Meticulously remodeled to be the best vacation rental in the area, Otter's Den is wheel chair friendly with a chair lift in the garage and 3ft or wider doors throughout except in the guest hallway, bedroom and bath. 60 ft of dock space on a deep water canal means your boat is in your back yard ready to head for the Gulf, the springs, or even a waterfront restaurant. Most furniture and appliances are brand new including all beds (King in master bedroom, 2 twins that can be moved together in the guest bedroom.) Master bath area has a walk in closet, travertine (real stone) shower stall, and new toilet, sink, exhaust fan and light fixtures. Guest bath has tub, shower, and is newly tiled with all new fixtures as well. the kitchen and dining area sports a new dishwasher, electric stove with stainless hood, built in microwave, a huge walk-in pantry, double door refrigerator with ice maker and through the door water dispenser, toaster, blender, and quality flatware and service for 8. There is a 60 inch plasma TV in the living room, and LCD TV's in the bedrooms and kitchen. The home has vaulted ceilings and an 'open air' feel with lots of skylights and pocket doors that disappear into the walls leaving a vast open view of the spacious deck, the dock, the water and wildlife. A large 2 car garage and driveway should take car of your vehicles, but there is extra parking nearby for boat trailers and possibly an RV. Recreational amenities include 2 bicycles, a double kayak, a single kayak, canoe, 2 spinning rods with tackle for fishing off the dock. Serious anglers should bring their own gear. A four person 14ft Carolina Skiff with 2 bench seats, Bimini top and 9.9 hp Evinrude four stroke motor is available to qualified boaters for an additional fee. The house is on a private paved single lane road facing 3 acres of undeveloped deciduous woods. Most houses in this neighborhood are owned by weekenders who come 'up to the river' for fishing, boating, or just to relax.

Nature getaway with boat dock in Florida

This is a beautiful home in the middle of natural Florida. We were easily able to dock our boat for the entire stay. Even if you do not have a boat, this is a perfect location. We enjoyed the serenity of the area. Communication with the host was easy, and the home was perfectly clean and beautifully decorated. We look forward to returning.

Otter's Den- 5.0 !!!

We felt that Otter's Den was a GREAT find and we will return. Terry is a wonderful host. The house was open and very welcoming at check in. It is tastefully decorated and well appointed with everything you need from kitchen to dock, bath and beds. The pantry is large, has more items than we could possibly use and is well organized. There is more than sufficient cooking/ counter space in the kitchen for two to work comfortably. For a two bedroom two bath home, it is very large in living space. The beds are also very comfortable. We are experienced boaters from SW Florida and Jupiter. We brought our 24' Pathfinder which seems to be a perfect boat for this area. Trailer parking is directly across the road as described, however be advised it was somewhat of a tight fit as the "road" is a single car + drive and anything larger than a 24 up to about a 26 will require some creative maneuvering but doable with a short bed truck (I have a 4 door long bed). Over 26, I would contact the host first. Terry is a great host will most certainly give you the best advice. Tide rise and fall are minimal at around 1ft between high and low on a new moon. There is debris in the canal waters from the recent hurricane and on a high tide, a watchful eye on the bow is a good idea. There are commercial boats (crabbers) at the end of the canal before going out into the river and they are very active especially now during stone crab season. Last advice from a Captain- STAY ON THE MARKERS. Know the Rules.

Excellent Property

Beautiful home, spacious and comfortable with all the amenities. Deck and dock are terrific and access to the canals and river is easy. Owner next door is readily accessible and eager to respond to any problems or needs. The dishwasher failed while we were there and a new one was installed in two days, even tho the owner had to drive quite a ways to get it and put it in himself. Restaurants, shops and parks are nearby. Nice dog park, too, within 10 minutes. Highly recommended.

Great location (especially for boaters)

Great layout. Lots of room for family time as well as separate space when needed. Had our 20 and 11 year olds and they didn’t need to be in each others hair. Great deck facing canal. Parking would be tight for multiple vehicles, owner has options across road and possibly offsite, so it’s not a big deal Hope to return when Mother Nature isn’t playing cruel pranks on the south

Great place to explore the area

We loved the house! Beautiful home and excellent location. Big enclosed porch and deck for relaxing, right on the water. We took the boat out to the river, right to the head of the springs. Lots of restaurants within a few minutes drive. Many attractions within 30 minutes: we stayed for five days and never ran out of things to do. The owner lives next door and responded right away to questions, but otherwise you wouldn’t know he was there. Great experience!

Everything in the house was in excellent condition! It was nice to have a big garage with floats and pool noodles that we took to Hunter Springs. We didn't get to ride the bikes because of a tropical storm but we enjoyed a nice canoe ride. It was great to be able to get on the boats right from the back deck.

House was bigger than appeared from the pictures. Spacious layout. Sectional cough was super comfortable. Master room bed was comfortable. House was clean and smelled good. Love the skylights for natural lighting. My F-150 even fit in the garage. It's great that it is one of the first canals when you come to the idle zone in the river. More convenient that we didnt have to bake in the sun while idling in the river on the boat.

While building our little pocket cruiser my wife and I decided finally to retire to our favorite Old Florida getaway - Old Homosassa. We'd been visiting here and bringing friends for years and always dreamed of living here permanently. Now we do!

Why they chose this property

When another house in our quiet neighborhood became available, we bought it from the owner before it was ever listed on the market. The neighborhood is perfect, the house is well constructed and has always been well cared for, and the waterfront location is the best in the area. We bought the house specifically to remodel as a vacation rental (We have others in Roatan, Honduras), but I'm sure that if Otters Den had been available when we were shopping for ourselves we'd be living there now.

What makes this property unique

60 feet of dock space on a deep canal 1/2 mile from the Homosassa River, 3 miles from the Gulf of Mexico makes the house a boater's dream. A wheel chair lift in the garage allows easy accessibility for elderly or disabled. The rear deck is huge, the back porch/family room, living room, kitchen and master bedroom all have great water views and north light without glare.
