About this property

Child and pet friendly Stone Farmhouse with private heated pool on 2 acres

1 hour 15 mins drive from Toulouse’s Blagnac Airport or Rodez Airport, our 18th century stone farmhouse is situated in the heart of beautiful countryside, nestled in a hamlet, with unimpeded panoramic views.
Relax on chaise lounges around the saltwater pool, heated May through October, and spend cocktail hour seated by the old barn, taking in the artistic majesty of the historically listed 17th century Pigeonnier, considered by locals to be the 'jewel in the crown' of the medieval village of Caylus.
'Le Pigeonnier' has 3 bedrooms, 2 with queen beds and 1 small bedroom with 2 single beds. (This room is best for young children)
Additionally, there is a full bed on the landing upstairs, which has a flat screen TV with English FreeSat and French Orange Satellite , and a day bed that can be converted into a queen bed in the living room, excellent for guests who don't want to deal with stairs.
All beds have 'Shabby Chic' linens and quilts, and down comforters. There are reversible heating/AC units throughout the house.
There is a bathroom with toilet, washbasin and shower/bath upstairs, and a bathroom with toilet, washbasin and shower downstairs.
Additionally, the bedroom above the kitchen has a small en suite bathroom with a toilet, washbasin and shower.
The living room features comfortable sofas and arm chairs, a wood burning stove, stereo system, flat screen with hundreds of channels from UK FreeSat and French Orange Satellite TV. We also have plenty of board games for interactive guests (scrabble, monopoly, chess, checkers etc).
A comfortable daybed next to our library of books offers the perfect spot to read or take a siesta. There is fiber optic wifi internet throughout house with plenty of discreet work spaces for the traveler who has to continue to communicate in the fast paced world they have almost left behind. Land line telephone has free calls to Europe and the US - including cell phones.
The kitchen is extremely well stocked, satisfying the most expert cooks. There is plenty of cutlery, plates, glassware, saucepans, salad bowls etc for any imagined meal.
The rustic dining table next to the wood burning stove offers the perfect spot to enjoy all the local delicacies from the various village markets.
The bamboo, Ibiza inspired, pergola, outside the kitchen, offers perfect al fresco dining both, night and day. The roof is water proofed so if there is a surprise rain storm, you will still enjoy outside dining!
The gardens are extensive with plenty of areas for quiet repose. The pool area has a fence around it and a childproof gate. In the pool cabana there is a seating area for 6 people, to enjoy watching the sun come up whilst sipping their morning tea or coffee.
The pool is salt water and is heated through the months of May through October. There are 6 sun beds around the pool and 3 parasols.
There is a hammock in another part of the garden, under tall pine trees, and of course
the roofed seating area to the side of the living room is a lovely spot for cocktail hour, where the heat of the day gives the perfect excuse to sample the local wines. There is a ping pong table in the garden, 3 bikes at your disposal, and and large stone barbeque in the garden for deliciously simple summer meals.
The stunning Pigeonnier, a piece of historic architecture in the garden, stands majestically for your own personal delight. A perfect subject for artists.

CAYLUS
The medieval village of Caylus nestles in the beautiful Bonnette Valley on the border between Quercy and Rouergue. 12 minutes drive from the farmhouse, it is a thriving village with a boulangerie, a butcher, two small supermarkets, two bars and and three restaurants.
This region features oak forests, rolling hills, spectacular river gorges and valleys, medieval bastide hilltop towns, amazingly preserved castles, warm and friendly people in local villages, each with its own vibrant weekly farmers market.
Predominantly a farming area, the fruit and vegetables are outstanding as is the local wine, duck and goats cheese.
St Antonin Noble Val, situated in the dramatic Aveyron Gorge, is only a short drive away where you can go kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing and cycling or simply just enjoy wandering around the famous Sunday morning market. This village is so picturesque it has been the centre of numerous films, most recently '100 Foot Journey', starring Helen Mirren.
There are an abundance of places to visit within easy reach such as Cahors, Montauban, Albi, Corde-sur-Ciel, Narjac and Toulouse, France's fourth largest city.
For those who like driving, the Mediterranean coast and Bordeaux are both about 3 hours drive. Finally, don’t forget the wine. “Le Pigeonnier” is situated between the wine producing regions of Gaillac and Quercy and a visit to the vineyards is recommended.

Lovely property in an amazing setting.
From initial booking our contact with Camilla was very helpful. She answered our questions promptly and provided thorough information as our stay approached. The property was in a beautiful rural location but within 15 minutes of Caylus with bars and a small but well stocked supermarket. We loved the pool surrounded by lavender and views of the countryside. The house itself was clean and well equipped for our group of 6. The air conditioning was a real bonus with temperatures of 30 -38 degrees during our stay. We found our stay very relaxing and would certainly recommend the property for those seeking a break in the French countryside.

Magical week in the French Countryside
We are frequent renters of homes for our vacations and I have to say this place was one the best we've experienced. The location was perfect if what you are looking for is peace and quiet-yet still want to be close to quaint small towns, and larger supermarkets and tourist spots. The house itself is charming and very well equipped. The bedrooms in particular were so comfortable and cozy. My children loved the large yard and the walking paths in the area-especially the area they referred to as "The Enchanted Forest." Overall assessment, it was a magical week and we were sad to leave. Camilla was extremely helpful and everything is well detailed in terms of directions for building fires, using the cable TV and the local attractions. We were there for the week between Christmas and New Year and the fireplaces and space heaters kept the house sufficiently warm and we were lucky enough to have some good weather to enjoy most of the outdoor features. We would love to return to experience it in another season as well!

Didnt want to leave this enchanting spot!
We arrived at the house just as the sun was setting onto the stunning pigeonnaire and gardens. It's so beautiful there at that time of day! The house is like something from a fairy tale, surrounded by fields with wildflowers. There is a large comfortable living room with a big open fireplace and tasteful comfortable furniture. The kitchen is well stocked and opens onto a shaded patio where you can have all your meals. The house and gardens are very well looked after and have such a great energy. We had a full moon when we were staying there and the sight of it rising up above the hill was one I will never forget. You do need a car as it's ten minutes drive to Caylus and there are lots of picturesque villages to visit in the immediate area. I was there with my sister, our husbands and our Mum and all of us loved the place. I would like to go back in Winter and sit by that gorgeous fireplace! Camilla couldn't have been more helpful with the questions we had before we arrived and answered all our emails promptly (and let me tell you there were A LOT of questions!). All in all a great place to stay with family and friends! Kelly P - Los Angeles, USA

Charming, comfortable, well-located place to stay.
The house has much character, and has been tastefully restored and furnished for a delightful, comfortable stay. I loved having it as home base for two weeks. (The weather was also spectacular!). Camilla is prompt and pleasant to communicate with, and was very proactive in providing suggestions to help me enjoy the area - which I did, very much. Although the house is very peaceful, in a rural location, it is only 10 minutes to the busy little village of Caylus, and 15 - 20 minutes to several other lovely villages. You do need a car, but it doesn't take long to get to lots of places worth exploring. I was at the house alone for most of my stay, and felt very safe. Highly recommended!

Pure relaxation
We've spent two relaxing weeks in this lovely cottage in August with two kids and a dog. The cottage is beautifully furnished with some great antique finds - I was tempted to put some in the boot of the car to take home ;-).The pool and garden are very well kept; we enjoyed lounging by the pool, swinging in the hammock and the occasional competitive game of table tennis. The cottage is very remote so a bit of driving is involved to explore the area but the towns are stunning and the kayaking in Saint Antonin was great fun. The owner Camilla has been a pleasure to deal with, she responded quickly to any emails despite the time difference. We can definitely highly recommend the farm house!!

The Pigionier is a very comfortable and cousy family holidayhome
The Pigionier is a very comfortable and cousy family holidayhome with a very well equipted kitchen, a cosy livingroom, three sufficient bathrooms and two separate, spacious sleeping rooms. Everything you want from a holidayhome is there. The garden is large and has four spaces for leisure and relax, a nice swimming pool and lots of outdoor furniture. The views are nice and the location is very tranquile but not isolated. Caylus and Saint Antonin Val Noble are the two villages nearby where you can find all the shops and restaurants you need. These towns are however not on walking distance, you need a car to get there. But the roads are good so there is no problem. During our stay we faced only one problem and that is the amount of flies inside the house and in the garden. Mayby it was the time of the year (july), but there were moments during the day and night that to many of these little buggers were active and spoiled our sunbathing, reading sessions and outdoor eatings. Also there were many bees and wasps around the swimming pool with was a bit annoying during swimming.

Very pictoresque, comfortable and peaceful
This is a beautifully and very tastefully restored old farm house in a very peaceful location. It is very well equiped, nice furniture, comfortable beds, nice linens, kitchen appliances: this is a real home. There are 2 separate upstairs: 1 leading to a room with a queen bed and en-suite bathroom (perfect for a couple); the other with a queen bed room, a kids room (2 small singles, so kids of 12-13 years max), a bathroom and another queen bed on the landing at the top of staircase (so this works well for a family with kids). There is a further queen bed in the living room: perfect for a teenager (or2) to spend the night. There also is a full bath on the ground floor between kitchen and living room. You can spend days on the property sitting on the different patios, by the pool, underneath the "gazebo" enjoying the surroundings, views, sounds while spending time with family or friends. The surrounding country side is equally spectacular and lends itself to hikes or biking (if in shape: it is rolling up&down). The nearby historic towns (25-45 min away: St Antonin Noble Val, St Cirq La Popie, Bruniquel, Penne etc, etc...) are equally spectacular, well worth the visit and have great restaurants serving local gastronomy.

A great House, Hollywood detail meets French Charm.
Dealing with Camilla, the owner, was a pleasure from start to finish. Her career involves property and Hollywood, and she certainly brings that experience to bear in how she presents her beautiful French home for her guests. Everything was as described in the description, and the house was fabulously appointed throughout, mixing the most modern appliances and facilities, with the great character of the building. The location is truly private, and the peaceful ambience is apparent as soon as we stopped the engine after a long drive. The house was very very clean, with a lovely welcome pack, and ice already made up for that first important relaxing drink. It is located in one of the most scenic parts of France, so gave us the opportunity to explore out and about, as well as spending time by the pool. A very useful welcome pack gives all the details you will need. The Pigionere is indeed stunning, and we were tickled to buy a postcard in Cahors with its picture on. I wholly recommend as a great place to stay in France, and am sure all who follow us will enjoy a great holiday.

A beautiful restful haven
We were lucky enough to spend 2 weeks here and we had a fantastic stay at the farmhouse and were so sad to leave. The house is exceptionally well equipped and comfortable without losing any of its immense character. The beds and pillows were really very comfortable as was the day bed in the library. The location is simply stunning, rolling fields, beautiful views and tranquility. You really do feel comfortable and relaxed here and was just what we needed to recharge our batteries. The pigeoniere is truly magnificent and a real feature of the wonderful gardens. We particularly enjoyed watching the sunsets and deer in the field and the hawks flying overhead whilst we sipped French fizz. There are ample places to sit and take in the beauty and peace and quiet. We did venture for days out and meals and there are some very pretty villages and good restaurants we visited nearby. The walks, particularly by the source and old monastery, are not to be missed. The owners were very helpful and responded to any queries or to provide directions to find the gems very quickly. The information provided was very accurate and informative. We also found the French caretakers very helpful and pleasant. I would most certainly recommend this property to anyone seeking a relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings in a magical place. We are already planning to return.

Comfort, charm, and history in story book stone farmhouse.
Four gals and I stayed here the last week of September, 2013.,each having her own space. We were completely charmed by this ancient stone building turned into a sumptuous home away from home. The photos do not do it justice. The layout of the large grounds, and sitting areas provide for gathering together or for experiencing quiet and solitude, as desired. Comfortable cushions are provided for all furniture and lovely umbrellas for shade where needed. The interior is furnished with lovely and comfortable furniture and the kitchen is absolutely complete. The wood burning fireplace set the scene for cozy evenings with warmth and a comforting glow. The house is well located for day trips to historic and beautiful villages and to the prehistoric caves at Pech Merle which are a must. The beddng is sumptuous and so welcome after a long day of sightseeing and tasting of the great local wines. We took long leisurely walks in the evenings along old dirt roads, even discovering the old Monastery. We highly recommend this lovely, well equipped home. The owners were most accommodating and did everything to welcome us. We would love to go back again and again.

Country Calm With the Best of French Culture Nearb
We followed clear directions to find a spotlessly clean property, exactly as advertised. The kitchen was very well furnished and "user-friendly" for those meals where we ate in, with provisions from nearby marchés. There are also very good restaurants nearby. Country walks along the farm roads were a pleasure for us and our dog, followed by a swim for the humans in the pool. Lots of good nooks for a quiet read - or siesta! Those planning a stay at La Pigonniere should plan for any very tall people (6' plus) to use the master bedroom, as the guest bedroom ceiling levels reflect the days when people were shorter. This was not a problem for us or for the couple accompanying us, however. We would definitely return.

Beautiful property!
Myself, my husband, our 12 year old son, my mother and father have just returned from a wonderful stay at this property. If you are after a chilled out, home-from-home stay in south-west France, this is the place to go! The house has been decorated and furnished beautifully with the finishing touches (e.g. crisp linen and an abundance of towels) giving you the luxury of feeling you are at home! The setting is amazing, with rolling hills surrounding the grounds, just stunning! No expense has been spared at making the most out of the property and making a stay here out of this world!

About the host

Host profile image
Cameron and I both live in Los Angeles and we work in the film business which is exciting, but also stressful. We love traveling and seeing the world, and we love France in particular. My parents always brought my twin sister and I to France on holidays (I was born in London) and so France very special to me. Cameron admitted he's always dreamt of living in France - so we've made it happen! We rent the house out to others in the high season and enjoy it during the other times of year, and our children visit as time allows them...We feel that we have made possible the seemingly impossible, by finding the way to divide our time between France and Los Angeles.

Why they chose this property

When Cameron and I decided to find a house in France to re create a family 'nest' ,
It needed to feel like a true family home - not only a vacation rental.
We looked at a huge amount of houses on the internet, and 40 personally, before falling in love with this beautiful gem of a house.
The position of the house is perfect, facing out over stunning gardens and fields. The pool is perfectly situated, close enough to take food and drinks , and we have now converted it to salt water and it is heated through the summer months. The Pigeonnier is absolutely beautiful at any time of day, and can be seen from the kitchen and master bedroom. The stone barbeque is situated in the front garden close to the house, which is in a small and quiet hamlet with friendly neighbors. We really feel blessed to now own this treasure.

What makes this property unique

We discovered that the Tarn et Garonne is so un-spoilt and the stone buildings and Bastide villages so beautiful that we fell in love with the South West of France. We wanted to feel as if we are in another country - not in Los Angeles or London, where we were respectively born. This house is charming and unspoilt. The previous owners left all the old beams and stones untouched, and so we could easily plan our sympathetic restoration, while keeping the old features predominant. The peace and tranquility at this house is almost magical. To sleep there is so restorative it's as if there are fairies at work! Hard to describe in words but when you visit you will see...
The act of opening the old shutters, the trip to the boulangerie, the afternoon siesta and then the walk to the magical monastery are all part of why we are here, and we love it.
