About this property

North Pole Cabin Retreat

Our North Pole Cabin Retreat is a great place to come for a day, a week, or a month or more. A person can experience life in Alaska in comfort. Our log cabin was built in 2002 and has had many guests over the years. We provide housing year round, and winter or summer the cabin is warm, dry, and safe. Running water is a must, as are clean comfortable beds. The cabin has two queen beds, kitchenette, full private bath, BBQ and picnic area outside. Parking is nearby. We are only 2 miles from grocery, dentist, medical, gas stations, gift shops, dining establishments, churches and bars. Although you are close to the comforts of everyday living, it will seem as if you are a long way out in the woods. We are located in a private, wooded property with a waterway flowing by. In summer there are many nesting ducks. There are many wild flowers growing all around, as well as hanging baskets of flowers we plant for your enjoyment.

Our host, North Pole Nancy, was fantastic! We had such a great time at the property. There was plenty of wood for the fire pit, full propane grill, and also a charcoal grill. We hosted several people on a Saturday night and had a great time! We would love to stay here again.

Amazing host and an awesome location
This place is perfect if you just want no-nonsense accommodations, an incredibly friendly and informative host, and easy access to any of the reasons you might be visiting Fairbanks. Nancy's advice helped us see the Northern Lights at some amazing locations and get the fullest experience out of our 4 day trip. The bed is also EXTREMELY comfortable, possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever had while traveling. The kitchen is a little cramped but totally workable if you can work in a small space. I highly recommend staying here if you are going to visit Fairbanks.

Cabin in the Woods
Nancy is a most accommodating host and sent texts with information about the area and places we might enjoy going and things we might enjoy doing nearby. We found the cabin clean and adequate for our needs; there was a small kitchenette with a table and chairs, clean bathroom and a queen sized bed. Outside there are a couple of chairs, a grill and a firepit area.

We had a great stay at this cabin. It kept us warm even though it was -40F. You will find everything you need in it. Our host Nancy was super helpful and gave us toe warmers and tips for things we could do. The area is very quiet but easy to access by car. We would definitely book this cabin again to experience the area in a different season.

Small and simple
Nancy is a very pro-active host and she gave many recommendations on activities todo. The place is small and cozy, a perfect winter getaway. The house was at good temperature even though outside was -40F. Nancy also provided an option to park close to the house and she would bring electric hookup to keep car warm. A must stay place to relax and enjoy the winter.

Cozy home base to explore interior Alaska and hunt for the Northern Lights!
Our family of four stayed in this cabin for 6 nights in the heart of winter to explore Alaska and hunt for the Northern Lights. We were so happy we stayed at this cabin. The cabin is located in a great location where you feel like you're in a true winter wonderland in a very quiet, wooded area but within 3 minutes of a Safeway and several restaurants (Wendy's, Taco Bell, a great tamale stand, etc...). Our main goal was to see the Northern Lights, and this cabin is located a short and easy 7-10-minute drive to Chena Lake (depending on where on the lake you go). Chena Lake is an incredible place to view the Northern Lights. This same lake is where Rod's Alaskan Guide Service does their ice fishing and dog sledding Northern Lights tours. The cabin is also well furnished, well supplied, and was very cozy for all of us, including our two younger teenage daughters. The heater worked great, had running water (which we learned is not a given for rural places in Alaska), and we never ran out of hot water. Taking hot showers was a huge plus when you're living in -30 degree temps. The owner (Northpole Nancy) was very responsive before and during our stay and we maintained excellent communication with her. She is also extremely knowledgeable of the area and provided us with great tips during our stay.

Absolutely loved it!
Stayed here for 5 days during Christmas time. The cabin was in a beautiful area sort of tucked away behind the trees which I just LOVED. You cross a pretty creek getting to it, and there’s a little coffee place RIGHT across from that. Even though it has that nice tucked away & secluded feel, it is still super close to everything in North Pole, which was a nice convenience. Only about 20-30 mins from Fairbanks, and about 1hr 15 min to Chena Hot Springs resort. Nancy herself was also really friendly and helpful. She was pretty flexible with my booking as well, which I really appreciated. She shoveled a walkway for us when we truly wouldn’t have minded walking in the snow, provided lots of brochures in the cabin to check out, and was super quick and helpful in her responses. She was friendly enough to check in on us & make sure we were always good. Overall, an AMAZING stay! 10/10 would recommend.

The perfect birthday in Alaska!
I booked my stay at Nancy’s after doing some reset about the area and noticing my initial accommodations were about an hour’s drive from everything I wanted to do. Nancy was super communicative from my initial inquiry until I left, offering info about local places to try and catch the Northern Lights. I was not disappointed. :) The cabin is in a back corner of Nancy’s property and has all the basics. There’s a coffee machine (which saved my life while trying to catch the lights on 4 hours of sleep), dishes, towels, extra pillows, books about Alaska and the Aurora Borealis and so much more! I ventured up to the loft area and while it it quite spacious, I opted to stay on the ground level. Overall, my stay at Nancy’s was the perfect way to celebrate my 30th birthday and I am so thankful for her hospitality. I would love to come back in the summer and experience Alaska and Nancy’s place.

Hidden Gem
This cute little cabin was comfortable for my husband and I to stay at for 7 days. Everything was cleanmwhen we arrived and our host even came in to tidy up a few days into our stay. The pond in back of the cabin gave us a nice view of the ducks swimming around during the day. The location is central to grocery stores and not too far from downtown Fairbanks for some nice dinners. The only drawback is that the second bed is located in a loft that has a steep staircase. Because we are both senior citizens and did not want to deal with a potential injury on our vacation, we did not use it, so we just cuddled up on the bed on the main floor. All in all, it was terrific and made our 25th Anniversary quite special.

We enjoyed our entire experience. Cabin is fully furnished and very clean! If you don’t find the pamphlet in the cabin that helps you decide what there is to do in the area, Nancy has MANY suggestions. Nancy was very helpful & understanding with any questions I asked. This cabin is a true Alaska experience (but has running water & indoor toilet)!😃

About the host

Host profile image
I was born in the Alaskan Territory and raised in this area, the daughter of early Alaskan Pioneers. My father is the first civilian to drive the Alaska Highway and he entered Fairbanks in November 1943 after a long trip up the Alcan as it was being built. He met my mother, who was here, working as a flight instructor. The two of them flew, together and separately here in Alaska. Flying became a lifetime venture, with my father, retiring in 1980 after an accident-free career in public air transportation in Alaska airspace. I, myself became a licensed pilot, but opted for a life on the ground, raising my sons and now a grandson. I enjoy earth bound things and am deeply rooted here in the 'frozen north'. As a child, I rode around with my father in a 1925 Model T Ford truck. Even now, it still runs, and I drive it for the enjoyment of the general public. Pictured here is me, and the old truck.

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with this place because it is such a 'retreat' and so 'Alaskan'. I love the log home look and feel, and I enjoy the wooded, private environment here. The water nearby is peaceful and such a great place for the ducks to nest and raise their young. It is a peaceful place to wake up each morning and to go to bed each night. You can hear the birds singing and the chatter of squirrels, and the sounds of nature are not drowned out by the sounds of the nearby highway.

What makes this property unique

Available year round with comfort, warmth, privacy, and convenience. Our North Pole Cabin is located in a peaceful setting, great for tourists, and also great for folks working or visiting in the area. We are 9 minutes from the Eielson Air Force Base and 20 minutes from the Ft Wainwright Army Base. We are 7 minutes from the Oil Refinery, and 20 minutes from downtown Fairbanks. If you are WORKING, TOURING, or VISITING FAMILY our North Pole Cabin is a great choice for many reasons, including having a memorable 'cabin experience' in ALASKA!!
