Very near the Camels Hump Trailhead, Sugarbush, Mad River, Bolton Valley and the Catamount Trail.

Three bedrooms with similar appointments, one off the second floor living space and two downstairs on the ground floor, make sharing the Sled uncomplicated. Each with its own personality, these queen bedrooms are simply furnished with new, name brand mattresses.

The fourth bedroom(also on the ground floor) and its bunk bed is ideal for kids and extra guests. All beds and baths are supplied with quality cotton linens and towels. Extra linens, towels, beach towels, and blankets are kept in the laundry room for the convenience of our guests.

Nice house - limited access to farm

House is as pictured and the kitchen is well appointed for cooking. We also stayed at the house during a heat wave and the downstairs bedrooms stay cool despite no AC. One thing to note, the description mentions access to the farm and nearby swimming holes. This appears to only be true if the guests renting the house nearest to the pond do not mind. We were informed by rather rude man from CT that the pond was not ‘communal’ area. Why walking our grandchildren around the pond to look a frogs was so offensive to him, I am not sure. But just to point out your full access to the farm is dependent on the other renters. We played some in the river below the house without any issues.

The Sled is Wonderful!

The Sled provided our family with all the comforts of home. Family dinners were easy to make and enjoy with the large kitchen setting. Pots, pans, and utensils were provided. It has one huge tile shower that is an exhibit to see. Expertly ventilated and very well designed. There is an abundance of towels and wash clothes. Laundry and an iron are available. Generally I wake up sore when I sleep in a different bed, but not on this trip. The comforters and sheets were very nice as well. The Sled has plenty of windows for fresh air or views. A very nice Weber grill and a cozy vibe all around, wait till you see the hardwood floors! We had a wonderful trip thanks to the comforts provided by the Sled.

Great stay during Rooted Vermont bike race

We throughly enjoyed our stay at The Shed on Sarah and Bert's property. It was the perfect set up for an outdoor adventure vacation. Such an easy floorpan for sharing the space. The house is pristinely clean and maintained, all furnishings and beds immaculate and comfortable. The kitchen is beautiful and well appointed. We especially liked the separate shower room ... brilliant for allowing everyone to be getting ready expediently. And great location! The race course was just down the road from The Shed! Thank you Sarah and Bert for sharing your slice of heaven in Vermont. We hope to come back and enjoy the beauty of Richmond again.

Year 2

We had a great time at the Sled. The house is beautiful and has everything you could need. Coming home and starting a fire after a day of skiing made the house feel cozy. This was the second winter we stayed and its a great spot for skiing, snowshoeing or hiking. We love the proximity to Burlington and to Waterbury too. Its a great spot to use as a home base for all the fun stuff Vermont has to offer. Thanks Sarah!

About the host

Hosted by Bert and Sarah Dickerson

Host profile image
Bert Dickerson was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He moved with his family to Jericho Ctr. Vermont at the age of five when his parents both took faculty positions in the English Department at the University. Upon graduating from Mount Mansfield Union High, Bert returned to Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina to complete his education.
One fateful day after graduation, while recovering from a Dead concert on the Mall in Washington DC, Bert met Sarah.
She was a girl from Rome, educated in Athens (both in Georgia) on her way North in search of…. something else. “You ought to go to Nantucket?” Bert suggested. He had been spending summers there his whole life and was returning to work for yet another summer with no real plans for his future. Sarah thought that sounded pretty good so she drove on to Hyannis, took the noon boat and never looked back.
They got married in Siasconset a couple of years later and dove headfirst into island life. “It’s like a trade school,” Sarah said. “Anything you ever wanted to learn to do, you can learn it here.” And they did. Working a variety of jobs between them – restaurant work, carpentry, bookkeeping, house cleaning, landscaping, and event tent assembly - they even learned to make bagels.
As busy as they were they managed to have two kids, Angus and Mary Jo, and renovate their first home on Surfside. After twenty years they were exhausted. “We need a break” they both agreed. “Remember that piece of property we bought when we first got married? It’s near my Mother, and the kids will go to the same high school I went to.” reckoned Bert
So in 2001, they moved. Bert was home again. Sarah was happy and to sell the idea of leaving Nantucket to live in Vermont to the kids, they all got snowboards.
Angus and Mary Jo both graduated from MMU just like their father and moved to Boston.
They spend most of their time now working together on various projects around the farm, snowboarding in winter and gardening in summer.

Why they chose this property

The road to the Fielder Farm gently winds its way out of the Huntington Valley and into the foothills on the western side of Camel's Hump. The road follows and crosses one of the many mountain brooks swelling the Hunting River as it rushes for the Huntington Gorge downstream. Passing through the tree line at the top of the ridge the view breaks wide open revealing pastures, pond and the mountain ridges beyond.
Regardless of the season, the diverse landscape occupied by the Fielder Farm offers visitors a convenience and variety of activities right out the front door. To access the Catamount Ski Trail follow the fence line. It’s just 300 yards from the Pond. Old farm and logging roads that have been reclaimed and maintained over the last few years offer exceptional views of the Adirondacks, Lake Champlain, and Camel's Hump. The Farm and its surrounding hills are yours to explore!

What makes this property unique

Abutting Fielder Farm, guests staying at the Sled have access to the Farm's 230 acres, including its own backcountry, hiking, and nordic trails, a sledding hill and swimming holes along Brushy Brook. Access to the Catamount Trail is right out your door. Snowshoe to the top of Little Baldie then ride your board or skis home.
