About this property

Welcome to tranquility at Shady River Cabin. We are located in Ivanhoe, Virginia on the New River. The New River is in the front and the New River Trail is in the back. Our cabin is very family friendly. We have satellite TV and WIFI. There is a great room with kitchen, bath and two bedrooms on the upper floor. On the lower lever is a recreation basement with a bath. There is a ping pong table in the basement. We have an upper deck that is covered and a lower patio that is covered.

LOVE. THIS. PLACE!

Charming, spacious and peaceful. It was the perfect vacation for us. Loved spending every morning doing devotions on the deck overlooking the New River with a hot cup of coffee. Good restaurants, shopping and attractions close by, yet we were out in the country. During our stay, other vacationers began arriving with their horses for New River Trail riding and we got to "visit" with some of the horses. It was just wonderful. We didn't want to come home. Hoping to stay again soon!

Great Location for New River Trail Ride

Nice, peaceful setting on New River. Front of cabin faces New River Trail and back overlooks New River. Good location for cycling New River Trail. One direction leads to Draper (must eat at Mercantile) and the other to Fries and Galax. Plenty of cycling, walking, horseback or fishing options. Hope to return in future.

Great Location

This home has ideal access to the river and to the New River Trail. We found the accommodations to be very comfortable and complete. A highlight was the porch with comfortable seating and wonderful views across the yard to the river.

Serene location

We very much enjoyed our stay. The location is ideal for anyone looking to explore the beautiful New River Trail. The home is spacious and cozy with a lovely view of the river .The bed is comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. Great getaway !

Nice place, great owners, superb location

We loved the house. It's a really nice property, long yard going back to the New River. The New River Trail access is just a few hundred yards up the gravel road. The owners were very friendly, answering my questions and being very helpful. Thanks, we'd love to stay again.

Truly tranquil

Linda was a great communicator. She answered all my questions in a very timely manner. The large property is beautiful! Direct access to NEW RIVER is a huge bonus. It is situated in a charming and very quiet neighborhood. Just as described! There are two comfortable bedrooms with lots of storage. A bathroom with a space heater. A big great room with dining, living and kitchen areas. Including the basement, there are two refrigerators, two stove/ovens, ping pong table, plenty of seating, lots of counter space, storage, two bathrooms, washer & dryer, and many other thoughtful touches. Great location. I would gladly stay again!!!

Great location!

We wanted to stay in the area to hike some of the trails at New River Trail State Park so this was the perfect spot with a trail entrance within walking distance. The house is just what you see on line, with a beautiful yard and short walk to the water. We would stay again if in the area.

Perfect spot for biking on the New River Trail

This house was a perfect location for us to get to the New River Trail. The house was clean, kitchen well stocked with cooking supplies and utensils, and the bed was very comfortable. The owners responded quickly when I had an issue with location and hot water. The balcony was a nice place to relax.

Peaceful and quiet. Lovely retreat right in the New River.

So convenient to the New River trail, which we biked each day. Also, close to Wythville, where my daughter and her family were camping. Very clean with all the amenities.

Listening to the river was wonderful. Peaceful setting.

Easy check in. Owners very responsive to questions. About a 20 to 30 minute drive to Galax or Wytheville. Enjoyed the stay.

Cabin in New River

My dad and I came down to ride the New River Trail. We loved the cabin! It was very clean. Even though there are neighbors nearby, it was always so quiet. There is a bench by the river that you can sit and watch for wildlife at the river. Also, there is a staircase that goes right down to the river. I saw an owl 2 nights in a row. It flew right past me as I was walking down to the river. I also saw some deer at the river and a heron flew right past me down at the river. It is easiest to access the trail by going back down the gravel road and under the bridge to the Ivanhoe access point. It was kind of steep and brushy to try to take our bikes up to the trail where it is right behind the cabin. This was a great place to stay

New River Trail location

The house is very close to the entrance of the New River Trail. Since the house is about halfway along the trail, we were able to ride south one day and north another day without having to drive anywhere. It had everything we needed for a relaxing vacation.

Great Location

Beautiful setting with the River on one side and the New River Trail on the other. We enjoyed eating on the deck with the view of the river and big grassy yard. We enjoyed the fire pit in the evenings. Kitchen has everything and the place was clean and very comfortable. We spent our days riding on the trail in both directions. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely like to return.

Perfect location for cycling on the New River Trail

This house is well-located and well-equipped for cycling on the New River Trail. Store your bikes in the unfinished basement and then hop on for a short 2 minute ride to the Ivanhoe trailhead. Use the hose out back to rinse off mud and debris from the trail on your bike and your legs! Use the washer and dryer to clean your cycling clothes! Relax on the deck overlooking nicely mowed lawn and the river - with coffee in the AM and cocktails in the PM. The firefly show at night is spectacular! The house was spacious and very clean. Beds are comfortable, towels are plentiful and AC and ceiling fans kept us comfortable.

Great Stay in a Beautiful Setting

We really enjoyed our stay and all interactions with Linda - she was extremely responsive throughout. The setting is beautiful & quiet and the cabin nicely appointed and comfortable. The New River Trail access is a short bike ride away and the river a stroll across the yard - and good fishing! One note if sharing with another couple or friends - the second bathroom is in the basement downstairs and accessible from outside vs inside stairs. Overall we loved our visit and hope to do so again!

It’s a beautiful spot!

The backyard on this house is unreal. It’s a huge lot straight to the river. We rode the bike trail which is literally across the across the road and also fished along the river. Linda was wonderful and went above and beyond to make our stay a great one. 10/10 would stay here again.
