About this property

Sittin' on dock on the bay'

A lovely 3 bedroom cabin nestled in the pines on a large lot. It is a tranquil, serene setting for a family or families to enjoy a vacation. Sleeps 8 maximum. There is a large family room with a vaulted ceiling looking out at the bay. The cabin has an modern eat-in kitchen or you may barbecue outside under the stars while the kids make some 'smores' at the fire pit. There is a deck and a screened in porch. Our bathroom is a 3/4 with a shower along with a clothes washer and dryer...if you really get the urge!!!!!
Lake Ada is a 1200 acre lake that offers all water sports and great fishing. There is a public access ramp just a five minute walk away and you can tie your boat up at the dock. We have a sandy beach that slopes gently into the lake, ideal for small children.
There is over 30 miles of state forest located directly behind the cabin, which provides excellent hiking, dirt biking, a nice stroll in the woods as well as privacy.
At night, you may sit out at the end of the dock and hope to get a view of the Northern Lights or look up to see the Bald Eagle high over the bay.

Thumbs up for “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay”

The cabin sits back in a quiet bay on Lake Ada, one of north central Minnesota’s most beautiful, clearest, cleanest lakes. My daughter and her family had a great time. Water sports, fishing, swimming, family time - their stay checked all the boxes. The property owner went above and beyond when we had questions. We would highly recommend “Dock of the Bay” for a genuine up north experience!

Family-friendly vacation!

Our family was thrilled to spend a few days relaxing at pristine Lake Ada. There was a great space for our young kids to swim, as well as sand toys and extra life jackets. We roasted marshmallows around the campfire at night and enjoyed toys, games and DVDs when a storm rolled in! Billy was a considerate, communicative and responsive host. The cabin was clean and ready for us, but could use a deep clean. Our feedback would be to install smoke & carbon monoxide detectors for safety, and to invest in new pillows & linens for guests.

Cabin needs work, Lake is great

Lake Ada is a beautiful lake with lots of fish, loons & great swimming. The cabin was dirty, outdated & cluttered. We washed all dishes & utensils before use. I wiped down countertops & tables, especially after finding the worms living under the toaster. The oven has never been cleaned, & the stove, toaster & microwave had grease all over them. The windows were so dirty you could hardly see the lake. Only 1 bedroom had a queen bed, but the frame squeaked loudly with any move. The bedding was from the 70's, & the whole place smelled musty. The dock also needs help, big tripping hazard.

Great place to relax

This is the second time we have had a wonderful stay at the this cabin. My brother and I rent it and stay with our families. It has three comfortably sized bedrooms and a nice big living space. Our favorite place is the screened-in porch- best place to have your coffee in the morning. It had everything we needed and the owner is always super helpful and responsive. We will definitely rent this property again.

Great family get away!

We had a great weekend! The property was perfect for our family of seven. Billy was very accommodating and very easy to work with. The kids had a great time swimming, tubing and kayaking. Fishing was good too! Very secluded and quiet.

Relaxation Haven

I took the family up for a week and had a great and relaxing time. Weather was perfect 50-80 every day with a couple of showers but they don’t seem to last long. We caught plenty of fish, mostly bass, a few northern. Crappies were a little harder to find but found a nice place to catch them in the evenings. Cabin was very comfortable and secluded, back in a small bay off the larger part of lake. You can relax and listen to the loons all day long. Eagles are fun to watch, and there is a pine tree around the corner on Little Lake Ada that has two eagle nest in the same tree. Everyone on the lake was friendly, couldn’t pass another boat where they didn’t wave. Great place to kick back and relax. Looking forward to going back

Relaxing Stay

The property had plenty of space for our family with 3 bedrooms and 2 sofa sleepers. We fished off of the dock and brought our boat to fish on the lake (boat launch is only 1/2 mile away from property). The fire pit was great for all of us to sit around and catch up and relax. Full kitchen and gas grill was a giant plus for our family meals. Overall this was an excellent get away and I would tell my other family members to check this place out.

Family Fishing Weekend

We have a father-son fishing weekend tradition we have been keeping for a few years now. This year, we stayed at "sittin on the dock on the bay" on Lake Ada, and it was awesome. We couldn't have asked for more. We caught fish all weekend, including bass, walleye, sunfish, crappies, and northern. The cabin accommodated 6 of us quite nicely, and had all the amenities we would need for a fishing weekend (good kitchen, fire pit, dock access, grill, plenty of room to sleep, hangout, and play). Additional pluses were the loons, bald eagles, beautiful landscape, and nice neighbors. This really was a great place to stay.

Fantastic cabin in the north woods

We wanted something different than our normal midwest lake vacation. This cabin in Lake Country Minnesota is a wonderful place to stay. There's a great screened in porch, and plenty of room in the cabin. And it was everything we'd hoped in the way of loons, osprey, eagles and fun fishing / boating on beautiful Lake Ada. Highly recommended!!

Wish we could stay longer

We had 10 people up at the cabin for four days, and although four of us slept in the living room (we were well aware this would be the case!), everyone enjoyed every minute of it. Lake Ada was a perfect size for our rented pontoon -- we fished sunnies and small bass or pulled the five year old on a tube behind the boat for hours. The cabin was well equipped and the kayak was an appreciated bonus. Everything was easy and the owner was more than gracious when we got lost on the way there. Highly recommend for the price and flexibility. Hopefully we'll get a chance to go back next year!

Peaceful Getaway

My wife and I planned a reunion of our college friends here and we had a blast. The lake is nice for swimming and the spot is very quiet nestled nicely in the middle of a wooded area off of a dead end road. The best part about the cabin itself is the large open living area, this was perfect for relaxing and catching up with friends and family. Couple this with a large lake front area and it makes for a perfect break from the daily grind. Worth every penny and then some!

Beautiful spot for a northern retreat

We had a lovely time with the family at the cabin on Lake Ada. Beautiful lot nestled right on beautiful Lake Ada. Wonderful doc with clear water/shoreline. We enjoyed a lot of time out on the boat catching A LOT of bass, even a few Northern, Walleye and some pan fish also. We spent our evenings out by the fire-pit making a few s'mores and listening to the Loons. The cabin was perfect for our family needs, open concept and great screened in porch came in very handy. The owner(s) were a delight to work with also. I would bring my family to this place again in a heartbeat!

Amazing Time

My family had the most amazing time. The cabin is perfect! It has a larger family seating area, clean bedrooms and huge kitchen with amenities The lake is very clean, the kids loved it. . Beautiful rustic lot with fire pit and sounds of the loons. Best part was no internet and no TV!. Cell service was spotty but then we were not there to stay in touch with reality!

About the host

We live in St. Louis Park and have four sons. We have been coming up to The Lake for over 20 years. My wife and her family have been coming up to The Lake for over 50 years. It is an ideal setting for kids growing up and adults to relax. There is good fishing, water sports and the Bald Eagles gliding over head looking for a meal. You are far removed from the hub-bub of the Twin Cities and much closer to the Northern Lights!!!!

Why they chose this property

My wife and her family had a cabin just down the road from ours, where they spent their summers. The family originated the July 4th boat parade, which has now become a lake tradition. They have been on the lake for over 50 years. When you come up you will see why.

What makes this property unique

You have the lake in front of you and the woods behind you. The cabin is the second home from the end on a cul de sac. There are no cabins behind us, just the woods. So it makes for a very quiet setting. If someone comes up North Bay Drive, they live there. North Bay Drive is really just a driveway to the cabins on the right. At night, sit out on the end of the dock and watch the Milky Way and if you get lucky..the Northern Lights.
