Not bad but not great
My friend and I stayed in this cabin on our recent trip to Seward - we booked too late to find a decent, affordable hotel in town so decided to take this route instead. It was nice to be a bit off the beaten path, in the woods amidst a few other cabins on the property. The cabin was right on the river and there were tons of salmon swimming along (and dying...causing somewhat of an odor outside...apparently this is the time of year salmon swim upstream and where their lives come to an end). Another nice feature was the raspberry bush outside - plenty to pick and put on our morning yogurt. Very nice! The place was clean and with the murphy bed along with the queen bed in the unit, we both had our own sleeping space. The beds were comfortable. Despite some of the positives, as someone who owns a vacation rental unit, I was somewhat dissappointed as well. The place was clean - but lacking in a few ways. I would have expected the kitchen to be a bit better stocked with supplies - there is no microwave, as an example, which is an inexpensive investment as a property owner to make the lives of your guests easier. Kitchen supplies were very random - some of this, none of that, too much of this other thing. The toilet was not properly attached to the floor so that every time you made a visit, it rocked forward a bit. And the water was hard to control - it often came out SUPER HOT from the bathroom and kitchen sink (no issues with the shower, however, which had nice pressure to it). The owners ask you to remove your shoes in the unit - I would suggest some cozy area rugs in the unit if the owners want that behavior, since the floor is made of cement. There is not a lot of storage place for your clothes, with the exception of a small space in the bathroom with some hangers. Finally, the place is not that close to town. It was at least three miles in - and with all the hking and walking we were doing, that was the last way we wanted to spend our energy. If you are taking the train or bus in, I would suggest staying at hte Windsong Lodge. The bus drops off, and picks up, at this hotel and they have a great shuttle service as well. We actually walked to the Windsong a few times (10 minutes) and they allowed us to take advantage! There are cabs in Seward but aren't always easy to come by - the best services we found were Red's and Seward Taxi. With a few small improvements, this could be a five-star location! I encourage the owners to put a bit more into this unit to make it more comfortable for their guests.
