We had the pleasure of being the first guests to the Cozy Cabin, staying over the 4th of July weekend in 2013. The cabin was perfect! My husband and I traveled with three 13 year old girls and a 5 year old boy. Everyone had a wonderful trip, even though it rained almost the entire time we were on the Mountain. Since several items on our agenda (hiking to Bridal Veil Falls, the air show on the 4th, and several scheduled outdoor concerts during the weekend) were rained out we spent more time than we planned inside at the cabin. There were plenty of games, puzzles, and a deck of cards to keep everyone occupied. There was even a lovely selection of books fit for teens - I did suggest that the girls read a book, but I didn't get anyone to actually read one. :) The owners told us there was a Red Box at the Dollar General and we used it twice. The TVs at the cabin aren't fancy, but the one downstairs has a nice sound system hooked into it and it was perfect for our uses.
The cabin had a washer and dryer which are older machines, but they handled our multiple loads of soaked clothes perfectly (the parade, the arts & crafts show, and the fireworks went on as scheduled even though it was raining). Instead of having a picnic and a concert, we ended up visiting the nearby Piggly Wiggly and getting dinner to make at the cabin. The kitchen was well stocked and I was able to cook dinner without any trouble.
We planned to eat at Shenanigan's while on the Mountain, but found it closed (the building is for sale). We ate at the Blue Chair which we found to be delightful! Wonderful milkshakes, too! We also ate at the dining hall on campus twice - yum!
The girls enjoyed "hanging out" in the screened porch, and everyone enjoyed the sound of rain on a tin roof. My son enjoyed the freedom to ride his bike up and down the long driveway, too! (The driveway isn't really that long, but when you are 5 and used to having a standard concrete driveway in suburbia, the cabin's gravel driveway winding through the trees seems like an adventure. Especially if Mom lets you ride in the rain.)
The cabin is perfect for a family with children. Plenty of room for kids upstairs with the master bedroom downstairs. The 4 kids fit easily upstairs, we could even have accommodated a few more.
The Sewanee area is a beautiful place, we miss living on the Mountain (we are both Sewanee alums) and truly enjoyed our visit - even with the rain. We can't wait to come back next year for the 4th of July
