The house was roomy enough for all 8 of us, and very well equipped. The grounds were very nice, with the water being right there. Wish we had stayed long enough to enjoy the barbecue area! Owners were very nice. House could use a bit of sprucing up, it’s looking well-used. Major issue for us was that it was too far from Colonial Williamsburg.
Beautiful location. Close to Colonial Williamsburg and all the other historic sites. My issues are with the condition of the kitchen appliances (which are very old), the dirty garbage can area, lack of soap, garbage bags - no shelf in the shower for shampoo etc or a bar to hold onto. Also, one bedroom had a very moldy odor. There also was no propane for the grill.
Just book now! The cottage is so much better than the listing pictures. The kitchen, dining and living room open to a beautiful view of the water. There is a second living room where if you want a quiet moment to read or play games you can. We took a walk down the driveway and collected sea glass. It created wonderful memories for our family! Also, there was everything you could possibly need in the kitchen to make it feel like home. Would definitely recommend
The house and location were perfect. We had plenty of space for two families to spread out, SO many kitchen items, lovely decorations, gorgeous views- this was the total package!!
Give yourself 24 hours to settle in. We arrived in perfect weather for a 4 day respite and only for one day, with land breezes, did we experience some pesky flies. The fresh salt air, wide star-lit skies, 24/7 quiet and mesmerizing moon-glow off the waters, 360 degrees worth, more than make up for any such small annoyance. There is some history to appreciate about the island and the cottage. When you find yourself first thing in the morning checking the tide schedules, you will then realize you’ve slipped into island mode and have totally exhaled. The cottage at Carmine’s Island works its own special magic on you thanks to Donna and Mike. We left in rejuvenated spirits and with lasting fond memories.
We had a good time. The house was nice clean and in a very unique location. The first time on the bridge was a little scary but everything worked out well. we would stay again if we were in the same area.
Our family of 5 recently enjoyed a weekend at this lovely cottage. The views are gorgeous!! The kitchen, dining area and living room all overlook the water. We enjoyed playing games and eating meals all while enjoying the views. The cottage had many nice amenities, and the owners were very accommodating. Close to Yorktown and grocery stores. It was the perfect getaway!
The cottage was clean and comfortable, as were the beds. My friend and our respective pups had a nice walk down to the main house/pier and around the small island. The high tides made coming and going over the wooden bridge a little dicey but it didn't present a problem. Communication with the host was a breeze even though they were out of town at the time. Watching the herons and egrets in the marshes was an additional treat. I'd highly recommend the cottage and the location.
The cottage was nice, rustic and nautically decorated. The location was good for the areas we wanted to visit.
Safety Concerns: The porch steps to the side door were very steep - should be 4 or 5 not 3. The mold in the upstairs shower was a issue, and the lack of useful railing on the steps to the upstairs. The decorative railing was difficult to use for balance.
Decided at the last minute to check out Yorktown, VA for our anniversary. We needed a place that allowed dogs and I always love to get away to a place with water. This property had both. The home was very rustic, had great views, and comfy. For a quick trip, this was great.
The property is in a great location with stunning views. The hosts were super friendly, communcaitive and knowledge of the local area. We were able to go fishing on their nice pier. Super accomadating and pet friendly. THANKS
This is a peaceful, beautiful costal Virginia home that I hope will never change. If you are looking to get away from the modern day stress and hectic life-style, then this is your place to relax and enjoy the scenery. The cottage is in a great location close to the Historic Area of Virginia. We visited Jamestown, Yorktown and Williamsburg. My 15 year old son said he would always remember this special place and that says it all!
We had a great week on the island! Communication with the host was awesome. House was great. Had everything we needed for our stay and overall was very clean.
We loved the convenience of the locatuon. You felt like you were so far away from everything because it was so peaceful but with just a short drive down the road you had everything at your fingertips! We had plans if spending a couple days at the waterpark and Busch Gardens and wow this is convenient. 20 to 25 min drive and your there which is really great after a long day. Then your only an hour from Virginia beach.
Great fishing on the island. Hist was very kind and let us fish off their beautiful pier. The sunsets are amazing from there. Wish our weather was better so I could have enjoyed more of them.
Overall great experience. Just make sure you bring bug spray. The mosquitoes are feirce but manageable.
House was great. aC is a little finicky and had to be repaired during our stay. Lots of ants and bugs. An exterminator should be called but overall the house is amazing. The mosquitoes prevent use of the amazing deck and the view but that is no fault of owners. Private boat launch was nice and it is very secluded, yet close to lots of attractions. We would stay again
This is a great place to stay. It was quiet and tranquil after busy day’s sightseeing. Close to all the major sights would recommend to anyone going to Williamsburg area

Why they chose this property
The property is a true getaway but so convenient to everything in the area. We moved to the main house in 2006 and purchased the cottage in 2012 to have available for famiy, friends and guests. Everyone loves to come to and stay on the island!
