About this property

Morialta Barns - The Loft - Unique Heritage Accommodation

Venture just twenty minutes from the City of Adelaide into the beautiful Adelaide Hills and you can find the State Heritage listed Morialta Barns. The Barns were built around 1847 by John Baker, the second premier of South Australia, as part of his Morialta House Estate at Norton Summit. After falling into disrepair they have recently been undergoing restoration and conversion to bed and breakfast accommodation and we are now ready to welcome guests to the property.

The Barns are located on an eight acre property where they sit on the side of a picturesque valley overlooking the Fourth Creek as it winds its way down towards the Morialta Falls. Both the Heysen and Yurrebilla Trails pass through the property on their way either into the Morialta Conservation Park or across to Mount Lofty and beyond.

The Barns can accommodate up to eight guests in three separate buildings. The Well Room has accommodation for two guests; The Loft has accommodation for two guests; and The Bakery can accommodate up to four additional guests. Any group size from one to eight will be able to stay at The Barns, so if you are a smaller group you don’t need to book the entire property but if you have a larger group you can still enjoy your own space. All three buildings have direct access onto the private walled courtyard where you can relax and enjoy the rustic heritage surrounds and views across the valley. Perhaps with a glass of local wine and a game of petanque (boules) prior to dinner with friends in the courtyard, or maybe before a short stroll up the Heysen Trail to the Scenic Hotel for dinner with sunset views across the city to the coast.

The Loft is the top floor of what is probably the oldest of the barns with views across the valley and Fourth Creek to Morialta Conservation Park. A large ensuite includes luxury amenities, the slow combustion wood heater provides warmth and an open plan lounge and kitchenette allow you to be completely self-contained. Provisions for a full cooked breakfast are provided for your first morning. Stay for two or more nights and you will receive a complimentary bottle of wine from one of our local vineyards.

If you’re visiting for one of Adelaide’s great festivals or events The Barns are only twenty minutes from the city; or if you need to take a break from the city you can enjoy the tranquillity of The Barns maybe using them as a base to explore other local towns and regions such as Stirling, Hahndorf or even the Barossa. The owners, who live separately on the property, are available if required to provide local knowledge or help make special arrangements.

So whether you’re looking for a quiet break on a long journey; an indulgent escape; a romantic getaway; a family holiday in The Hills; or even if you have no reason at all, your stay at Morialta Barns will make the occasion just that little bit extra special.

Quite and picturesque
We really enjoyed our stay. Even though that it was incredibly hot, the host did his absolute best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We were there during fire danger season, all precautions were made to ensure we were safe.

Fantastic stay in the Loft Room (even better than the photos)
The property is set in such a beautiful location in the Adelaide Hills where there is so much to do, but trust me you will not want to go out and about because the property and grounds are so beautiful, I didn't want to leave! My partner and I stayed over night in the loft room which felt so comfortable and luxurious. The property has so much history and character yet felt really modern and clean due to the renovation and upkeep. The owners were very easy to communicate with and accommodating which is always appreciated.

Loft Stay - 1 night
Loved, loved, loved, loved this property. Thoughtfully and beautifully decorated, the owners have thought of everything to make your stay magical. It was one of the nicest places we've ever stayed and was our anniversary present to each other! Could not have chosen anywhere better in South Australia. All we kept saying was, 'if only we could stay all weekend'. Excellent breakfast provisions, beautiful fire, stunning 4 poster bed. Gorgeous location in the Hills, close to pubs for dinner. So thoughtfully and tastefully renovated. The history of the place, just adds to the whole experience. Thankyou so much. We will DEFINATELY be back.

Beautiful place
Lovely place to stay, very cosy and beautifully set up, just a very minor, tiny complaint would be windows could do with a clean so you could really enjoy the beautiful views while laying in bed, but rest of the place was spotless. There are lots of nice little seating areas outside to really relax and just listen to the wildlife, very peaceful, thank you

Perfect getaway
We stayed at Morialta Barns for 1 night in The Loft, and we couldn't have asked for a better mini-getaway. We arrived on an extremely cold, wet and foggy evening and Steve directed us from arrival and made the entire process very easy, showing us where everything was and how to get the fire cranking. The Loft was truly a beautiful space to stay in - from the quality of the furnishings to the way it has been decorated, you can tell instantly that love has been put into this heritage property. The fireplace warmed the room quickly, and we had a great time relaxing with a glass of wine in the silence of the Adelaide Hills. The perfect getaway from city life (without being far from the city at all!). We are hoping to visit for another stay in the warmer months to make use of what looked like (through the fog!) a beautiful outdoor courtyard area and spectacular view. Thank you for a fantastic stay!

Stunning location, romantic getaway, friendly owner operated.
We stayed for 3 nights at Morialta Barns at the end of April, 2019. The property is a true country getaway - quiet and relaxing. Excellent walking tracks go through the property and we saw kangaroos and koalas. It is also close to many wineries and good restaurants. Steve the owner was friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this place.

Absolutely stunning
Absolutely loved everything about the Morialta Barns. Really interesting, unique and peaceful place. It’s just so lovely to see history restored. Would have really loved to read a detailed history of the place some of which Steve the owner touched on when we asked him. It was the only detail missing and I hope this gets completed when time permits.

Book it!
Morialta Barns have been renovated beautifully! Has everything we needed for a relaxing stay in the Adelaide Hills. Gorgeous grounds with wonderful views where you can sit with a glass of local wine and watch the birds while the sun goes down. We saw a koala in the wild occupying a tree next to The Scenic Hotel which is the nearest pub. The barns are close to everything - city, vineyards and beaches. Our hosts were helpful and unobtrusive so we felt we had privacy. Loved our stay and experienced that twinge of sadness at driving away.

Excellent property filled with modern and elegant features. Well designed for maximum comfort.
Beautifully restored heritage-listed property with outstanding bed and breakfast accommodation. Excellent and tastefully decorated. Hosts are very welcoming with generous breakfast provisions. Will certainly return to this unique place to stay so close to the Heyson Trail, Scenic Hotel and the city. Has stunning vistas. Great fire too!

Absolutely Amazing
My girlfriend and I stayed for a weekend and had an amazing time. The loft was very cosy with spectacular window views & wood fire to keep us warm in the night. The outside area was fit with tables where we could enjoy a glass of wine & witness the sunset. A 10/10 stay.

Lovely immaculate cottage
Beautiful setting stunning interior very clean and tidy inside and out but one fault would be is that more lighting is needed inside for reading and a light in the bathroom mirror would be handy. Bed was very comfortable. Owner Steve is very friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast provisions are left for you to cook at leisure. Would have been nice for more coffee pods available and a later checkout time.

A perfect romantic escape
Wow! A truly amazing place to stay. The barns have been lovingly restored and brought back to life without losing their heritage. We stayed in The Loft, which was a perfect romantic getaway, beautifully decorated and felt like we were in a corner of Tuscany! Unfortunately we were only there one night but was enough to completely unwind. The room was spotless with every thing required and a good choice of breakfast goodies! Owners really friendly and clearly very proud of the barns - lots of hard work has gone into the renovations. The local pub "The Scenic" is also fab only a short walk away (500m) and served great food with lots of choice and great views over the city. Will definitely be returning!

Lovely stay
We stayed in the loft and it was just super cosy and gorgeous. Lovely outdoor area and cosy fire inside. Location is perfect, a short and beautiful walk to the pub and near morialta conservation park where we spent half a day trekking around. We would definitely return.
