My Stay

The property was absolutely gorgeous. Tucked away, quiet, rustic and elegant. Everything we needed was already there and we got what we wanted most, which was peace surrounded by nature. And the fact it was hand built out of salvaged materials made the experience more precious for us.

Convenient Location

We had a horse show at nearby Mullet Hall. Place worked out well. Stairs/ladder to loft are super steep - but overall quaint place, was very clean and convenient

Lovely retreat!

This quaint property was awesome. Comfortable, clean, private, and had everythinng we needed. The neighbor's rooster crowing once in a while added to the caribbean vibe. The king bed in the loft was so comfortable. If you are particulary tall or unsteady on your feet, be mindful that the stairs to the bedroom loft are steep and a little narrow.

Great weekend place

We stayed here for the weekend to attend a graduation and be near our daughter’s place on John’s Island. The house is very unique but comfortable and clean. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked. We would have liked ac power in the outdoor area. There were quests in the school bus behind us but it was never an issue. We would definitely rent this home again.

Cute cabin

Need to be better informed of LADDER, not steps going to bedroom. Good for a very short stay.

Tiny, but mighty!

What a refreshing place to stay. The property is in a great location and is peaceful. It is close enough to downtown and other areas of interest. Communication with the owner, Kris, was effortless. I highly recommend staying in this lovely home!

Better than the description

We had a wonderful stay on John's Island. The property was better than described. If you like a place with a lot of character this is it. It is located in the middle of a neighborhood but you feel like you are in a remote location. It is close to the beaches and downtown Charleston. We loved it and would definitely stay again.

Charleston Holiday

Wonderful small flat tucked away on Johns Island, with easy access to downtown Charleston. We were in Charleston for a few days celebrating our anniversary and attending some events at the Spoleto festival. We found it by searching on-line alternatives to avoid congested (and pricey) downtown Charleston hotels. We were not disappointed! We found the place clean, comfortable and quiet. The upstairs loft has a king size bed with one of the most comfortable mattresses we've slept on anywhere! The owners were responsive to our inquiries before and during our stay. Highly recommended; with a few caveats... There were a couple of minor points during our stay, and one more significant one. Minor inconveniences: there was no working can opener and no bottle opener (we have traveled all over the world, and we improvised so not that big of a deal). We had a bit of trouble with the French door front entrance. We're used to the kind with a sliding lock that secures one side; I accidentally opened the fixed side the first morning and could not figure out how to secure it back in place. This required a call to the owner to learn the trick to secure the door. It was absurdly simple once he explained, and we felt pretty stupid having to bother him. A brief note on the door or with check-in information would have helped, and avoided our embarrassment and having to disturb the owner. More significant: we knew there would be stairs, but they are steeper than we anticipated, and a bit tricky to navigate. We had to take extra care going down, especially to get to the bathroom at night. "Older" individuals, anyone with creaky knees, a bit out of shape, or requirements for nocturnal trips to the bathroom, should be aware in advance and may need to take this into consideration. We hope these comments are helpful to the owners and anyone considering a booking. We really enjoyed our stay, and recommend the place to anyone looking for alternative accommodation in the Charleston area.

An amazing stay!

My husband and I spent five days at Kris and Carol’s tiny house and had such a great time! This little house has everything you’d need, is immaculate, unique, and in a great location! Perfect distance from Folly Beach, Charleston, and many other destinations. Traffic can backup on the island, but we never minded. Grocery stores are nearby, as are other necessities. Would stay again a million times over at any property owned by Kris and Carol. Thanks for the great time!

Beautiful tiny house, excellent place to stay

We had a wonderful stay in Kris and Carol's tiny house. It is very spacious inside with an incredibly confortable king size bed. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen and relaxing at the fire pit! The communication with our hosts was easy and we had a great time visiting Johns Island and the beaches nearby!

About the host

Hosted by Kris and Carol Doyle

Host profile image
Carol and I have been married going on 2 years now. We live and met in Columbia, SC, 3 years ago when Carol relocated to Ft. Jackson, and I moved there for a new job in the corporate world. Carol is on active duty as Captain in the Army, while I travel for work frequently. We currently have two dogs, Sir Charles and Sir Edward that we care for deeply.

Why they chose this property

Carol and I just recently purchased this property as our weekend getaway from Columbia, SC, along with it being the island that Carol grew up on. When we are not relaxing and enjoying the peaceful property ourselves, we want to share the tranquility with others as they visit the Charleston area. While this is our first time renting out a property on HomeAway, we fully believe in providing the best experience possible during your time at our place. We look forward to hearing from you!

What makes this property unique

Carol and I love the entire property, from the how the house is constructed by recycled materials, to the simplicity of tiny living, to the beautiful outdoor space to relax in.
