About this property

Luxury lakefront home in Cooperstown with private dock/deck +16' trampoline/raft

Summertime Hill is a 5 bedroom 3 bath restored Victorian house on Lake Otsego with a porch, private dock, deck, 16' TRAMPOLINE/RAFT, and room for a boat or kayak (which you can rent right down the lake at Sam Smiths). For the chef in your family, it has a great kitchen and grill. Professionally decorated and featured in an 8-page Good Housekeeping photo spread and article, where Summertime Hill was described as "one of the most beautiful and romantic accommodations in the Cooperstown area".

Surrounded by hills, Lake Otsego is the largest, cleanest, most scenic lake in the area. Often referred to as "Glimmerglass" (as coined by James Fenimore Cooper) our lake shimmers and sparkles in the light of the changing skies reflecting off of the limestone floor of the lake. Views aew especially breathtaking at sunrise and sunset. The water is crystal clear and pristine – perfect for swimming, fishing and boating.....AND bouncing on the TRAMPOLINE! Fall is equally fantastic, with some of the best foliage in New England.

In the 5 bedrooms are 3 queen beds, one double. and 2 designer twin beds in a fun and cozy room with a beamed ceiling, its own AC, and state-of-the-art washer/drier in slate The room with a double bed has its own private bath. From all 3 queens, you can see the sun and moon rise on the lake while lying in bed!. Among the many amenities are central A/C with dehumidifier, Jacuzzi tub, stainless appliances in the kitchen, a professional LaCanche stove, a Weber grill, real china, fine glasses, Italian sheets, incredibly comfortable glider/rockers and beds, high speed internet, and a 42” flat-screen TV with DVR/DVD/ROKU.

The long porch has a table for four, 2 extra chairs, 2 rockers, and a swing....all of which are fantastic for relaxing with a good book, while enjoying the fantastic views of the lake!

A few days in this bucolic setting, looking out on this truly spectacular lake will relax, rest and energize you...and you may never want to leave!

Beautifully preserved Victorian house

Magnificent property and beautifully decorated. Lots of space for dining inside or outside with your friends and family. The hosts were responsive and even dropped off refreshments and flowers during our stay. We rented a pontoon boat and were able to pull the boat right up to the dock at the house. Our family had fun on the trampoline and swimming off the dock. Be careful crossing the road to the water - cars go fast. We were very comfortable and would stay again!

False advertising on location and update

Overpriced and misrepresented lake front. Busy street fronts house, which was deteriorated and smelled like mold. Outdated tub and was very far from Cooperstown and Dreams Park. Had to book hotel instead of the Norman Bates vrbo.

Difficult owner/overpriced

Ok house nice location. One of the bedrooms is also used as a laundry room and this should be made clear in listing. It looked like mold build up in this room. Just didn't work as a bedroom. After rental i received message from owner complaining that we used too many sheets that we left porch chairs in rain and that we ruined carpet in this laundry room/bedroom because we used too much laundry detergent. Owner had the nerve to request money to cover expense of carpet. When paying 4thousand plus dollars to rent house i just thought this was petty

Family getaway

Porch and lake were beautiful! We used 3 of the 5 bedrooms on the front side of the house they were very roomy and faced the lake, beautiful sunrises! The other two bedrooms were smaller and connected to each of the bathrooms with shower so we kept these unoccupied. Dining room good for family dinners and game nights. BBQ great! Big fridge and nice dishwasher. Oven was in Breakfast room so we used this area for food prep. Cooperstown easy to get to!

Great stay

Richard and Pam are great hosts. They genuinely want the guests to feel at home and everything you might need during your stay is taken care of. Home is clean, welcoming and has a great location. The porch and the dock area provide great views and we spent lot of our time there during our stay. Highly recommend.

Delightfully charming!

Everything about this property was perfect. We were made to feel at home from the minute we stepped inside. Every inch is a charming delight from the claw foot tub downstairs to the carefully and creatively decorated bedrooms to the magnificent stove. The smell of the Phlox after a summer rain was heavenly and the colors of the Lantana sparkled everywhere. The porch was the perfect place to spend a quiet morning and an evening with family. We can't thank the host enough for providing us with the perfect spot to get away and relax!!

Beautiful house on the lake

We had a great stay at this house. It is an old Victorian, with all the quirks and charm that come with it. It sits on a hill across route 80 from the lake, and it is a quick walk down some stairs and across the road to your own private dock. Richard, the owner, was extremely helpful and responsive. He left perfectly ripe peaches and corn for us, which was a really fantastic touch. The house itself is immaculate and has some nice touches. The porch overlooking the lake is very peaceful to sit out on and drink coffee or a cocktail. Overall we were very pleased with our stay.

Wonderful Home!

We (family/friends) rented this home while our sons and husbands (the coaches) were in Cooperstown All Star Village for the week. While it was a 40 minute drive to/from the games, it was well worth it! Our tournament downtime was an actual vacation instead of just trying to pass the time. The home is lovely and charming, the views and porch are wonderful for relaxing, and the owners made us feel very welcome. They surprised us with apples, cookies and some other lovely treats. The home was clean, stocked and furnished like they live there, not like the typical rental. It felt like we were staying with friends. Highly recommend and hope to return!

Family Reunion on the Lake

We had a lovely time at this property. It was late September so only a few hardy folks went in for a swim, but we had many lovely evenings on the porch and enjoyed Cooperstown. The house was clean, comfortable, and I particularly liked the well equipped and clean kitchen.

We had the best time. We’re a family of four and the entire experience was great and went smoothly.

We had a great time and left saying we would come back! From the beginning management was very helpful and easy to communicate with. They provided a thorough written overview of things to know and called to check in when we arrived. They left fresh corn and ice cream which was very special. The house is beautiful and we were were very comfortable with enough space. There was nothing better than enjoying our morning coffee in the porch. We loved spending time at the dock and in the water. It’s beautiful and comfortable. It was a very special vacation and great place to get away.

Lake House break

We stayed at the house for the last week in July and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our hosts welcomed us with beer, wine and ice cream for the kiddos, which was delightful! The house was fully stocked with basics for cooking (seasoning, condiments, tin foil, etc.) which was a very nice surprise, and highly unusual in our experience. They were always on hand to help (bringing us a propane tank, helping us work the TV), and were highly responsive to questions about local activities. As a seasoned renter of properties, I can say hands down our hosts ranked among the highest caliber. We would definitely recommend this property to any large group or family looking to escape reality for a spell!

Great location, great owner

The location of the property is absolutely amazing. While the space is "cozy", it has great charm. The views from the upstairs rooms of Lake Otsego were truly special. What really made our stay even better was the owner's responsiveness and him stopping over to make sure everything was fine (and actually giving us fresh corn from the local market!)

Lakefront Getaway

The house was a lovely getaway for our group of friends. The entire house has great decor and we ate every meal outdoors on the porch. We went swimming off the dock by day and stargazing from it at night. The wifi is good so when we had to work remotely it was no problem. The owner is very attentive and willing to help out with anything we needed. The neighbors are friendly - they offered tips on the lake and let us use their swim float. We'd love to go back again - there's so much space that it's comfortable for a larger group.

Beautiful location and home

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this house. We were a party of six and with four bedrooms there’s plenty of room for everybody to relax and move around. The house is in wonderful condition and decorated in an antique style. It has a private dock right on the lake just a few steps away from the house. It’s our second time at Lake at Seago and it’s one of the nicest lakes we have been to. The owner was a pleasure to deal with, and was very accommodating and available to us when needed. My favorite feature about the house was the kitchen with its commercial stove, if you plan on cooking during your stay this is the place for you.

Beautiful home!

Beautiful vintage home on the lake with great views throughout. Great communication from the owners and property manager. Large enough for a few families who may want to be on the lake when going to CDP. About 10 miles from CDP ( a 15-20 min ride). Owner came by and gave us some coffee. He was really nice and took care of anything we needed.

Beautiful house.

The property is very pretty. The neighbor down by the dock was very pleasant and allowed my children to swim to the dock. I would recommend that the washer / dryer be in a more convenient location as entering the basement is a little frightening. I would also recommend updating the TV too. The management company was very pleasant to work with and helpful too. I would recommend this property if you like the Victorian theme and want to have an experience of going back in time. This house includes the modern amenities and captures a moment of time. Thanks for the experience and a great place The Serafin’s.

Back in time

This is an older home that will send you back in time. Reminded me of the stories my parents used to tell me. Lots of floral wallpaper. Beautiful location. Could not beat the view from the front porch. There was only one functional bathroom for us. My son stayed in the room with the shower, but he said the water never got warm. The bathroom that we all used has a huge tub/shower combo. I had a hard time getting in and out of the bathtub. It’s very tall. We did have a problem with the washing machine. It was fixed within a couple of days. The washing machine and dryer are in the unfinished basement. That was a bit freaky. The stairs were also a bit steep for me, but luckily I managed them. I would not stay here with small children. It’s a bit cluttered and they would have a hard time not breaking anything or finding a place to play.

Beautiful home in the perfect location with exquisite furnishings, and a gracious host!

This home was a joy to stay in! Every detail was carefully attended to. We felt such a warm welcome from the fresh flowers to the owners favorite coffee left for us. It was nice to have a number to contact throughout the week and Richard was very kind to check in with us. The location could not be more perfect! We stayed here while our son played baseball in Cooperstown Dreams Park and the drive never took us longer than 15 minutes. There are many close restaurants and things to do. There are menus and recommendations from the owner left for you to read. The Main Street of Cooperstown was only 5 minutes away. The views out of the windows of the bedrooms upstairs are beautiful. We spent mornings rocking on the porch swing. I only wish the rising and setting sun took longer so we could have spent more time enjoying the view from the front porch. Swimming in the lake and relaxing by the water on the private dock was our favorite thing to do. The house is well equipped with everything you would need. The owners literally thought of it all. Professional stove and cookware made cooking easy. Spices and sugar for coffee are all nice to have provided. There is a users guide to the whole home on the key desk, and it was very useful. The beds were so comfortable and linens are luxurious. Plenty of pillows and blankets. The charm to which the house is decorated cannot be justly described. Best to see in person! I would not stay anywhere else if returning to this cozy town.

Amazing vacation!

We rented this lovely home for a week while my son played baseball in the Cooperstown 12U tournament. It was a perfect house....charming, comfortable, relaxing. The owner was very helpful; the house was well-appointed with everything we needed. The lake is STUNNING, and the dock and proximity were perfect. It was a bit of a drive to the ball park, but VERY worth it! Location was very close to town, though, which was a bonus. Would definitely stay here again! Great memories.

About the host

Hosted by Richard Scurry

Host profile image
My name is Kristina, and I am the rental agent for Summertime Hill. The owners live in Charleston SC but love Cooperstown so much that they spend 4 months here every summer.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property because we fell in love with Lake Otsego - the beauty of the hills on all sides, the shimmering surface of the water, the lack of development (much of the land around it is owned by a foundation) and then our whole family loves to waterski. We also loved the house itself - built over 100 years ago, with a solidity modern houses don't have, with windows low enough to see the lake from a chair or bed, and a wonderful warm feel to it that warms one's heart.

What makes this property unique

Spectacular views of the lake while eating on the porch or reading a book in the wicker swing or in a rocker.

You can eat in the dining room, breakfast room, on the porch, or down at the lake on the raised platform deck.

The interior is stunningly beautiful, with the interior design by the owner's wife, Pam - a world class designer, nationally recognized for her taste in colors, fabrics, designer furniture, all of which she coordinates to bring grace, charm, warmth and beauty to the entire house.

The property manager (Kristina) is happy to offer local recommendations and answer questions before or during your stay. She has spent many a summer and fall in Cooperstown - including during this last season.
