Great location!
The location is beautiful, easy parking, would be an even better place to stay in the summer as the cottage is just controlled by space heaters so it was a little challenging to keep the space at a nice temperature. Gorgeous views and cute decor, lovely fireplace, but no bathroom sink or vanity/mirror for getting ready, so definitely better for a short term stay. The hosts are lovely and welcoming but knocked on our door several times during the stay which woke up our baby twice on the first night, so maybe not the best place to stay with little ones. Definitely great if you are very social and not looking for a ton of privacy. They were very sweet and under different circumstances we would have been more social.

Sweet pleasant piece of paradise
Our family stayed at the cozy Smed’s cottage amidst the breeze and the lake for over a week full of resting and relaxing moments. Our hosts were lovely and generously shared their succulent tomatoes with us. Thank you for the opportunity you gave us to stay at your property ! We hope the next guests will feel as welcomed as we did :-)

Excellent Hosts, Beautiful Gardens, Very Close to Lake, Tranquil Setting
John and Caron Smed are excellent hosts. They are the kindest, most considerate, interesting, and friendly people I have met while using the VRBO site. They provide the guest with complete privacy. However, they will also invite guests to share dinner with them occasionally in their main home (they live on the same property). Caron maintains a beautiful garden that smells wonderful in the summer months. There is a large wooden outdoor patio, surrounded by gardens. The setting is completely tranquil. The lake is a 3 minute walk away. I would highly recommend staying here. I have stayed here for 2 months. Virginia Kloess

Enjoyed our Stay!!
Thank you so much for your hospitality. It was really special that we could bring our two girls (Keltie and Chloe) with us. Quick access to public beach and such a short drive to Gray Monk and Arrowleaf wineries.

Relaxing and cozy stay
My family and I really enjoyed staying at John and Caron's cabin this year. It's our second time (our first was in 2014) being in Lake Country. The cabin, though snug, provided everything that we needed. Some of my favourite moments this yea werer: enjoying the lovely peonies in Caron's garden, reading a book and eating lunch al fresco on the deck, seeing the magpies swooping about at the nearby winery (Gray Monk), and browsing the Kelowna Farmers Market, where I scored some alpaca leg warmers!! This was a decidedly "chill" vacation and it's exactly what I needed.

Great Access to the Beach
My husband, son and I spent 4 nights at this cute littLe cottage. There was plenty of room for the 3 of us, and the cottage was well stocked with all sorts of kitchen gadgets, but only 2 coffee cups, which I found a bit odd. The one thing that is not mentioned in the listing description, and you can't see in the photos, is that the cottage is literally in the backyard of the main house. Which is totally fine, as long as there aren't a bunch of people in the main house!! For the first few days, there was a small family staying in the main house, and the interactions we had with them were pleasant, and friendly. On our last day there, 5 or 6 more adults arrived to stay in the main house ( the owners were hosting some guests I believe ) which increased the volume quite a bit. There isn't enough space in the yard to reasonably accommodate 2 different parties of people....we literally spent the last night inside the cottage( rather than outside on the deck ), and walking around down at the beach, unable to sit comfortably on the "private deck" that is attached to the cottage, due to the loud conversation ( lots of people talking at once is always loud no matter how polite ) and complete lack of consideration for our privacy. We felt like we were uninvited guests to a private party. We also felt like it was overpriced for what was offered. We were not offered access to the hot tub, the beach toys needed to be inflated in order to be used ( which took 2 days ) I would not recommend this cottage to anyone for more than a night. I certainly wouldn't recommend this cottage to ANYONE if the owners are in the main house!! They are very nice people, but the yard just isn't big enough! We did enjoy breakfast at the little cafe down the street and many hours of beach fun! All in all our stay was fine...nothing to write home about...just fine.

Quick stop
This is truly a retreat! We had just finished the Penticton Granfondo Cycle and we were looking for a quiet space with a comfortable bed. We got both! The cottage is so sweet, reminding me of Aix En Provence with the colours and comfort inside. It is a smaller space but has everything you need! Plus a wonderful little veranda and private patio surrounded by fresh herbs, lillies, and other gardens! The walk to the beach is about 4 minutes and the water is clear and beautiful!

cabin on the lake
My wife, son and I stayed in Carons cabin and it was great. It was clean upon arrival and had everything we needed. It's in a nice, quiet location, 1 block from the lake and just down the road from several wineries. This is a great spot for a small family or couple who is looking for a quiet area. We will definitely be back. Thanks

Good family time vacations
We loved our time in this cute little cottage. Me, my girlfriend and our little 9 months old daughter had all what we needed at our disposal and two separate bedroom combine with the equiped dining room with great private patio. With the wonderful hot summer weather we had while we were there we enjoyed the close beaches beside the awesome Okanagan Lake. When we came back to the cottage we enjoyed a good glass of wine with BBQ dinner on the patio when the baby was asleep. We had the chance to visit the 5 closes wineries and even have a picnic at Arrowleaf. Thanks to Caron tip, we also visited the Kangaroo farm. Caron and John are great host, makin sure we felt at home. Always there to guide us and always smiling. They also let us having our privicy. In summary, we had a great time there and loved our 5 days on the Lake Country region. Thanks Caron and John! Andreik, Caroline and baby Maxym

Amazing location for a getaway
This cottage is in a perfect location - just a block from the lake, close to wineries and beaches, close to Kelowna, but far far away from the hustle and bustle. The cottage itself is cozy, sharing a yard with the main cabin. The beds were clean and comfortable. Thanks for a great stay.

Lovely cottage by the lake
I stayed at Caron and John's cottage in Lake Country in May 2014. The cottage was homey, clean, and comfortable, with enough space for the three of us. Caron had communicated all the details for check-in and check-out well before our arrival. There was also plenty of information compiled in a binder for guests in the cottage. We enjoyed walks to the lake - mere few minutes away - as well as to the local coffee shop and to several wineries up the hill from the cottage. (Most notably, Arrowleaf winery was a definite favourite!) The quiet and serene countryside and the friendly hospitality of our hosts were balm to our harried souls needing escape from the bustle of urban living.

Great Spot for a Quick Getaway
My husband and I stayed in this quaint little cottage for only one night but it was a wonderful quiet spot after driving up from Washington. We enjoyed the comfortable bed and lovely deck. The location suited us for its closeness to everything we needed and the next day we were a short walk to the Grey Monk Winnery where we enjoyed lunch. It is especially nice because it is not in Kelowma proper with it's endless traffic. We have stayed here on other occassions and it was equally as restful. Thank you John and Caron for such providing this hidden gem.

good location, great garden, small house
The house is small (shower without any sink, no door between rooms) but, the garden is great (flowers, herbs, toys for kids...), the terrasse and BBQ are very nice and the location is amazing (5 mn from Okanagan lake, 5 mn from High way). Good for few days.

Cozy Cottage
The cottage was basic but had everything our family of four needed. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was equipped for us to make meals. The garden was lovely. We were outside the hussle and bussle of Kelowna. We were close to wineries.

Great setting for our family getaway
We had a nice time visiting the Okanagan. Spent 4 nights at the small cottage and it served our family well (2 adults, 2 small children). Enjoyed the water each day - indeed it is only a few steps to the lake. (although no view of it from the cottage). Made great use of all the toys on the site - 2 person inflatable boat, lifejackets, beach chairs, kids bike. We usually camp for this trip each year, but we all liked not having to pack so much "stuff" this time around! Only inaccuracy in the listing was there was no bodum-type coffee maker (we left ours at home). Also we needed to purchase a battery for the smoke alarm that was not working. We visited Kelowna, the Kangaroo farm, the Jammery and H2O aquatic centre. Found a nice church service to attend at the high school in Winfield.

Great Family Vacation
My family had the pleasure of renting this cabin for 5 nights. The property owners, John and Caron, we very friendly, gracious and helpful with knowledge about the area and activities to do. The cabin is located in a very quiet neighborhood and we loved the close proximity to the beach. We recommend buying some water shoes as the beach is rocky- the kids enjoyed jumping into the lake and paddling around in the inflatable boats that we provided by the owners. It is only a short 20 min drive to the beach in downtown Kelowna and it is great to come back to the quiet cabin after a busy day. The cabin was clean and although it is small it suited our needs perfectly. The yard and deck were great for evening bbq's and for the kids to play in. We would only recommend that they provide a microwave. We would love to stay there again. Thank you Caron and John

Cabin
Our family's stay was good. The yard was great for the kids and they had access to toys they enjoyed. The beach was real close and beautiful. The cabin was cozy and clean, and was well equipped with everything you could need. The owners were real nice and helpful if we needed anything. The only thing was the cabin was so close to the owners house I was worried about noise and going into the hot tub to late ect. We enjoyed our stay and would return again

Great Cottage!
My two young children and I enjoyed the cottage (and it's air conditioning) completely. It was clean, bright, and comfortable. We also enjoyed the friendly owners and comfortable atmosphere of the yard and the district. We could walk to local restaurants and could drive through vineyards and fruit orchards to buy groceries or go to a number of restaurants (although most of our meals were at the cottage). We were very close to the lake in a quiet small town setting that was very relaxing 'between' the busy hubs of Vernon and Kelowna. We walked to the 2 beaches (gravel) and enjoyed swimming and paddling every day. I would love to stay there again in the future!

Fabulous family holidays by the lake
Upon our arrival at Okanagan Lake beach house, we were warmly welcomed by Caren, the owner. She showed us around the house and backyard, recommended a few places and shared with us the welcome folder. We had access to the hot tub, the beautiful garden, the toys and all the beach accessories which our two daughters loved (especially the rubber boat). We had 4 wonderful days filled with swimming (we went back and forth to the beach), sightseeing and rest. We visited the Arrowleaf Vinyard (which is only 5 min drive up the hill from the house - we highly recommend their picnic panoramic terrace overlooking the lake, our 9 year old was so inspired by the view, she painted it). We took a fun day trip to the Kettle Valley steamtrain (80 min drive). If you have the opportunity to join their Great Train Robbery, go for it. We could have stayed longer, the area has so much to offer. Enjoy your visit.

We love the Okanagan Lake so much that we purchased this property in Lake Country, BC with a Carriage House located on the property. We love water, swimming, fresh fruit, close by all amenities, walking trails, etc., great location. This area reminds us of the Italian coastline and enjoys many fruit trees, wineries, lakes, and amusements nearby. Kelowna area is one of the most sought after travel destinations in the world for golfing and wine tours and winter skiing.
We moved here and designed the gardens with herbs like orange mint, sage, fennel, dill, parsley, and tomatoes. We also love to grow flowers so the property has a fruit salad apple tree (4 kinds), blueberry bushes, redbud, roses, and lavender and fragrant lilies. The Casablanca is my favourite.
This area is historic and adjacent to the property is an 800 year old fir tree which is antique and a heritage specimen. the neighbourhood has been around for 100 years and has a museum in the 'old school', cafe and old fruit packing building that is active cleaning and packing fruit. The paddle boats used to travel the Okanagan Lake with fruit from all the neighbouring towns and clean and pack and send out by railway before the Highway 97 was built.
For history buffs there is the book written on the beginnings of Carr's Landing and this area.
The city of Winfield celebrates each weekend in the summer music concerts in the parks in the area.
There is so much for kids to do at the Kangaroo Park, skate park, water park, farmers markets, Davidson Orchard and petting zoo, Oyama Zipline, and miniature golf, bumper cars, and race track and batting cages.
Golf is amazing here from Tower Ranch, Predator Ridge, The Quail, The Rise, to Kelowna Springs just to name a few top notch challenges.
Swim, bike, walk the lake paths under the sweet smell of pine.
Rent a boat at Turtle Bay and explore Wood Lake and Kalmalka Lake, water ski, or park and have a beer at the pub near Vernon.
For bird watchers there are quail.

Why they chose this property

SUMMER and WINTER FUN
HISTORICAL AREA
We first came to this property to spend time with family and enjoyed it so much we decided to purchase. There is an antique Fir tree (800 years old) behind our property, a museum which is a historical site where the orchards were planted 130 years ago.
We have a quiet neighbourhood where you will be able to get a good nights sleep and off to the wineries. Visit the many wineries as close as a walk up the hill to Gray Monk and Arrowleaf. Sun bathing, clean refreshing water, walks along the 20 mile waterfront or bike challenges on the windy hills are all here for you to enjoy.
FRESH ORGANIC PRODUCE in Winfield on Fridays and in Kelowna on Wed and Saturday mornings.
This property is in a historic area from the early century.
There is a very special neighborhood and it is friendly. The beach is so delightful to sit and read by, go for a dip, or boat in. There are many places to explore right here.
We are still enjoying bike trails on the new Oyama Trails and also in the Kettle Valley where you ride on the train tressels with panoramic views below and the lakes from a distance.
We ski in the winter at Silver Star and it is spectacular. Cross country, snowshoe, and cliff climbing.
Food here is wonderful and tasty.
FRESH ORGANIC FARM EGGS
BLUEBERRIES ORGANIC
CHERRY TREES @ Walter Franks
PEACH TREES and other fruit at Wendells Orchard (Carrs Landing)
APRICOT Organic TREES @ Bryant FARMS (Hare Road)
and many more fruits at the markets both in Kelowna and Winfield.
Artisans are active here: painters, sculpture, ceramics, and more.
First week in Sept there are many artists gather in the town to display their art.
My husband and I grew up in Calgary, AB and we never experienced country living. We did not know what we were missing.
Great place to eat and explore many wineries. Gray Monk (walking distance), Arrowleaf Winery and outdoor picnic, and Naramata Bench for red wines.

What makes this property unique

Featuring : Arrow Leaf Winery...
is "Our Family Favorite" walking distance and has picnic tables for wine and cheese, children included and a gorgeous view as well with a NEW PATIO with light snacks served for adults to enjoy.
Arrowleaf judged the number two winery in Canada at The Nationals.
posted Dec. 2015
The WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada is this country's most comprehensive and reputable wine competition. Highly respected judges blind-tasted 1408 wines from 205 wineries and awarded platinum, gold, silver and bronze medals. Based on each winery's performance, they compiled a list of this year's top 25 wineries in Canada. We are thrilled to have won 5 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals, making us the number two winery in Canada! We have made it into the top 25 before, but being so close to the top is an achievement we are very proud of. Congratulations to the winery of the year, Mission Hill Family Estate, and to everyone who made the top 25.

Golfing is Fantastic and we are close to many and yet in the country where you can enjoy a swim after a hot day golfing. Wine Touring or visiting sights is always more enjoyable knowing you can cool off at the beach for a quick swim.
Being close to the water.
The water here is cleaner, larger, warmer climate and longer
growing season. Tall pine trees scent the trails and there height and stature are beautiful.
Everything grows here in this wonderful climate.
Boating is spacious and good for fishing.
Quaint, quiet, therapeutic, warm sunny days, beautiful countryside.
Night stars, no street lights, and visits around the campfire, setting a table with Casablanca Lilies from my garden, roses, lavender, lilac.
Walking to the museum and cafe for a cup of coffee. Experience the pioneers from the past at the museum and park as you pass a 800 year old tree in our back alley.
