About this property

Anole - Beautiful North Shore Views, Pool!

Anole is a 4-bedroom, 4 1/2-bath villa that is located in Cinnamon Bay, surrounded by St. John’s National Park and about 600 feet above the soft white sands of Cinnamon Beach. This is considered to be one of St. John’s finest neighborhoods and the homes in this upscale locality tend to be pricey and distinctive. Although there are other homes in the neighborhood, the privacy of Anole is superb and this setting is the very definition of a peaceful, quiet and away-from-it-all island hideaway. The view is absolutely gorgeous and includes Tobago and Little Tobago Islands, Jost Van Dyke, Tortola, and other islands floating on a sea that continuously changes colors throughout the day. Cinnamon Bay and Trunk Bay lie below you and offer excellent swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, wind surfing, and stress free relaxation on a world class beach. It's a 15 minute drive into or from Cruz Bay and the last 1/2 mile is a bumpy dirt road intended to discourage tourists from wandering into your very private and quiet neighborhood.

Anole is built on two levels. The great room and two bedrooms/baths, plus a half bath are on the upper level, and two more bedrooms/baths and the pool are on the lower level. You park on the upper level and as you enter the great room the first thing you see is the gorgeous view of Cinnamon Bay. The kitchen and interior dining are on the right side, while the living area occupies the left half of the great room. A tiled sundeck is off the great room, and exterior stairs off the sundeck lead to the pool and the lower bedrooms. The lower bedrooms also offer lots of privacy, with a covered deck located between them. The pool sits in a very private, lushly landscaped spot on the west (left) side of the house and can be accessed by stairs from the house or the entrance area.

The four oversize bedrooms (305 sq/ft) are all located to insure excellent privacy from each other. The upper level east (right) bedroom has a king bed while the other three bedrooms have twin beds that convert to kings. The two lower level bedrooms are accessed by exterior stairs from the upper deck or the pool deck. Each bedroom has a lovely 150 sq ft fully screened porch with wicker furniture, and each bedroom has a telephone and a tiled bath and shower.

The great room has a cathedral ceiling, handsome stonework, tiled floors, and a 30 x 8 foot wall of screened glass doors that offer marvelous views from everywhere in the room. The living area is furnished with comfortable wicker and rattan furniture, cable TV, a stereo CD and wireless internet. The interior dining table and the dining table on the upper deck both seat 6-8. There is also a table and chairs on the pool deck.
The kitchen is in the rear of the great room but it also shares the gorgeous view. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a refrigerator, gas range, dishwasher and microwave oven. In the back of the kitchen there is a pantry and a washer/dryer and a gas grill is on the upper deck.

Note: A 4 wheel drive vehicle is advisable for Anole. The Anole neighborhood roads are unpaved, and the road conditions vary dependent on the weather. The roads are not dangerous, but can be bumpy due to periods of heavy rainfall during rainy season.

Simply Breathtaking Beauty
If anything, the pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this place -- the house, the location, the spectacular view. It took a little while to adjust to the lack of air conditioning, but it is built in a way to maximize fresh air flow. The pool is also a nice way to cool down. The kitchen is well stocked and there is plenty of room for everyone to have their own space as well as to congregate. We ate inside and outside. It is somewhat tricky to find, but that is also part of its charm.

Family Reunion on St John
Great location with a spectacular view of Cinnamon Bay. Four bedrooms with baths were perfect for four couples. Each bedroom had a view and a screened porch. The grand room had a vaulted ceiling and was the perfect setting for family meals around a large glass table. We enjoyed hiking on nearby trails and snorkeling along thje reefs and beaches.

Unbeatable View
I usually stay in Coral Bay so this was a real treat. The view/location cannot be beat. The architecture was charming and the landscaping made it feel like we lived in a palm tree paradise. Be sure to rent a Jeep as the drive up the mountain is steep. But very worth it.

Absolutely Spectacular View!
The view from Anole is the highlight of this property! Stunning and spectacular! Great way to view God's amazing handiwork! House is beautiful. Many have said it already, but the drive to Anole is tricky to say the least. We had a 2-door Jeep Wrangler and 4-door Bronco. The Wrangler was the best for the rough roads and hairpin turns. Definitely DO NOT try to bring a larger sized SUV. The ocean breezes were wonderful and birds singing in the trees were beautiful. We did not realize this ahead of time, but most houses on St. John, including Anole, are not air conditioned. We were there in July, so we were probably warmer than the other months. It took some adjusting! There are a lot of fans that help to cool the air. If you attract mosquitoes, be sure to bring bug spray. The mosquito nets over the beds were very helpful.

Fantastic trip
What a wonderful stay we had! We’ve been to St. John several times and could not truly anticipate how gorgeous the views were from this spot. With a young traveler with us it was so convenient to come home to the pool for a break and still enjoy the beauty around us. We had plenty of space and enjoyed the layout of the house. We lost power on the island a couple of times during the week, the second time for an extended period. We would just ask the hosts to consider purchasing a generator, as others around us had, for those unexpected times. If traveling to St. John with a larger group again, we would certainly stay again!

Great Week
We have visited St. John over a half dozen times and have stayed in villas all over the island. This was by far the best location and view of them all. Pros: The view at this villa is absolutely spectacular. In addition, the property manager was very helpful and efficient. The property was very clean and the self-check-in and check-out procedures were easy and convenient. The beds and furniture were very comfortable and the internet was fast and reliable. Challenges: We have seen some pretty exciting driveways on St. John (and we have one at home), but this one takes the prize. The decks are fairly weathered and there are some spots with exposed and rusting nail heads. It was not an issue for the adults, but if you are traveling with children be prepared to remind them to put their shoes on often. Lastly, there are no glass windows in the bedrooms and the screens are a bit warped in places. Although the biggest gaps are sealed with duct tape, there were still quite a few openings. We noticed that in the pictures and brought pop-up mosquito nets for the beds, which worked perfectly.

Gorgeous view, very hilly access
Spacious, comfortable home, but starting to show its age a bit. Just some minor repairs and it would be good as new. Extremely hilly access to get there and a very tight turn into the driveway if you have a larger vehicle (i.e. - Dodge Durango or other larger SUV). If we had a vehicle, such as the Jeeps you see everywhere on the island, I feel this would not have been an issue. Be aware that access to the two bedrooms downstairs is by outside staircase only - no interior access. We had all adults, but people with children may not find this optimal. Electric shutters to close off the bedroom archways to the screened in patios were missing in several bedrooms. Overall, a lovely home with plenty of space for everyone to stretch out and enjoy the unbeatable views of the north shore. Great sized pool with built in loungers. Updated kitchen, and 3 of the 4 baths were updated. Super comfortable mattress in the master bedroom (just off the kitchen).

Best location on island
Somewhere near the top of the hill overlooking Cinnamon Bay, Anole is the largest low profile eco integrated villa with everything 2 families need for a fabulous stay in a tropical climate. Mornings/evenings one awakes/sleeps to the sound of birds and tree frogs and rainbows abound from the deck view. Out of the 7 days we were there I don't think there was one without at least one rainbow. The property also has a pool, though you won't need it as 8 beaches on the North shore of the island are all within a 5 mile drive or less (I'll review the South shore beaches in a different post :) ). The property management company staff met us at the Red Hook ferry, escorted us to the villa and gave us a full tour on arrival. They also helped fix a clothes washer glitch within 24 hrs. They are transparent, responsive and not intrusive. The only "negative" thing about Anole is that they're booked solid most of the year so if thinking of staying there one must look 4-5 month in advance. Don't fret though, you can make many trips to the St John national park and enjoy every one of them. Just make Anole your last trip because after that you'll have a hard time staying anywhere else.

Breathtaking Views
The view is an absolute dream , clean house ~ picture does not do justice ~ peaceful and tucked away . However we had a few minor issues with the water at times there was no water . I had to reach out to the rental owners , they did send someone out twice to fix however for the length of our stay the problem was consistent . We were Blessed my hubby is a handyman and could get it going , but be prepared if you wake up and want a shower that might not happen right away - want to wash you hands you might have to get the system going . Other than that it was a wonderful vacation with lots of memories ❤️ I would rent this place again!

Amazing view and pool.
Really nice! Amazing view and really fun pool for the kids. Only downside was the neighbors who had REALLY loud booming music 11 pm - 3 am. That was bad. Super bad.

Get away from it all
The Villa had everything you could ask for and was well appointed. The views high up in the hills within the National Park were more breathtaking than the photos!

Great Place
We were impressed by how well the house was equipped. This was especially true of the kitchen; everything we could possibly have needed was there. There were plenty of towels, both bath and beach. The view from the deck was spectacular. The Caribbean Villas staff were very nice and did an excellent job of orienting us to the villa and the island. thanks to all of you.

WOW! What a setting!!
We have been vacationing on St John for many years because we love everything about this beautiful island. Despite more than 7 trips to St John we have never stayed anywhere on the North Shore, mostly because it is out of our price range. Anole was priced below other Cinnamon Bay homes, and for the six of us the price was quite reasonable, so we gave it a try and what a good decision that was! Usually when we pay less you get less, but not with this home. The view was better than the photos show and the serenity and privacy was the best we have ever experienced, other than on a sail boat far off the coast. I don't think I have ever been more relaxed and refreshed after a vacation. As for the house it had everything we needed. Especially the bedrooms with their screened in sitting areas. It was so peaceful and relaxing that some days we never left the house. Cruz Bay has a lot of superb restaurants but dining on Anoles deck was our favorite. What a total memorizing view this home has! If you have never stayed on the North Shore of St John I highly recommend Anole for an affordable and heavenly North Shore vacation.
