executive holiday three-bedroom home located in the peaceful and secluded EE Las Huacas region of Nosara.
Nestled in the hills above beautiful Guiones beach, Dos Palmeras is perfect for individuals looking for peace and quiet while remaining just a short drive from an assortment of popular restaurants, shops, and the beach itself (approx. 3km). With a large kitchen/living room area, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a 35 foot infinity-edge pool, this home is ideal for families or groups of friends looking for a small piece of paradise in Costa Rica’s Guanacaste region.
The beautiful and spacious granite kitchen, kept cool by a large vaulted ceiling and fans, is fully equipped, complete with a gas range and a large refrigerator. With a unique open-concept design, the living room and master bedroom open fully to the terrace and pool beyond, giving one the sense of living outdoors. The home can also be completely secured with sliding doors and roll down motorized curtains for safety purposes. We also have multiple safes for your valuables.
The dining area on the terrace offers a breezy, sheltered eating experience with views out to the infinity pool and surrounding jungle. Wildlife is abundant, with howler monkeys passing by.
The bedrooms are all outfitted with king size beds but those in both guestrooms can be separated into two twin beds, depending upon your needs. A/C is available in all of the bedrooms, but with the gentle hilltop breezes and the house’s open design, you might just find that you don’t even need it. The house sleeps six.
Other features include: two wireless internet providers, TV, BBQ, safety bars or roll down gates on all openings, 4 safes, and an alarm system that is monitored by phone by a security service. We have a large water tank, so when the water is turned off in Guiones for part of the day or night, which happens quite often in the High Season/Dry season, you will have water available all the time.

Costa Rica has recently implemented a 13% sales tax on short term rentals of 21 days or less. The tax does not apply to longer term rentals.

Enjoy your stay in beautiful Nosara. Pura Vida

A perfect stay in the jungle, a short drive to the rest of paradise.

Philip and Donna have thought of everything with their beautiful house. From the infinity pool and amazing seating all around it, to the comfortable bedrooms, the fully stocked kitchen, and all the security, we had everything we needed. They were very responsive and gave us some great tips for the area and all we needed to know for our time here. Love Nosara and love Dos Palmeras, it was in fact, idyllic.

Lovely house nestled in the jungle of Nosara

Our family enjoyed our our stay at Dos Palmeras. The house was as shown in the photos. We really enjoyed relaxing outside in the pool and hammocks. There was lots of wildlife to enjoy, monkeys, butterflies, coatis and iguanas. You will need a car if you stay at this house to drive to the beach and town. We would rent this house again if we returned.

Beautiful home for a family vacation

We had an amazing vacation at Dos Palmeras. The home is very spacious and was perfect for our family. The security gates on all external doors were a huge benefit as we have small children and were able to block them off from the pool when needed. We felt extremely safe in the house and the security guards that patrol the area were very friendly and kept a watchful eye on us. The water pressure was good and the house was breezy and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped but was missing a functioning dishwasher. We ate most meals at home, so we had a lot of dishes to do by hand! The property manager and cleaning staff were great and the gardener Herman was lovely and brought us bananas that were growing on the property! We would definitely recommend this house to others and would rent it again if we were returning to town.

Jungle paridise

Pool, hammocks, grill, nature and beauty of home were amazing. 5 minute drive to beach, skate park, grocery, restaurants... we did ATV rentals for a day tour, beyond amazing, chartered a fishing boat with captain and caught 25 + varied fish. Felt like we went back in time 50-100 years. Back to nature. If you are squeamish with nature...lizards, monkeys, birds, insects, raccoons.... this will test your limits. For us, it was perfect!

A dream!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Donna and Philip's place for 5 nights in March 2018 and we don't have enough good things to say. The place was a dream....waking up to howler monkeys, bird watching, swimming in the pool to break the afternoon heat; we could not have asked for a better time. The garden and pool are very well maintained and the beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is also equipped with all the gadgets you need. Make sure you have a car if you stay here, as there are a ton of small towns and beautiful beaches to explore nearby. We hope to return in the future!

Amazing...a perfect vacation retreat!

Words (or pictures) could not do this house justice. You simply must just go there to experience the awe. Philip was an incredible host that left no detail undone. He was knowledgeable...helpful and extremely quick to respond any time I had a question. We just flew back home after spending a week at his home and I miss the sights and sounds of Costa Rica already. You will need transportation to get around but trust me, you won't mind. The beaches in the area are amazing as well as all the restaurants and activities that are available for a perfect vacation. It was so nice to have a "home base" to return to....jump in your own private pool to unwind and relax with a beautiful breeze and sights around you. Our family had an unforgettable time and can't thank Philip and Virginie enough for making it all happen!!

Beautiful house on hill in jungle setting.

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful, well-appointed house in Guiones. The drive up and down the hill and into town or beach takes about 10 minutes, as it is steep, curvy and dirt. The house feels very secluded in a jungle setting, even though there are houses all around. The pool and patio are lovely and we would sit and watch and listen to the wildlife (monkeys, parrots). Our 2 college age daughters wished we were within walking distance to the beach, but loved the pool. There was something for everyone - surfing and zip lining, relaxing & walking on the beach (that has no development, so is quite pristine), having lunch or dinner at one of several good restaurants. One of the things I love about Costa Rica is the healthy lifestyle and fresh, organic food. The fruits and vegetables were wonderful. The houses are close together and one night our neighbors had a loud party until 2 a.m., however only one of us was wakened by it! The howler monkeys wake you up in the morning, but they only howl for a few minutes. Phillip was very helpful with directions and making sure we had everything we needed. It was one of the best family vacations we have had!

Cool spot

Thanks for sharing your great house with my family. Really enjoyed the way you guys take care of the house and how it feels like it’s part of the jungle. My kids were up and in the pool every morning and loved the pizote and monkeys and iguanas. My daughter liked the monkey viewing platform out in the trees. We zip lined, rented quads for day and even found horses down at nosara river mouth. I was surprised by the security bars, guard and amount of theft in the area but we didn’t have any problems when we were there and I felt safe with my family but was always sure to use the alarm and security bars. I spoke with the pool guys and the gardener and they seemed nice and were keeping things up well. The gardener had nice things to say about you as the owner and I appreciated that too. Hope you and your family get to go back soon and enjoy the Pura Vida.

Oasis in the Jungle

Dos Palmeras, located just far away enough from the town of Playa Guiones, was a perfect vacation home for our family of 4. The jungle setting, open floorpan, overall quality of the house & pool were exactly what we were looking for. Thank you to Phillip and his management team for making our trip to Guiones the perfect experience for our family. Muchas Gracias, Larry

“Sophisticated Jungle Living”

Where to start? Dos Palmeras is located in a prestigious area of Nosara, a five minutes drive above the coast, and immersed in the fascinating rainforest. Private and tranquil, this beautifully designed house provides the perfect base for dipping in and out of the surrounding attractions, beaches and activities. Whoever planned/designed this villa thought of everything, and the facilities/equipment on hand are top notch. We are just loving eating out al fresco around the pool, and relaxing in between jaunts out around this stunning natural area. We are travelling with two teenage children, boy and girl, and the layout of the house is ideal for this set up as everyone is enjoying their own space and privacy. The best way to describe it would be 'luxury living within your own slice of paradise' - perfect for nature, animal and bird lovers - as you can while away the hours around the gorgeous infinity pool looking out for the different species of birds and animals passing through your very own garden! As for the surrounding area: we had read many reviews with people moaning about the dirt/rough roads around Nosara. This for us has not been a problem at all, and it's important to remember that the best things and places in the world are always slightly less accessible - we sincerely hope that the roads do not get too perfect - as this will encourage too many visitors and development. At the moment this all adds to the authenticity of the area, described by many as the Hawaii or Malibu of 30/40 years ago. Let's hope it stays this way and the fabulous ecosystem stays intact. During our stay we surfed, watched an 'arribada' turtle nesting event at Ostional, had a day out on Quad bikes, zip wiring, horse riding, kayaking...and in between enjoyed returning to our fabulous base of Dos Palmeras. All within easy distances. We have to say that our stay at this lovely property in many respects has made our holiday, and there's no question that should we ever return to this area we would stay here again (shame Costa Rica is so far from us!!). Highly, highly recommended.

A beautiful and comfortable house!

I loved the design and layout of the house and pool. It was aesthetically pleasing as well as very functional. The house stayed cool with the high ceilings, ceiling fans, and a/c units for the bedrooms. We were very comfortable with our 2 teenage boys and everyone enjoyed the pool after returning home. The management was prompt and helpful when issues arose (and there were a few) and even took the time to locate the glasses I unfortunately left behind, and mail them home. We asked for a breakfast cook and Graciela was fantastic. We had an abundance of delicious food every morning. One evening we wanted to dine at home with friends and asked her about cooking dinner. She suggested we have sushi and she would cook with her husband, who is a sushi chef. The meal was stunning and delicious. I highly recommend her services, as it made the vacation more relaxing. The patio is a very pleasant place to eat and rather than rushing out for 2-3 meals a day, or buying groceries and spending time in the kitchen, you can have delicious home-cooked food at your vacation home. The hammocks on the patio made for great relaxing and reading. On the downside, I must mention a few drawbacks which could be easily remedied. The house was not well-stocked with necessities, particularly in the kitchen. Just three examples will suffice: there wasn't a pair of scissors to be found. Also, there were no sleeping pillows on the master bed and no wash cloths for bathing or washing your face. There were pillows in pillow shams but no pillows with pillowcases. I do not know if it is typical to sleep on a decorative pillow in an outer sham, or if we were expected to remove the shams and sleep on the pillows inside, although they did not have pillowcases. We took the pillows from the unused twin beds but if we were traveling with 4 children that would not have been an option. In such a nice home, I would have expected more attention to supplying the home with things that people use every day and with more thought to stocking a kitchen adequately. I did mention these things when I left and perhaps some changes were made. Overall, I recommend the house and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Nosara.

A wonderful retreat!

We stayed in early July and had the best time. Four adults made the trip to this paradise. The house is wonderful. The main house is open to the outside with the bedrooms secluded away from the main living space. The bedrooms have AC which I would recommend. The pool is great and the hammocks around the pool are a nice place to relax. The kitchen has everything that you need. The grill outside was a nice feature that we used a lot. A rental car is a must. We drove around the area to get to the beach, restaurants and shopping. It was very easy to get around. We found a nice market about 10 mins away and did a lot of shopping there. We were able to cook at home for a lot of meals. La Luna is a great place to eat and see the sunset. By far our favorite! Zip lining with Miss Sky was a great morning activity. So much fun. Beach Dog Cafe was a great place to eat and drink before or after a stop at the beach. Coconut Harry's to surf and to eat at Taco Taco. El Chivo for a little night life and live music. Tibidabo is another great place. We had a wonderful meal there our last night. So many great places that I can't list them all. Some other reviews talk about the security system and locks on everything being a drawback. I will say that they are not the most fun things to deal with, but I liked having the ease of mind that we were safe and our stuff was safe when we were not there. The area is very safe but small crime (stealing) is something that can happen. We were ok with the extra security because we knew we were safe. The property management team was a great help as well. We had some electrical issues due to a storm and they were able to help without any problems. They even gave a couple of places to check out. They were very helpful during this whole process from start to finish. As was the owner. Philip, you have a great place. Thank you for sharing it with us. I appreciated all of your emails back and forth. You and Virginie were so helpful. Really made our trip easy and enjoyable. I look forward to coming back to Dos Palmeras in the future. This was our second time to the area and each time we fall more in love with it. Thanks again to Philip, Virginie and Ivan!

We stayed in March/April 2015. I have little to add to the other comments other than to agree that the house is outstanding. The setting is lovely (secluded jungle), and the house itself is well maintained and modern. The pool guy came nearly every day, and cleaning staff weekly. We were there with two other families and all agreed that we had lucked out with the nicest house (particularly given the relative low cost). The only drawbacks (in my view) are that the two guest bedrooms are not connected to the main house (a bit of a problem for us with two young kids) and the road up to the house was not in the greatest shape (though none of the roads in Nosara are in the greatest shape). In conclusion, we will definitely look to rent Dos Palmeras first when we return to Nosara.

2nd trip to this great property!

We stayed in this house a year ago and chose it again for this year's trip to Nosara. There are only two of us, my husband and I, so the main portion of the house without accessing the additional two bedrooms is the perfect size for us. The ability to easily open the large patio doors and create that indoor-outdoor living space makes the overall square footage feel huge. Kitchen is well equipped (dishwasher was out of order but that's not a big deal). Master bedroom is nice size and master bath is very nice as well. The owner added a grill for guest use this year, which we were pleased to see. Indoor seating consists of the stools at the kitchen island and a smallish couch and two chairs, but who wants to sit inside when you can be outside? I did use the couch though after dinner to read. The outside area is very well thought out; there's a large table, 4 chaise lounges and 2 hammocks near the large and well-maintained pool. Because of the way the house is situated, you feel a good sense of privacy although there are neighbors nearby. You look down into the jungle rather than at other houses. I understand the house is relatively new, only 2 or so years old so everything is in very good condition - no signs of wear and tear. The alarm is easy to use, the windows are barred (tastefully) and the big gates outside the sliding doors create a sense of security. The security company itself is vigilant, and visible. The only issue I see with this house is the access to the add'l bedrooms being from the outside patio area only. I can see this being concerning if you were traveling with children and wanted to lock up at night. You should study the floor plan of the house carefully to make sure you understand the layout. I also did not indicate "people with disabilities' in the "I'd recommend this property for..." section of the review as you need to park on the side of the road and walk down a flight of stairs to access the house as the driveway is chained off. Possibly you could ask the property management company if driveway use would be permitted if the stairs are a concern as once in the house, it's all one level. We loved the house and would stay there again for sure! The EE section is one of the best areas in Nosara to stay!

Beautiful, safe, new house in Nosara with fantastic pool

I was here with our two young children for over one month. We loved it! The house is only a few years old and in fantastic condition. Very well built. It was very clean upon arrival and weekly cleaning staff kept it like this. All the cleaning and maintenance staff were super friendly and hard workng. The kitchen is beautiful with tons of space and all the amenities one would need. We all loved the salt water pool and this was maintained very well too. The road up to the house has security and the house itself is very secure so we always felt safe. Both bathrooms have beautiful large vanities with large walk in showers. Because of the open concept design with fans in every room we never needed A/C. Lots of closet space. Mattresses and pillows were clean and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and give this place our highest recommendation.

Amazing house & location

We spent a week here but should have been longer. This house is fantastic, better than the photos portray, so well designed to meet all our needs. We just loved opening up the sliding doors, almost like removing two walls out to the dining area and pool deck. The jungle is right there with the howler monkeys. We've rented other houses in Nosara but always felt surrounded by noisy neighbors. Here you really have your privacy but yet only minutes away from the beach, shops and restaurants. We felt safe because of the security systems and the whole section on the hill has its own security patrol. We highly recommend this house.

Great home to rent in Nosara

Great home located up the hill in Nosara, Playa Guinones. Tucked away in the jungle you have a very private place to stay. House is very clean and comfortable. Great open layout, the kitchen living area completely opens up to the outdour living / pool area. Kitchen has everything you need to cook whatever, or not. Perfect pool and very comfortable lounges, hammocks to fully relax. And YES the monkeys were right over our heads in the trees. Never gets old. Check in was very easy with Agnes meeting us and driving us to property and answering all the questions we had. The house is up the hill about a mile so you do need to drive into town / beach, but after driving the hill a few times it really is no big deal. I would reccomend the hose to anyone visting the Nosara area.

About the host

Host profile image
We are a retired Canadian accountant and chiropractor from Toronto who designed and built this home to get away from the winters. We enjoy having our two sons join us for vacations.

Why they chose this property

Nosara and the people here are amazing. Beautiful town to relax and unwind, you may want to surf or yoga if you are so inclined, otherwise just enjoy the peace and tranquility.

What makes this property unique

Our house, up in the hills above the beach receives cooling breezes and is peaceful and quiet but only a 6 minute drive to the main area for restaurants and shops. Neighbors are far enough away that you won't have to listen to their conversations and they to yours. You won't however escape the howler monkeys who will insist on being heard.
