About this property

Rainforest Retreat - Welcome to Lake Quinault

Enjoy this ranch-style cedar rambler in Lake Quinault in the heart of the Quinault Rain Forest - Home to the Roosevelt Elk. The home sits on 5.2 acres on the South Shore Road of Lake Quinault (2.5 miles up the Quinault Valley from the Lake Quinault Lodge).

The mountain views are spectacular and the home is perfect for those that love the outdoors as the Quinault River, known for its world class fishery, flows directly behind the property. Our property boasts several resident elk herds, abundant wildlife and is a steelhead fisherman's dream. With four bedrooms and two bathrooms, the home is ready for a family or the next getaway retreat for those wanting out of the city lights to a place where the stars shine and the elk bugle.

The home is recently remodeled with a wood stove insert, hardwood floors and an incredible kitchen with double oven, gas range, stainless steel appliances and floor-to-ceiling custom cabinetry. The kitchen was designed for home-canning with deep sinks, long counters and a 6-top gas range.

The house includes two family rooms, a large laundry room and mudroom, and large cedar deck with built in propane and Stainless BBQ Enjoy the large backyard, which is perfect for wiffle ball and complete with a fire pit for those evenings of star watching, strumming the guitar, telling stories, roasting marshmallows, and eating smores!

The River's Edge also boasts a large back yard for tent camping. We have the perfect spot for a family reunion, weddings or large gatherings. *Inquire for special pricing for large parties and weddings.

The River's Edge is not on the river. We chose this house name because of the history of our home (It's quite a story, one that can be found in the welcome book upon arrival). The house is 2.5 miles from the lake and a short walk away to access to the river. E-mail us and we will let you know how to access the river bar for miles of exploring!

Unplug! Our internet is not fast or reliable. We have the best service as provided by CenturyLink, but sadly telecommunications has not reached our rural area yet and Internet service is average and below average for speed. We also experience frequent outages. The River's Edge is in the RAINFOREST at the edge of the Colonel Bob Wilderness area. There is fast and free DSL service at the Amanda Park Library 10 minutes up HWY 101.

Great getaway spot with kitchen
It's hard to find good lodging with a kitchen in this part of the world, but this place exceeded expectations. Great kitchen, well stocked, propane grill was fantastic, too. Dishwasher was a bit finicky, but otherwise, great stay.

Family Vacation
This home and space worked very well for our large family to gather from Vermont and Montana. We hiked, went swimming, explored the area and went to the coast. The distance for groceries and supplies is a bit far if you need quantity. But with some planning it worked out fine.

Well located for family gathering for hikingf and lake front water activities
a very well stocked kitchen with good sleeping provisions for three couples a toddler an infant and two teens (but not for 4 couples) . It is perfectly located for hikes around the Quinault and vicinity and swimming or boating on the lake nearby. Very clean well located home for a family gathering. We also enjoyed picking juicy plump blackberries along the property's edge to make the yummiest blackberry crisp and down the road to purchase fresh chicken and duck eggs.

Great place to get away!
My family rented this amazing place to have quality time together and to ring in the New Year. Kellie was a great host and the house was ready and was as advertised. The rambler was spacious, clean, well-stocked & had many amenities. The property is massive and had plenty of room for our pups to run around in. Having a couple of bald eagles fly around was very cool as well. Overall, we all enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider coming back again!

Peaceful Tranquility.
We went with my son and his wife. While they went out I stayed and enjoyed the property, read and relaxed. From the back deck I saw a black bear wondering through. I felt like I was going home to my childhood. Thank you! We will be back :)

Graduation Weekend
Spent graduation weekend exploring the surrounding areas of Lake Quinault and multiple beaches. The location of this property is perfect. Nice and quiet and couldn’t ask for a more tranquil setting to decompress and sit around with family. We missed the Elk bedding down in the field by mere hours. Really connected with this owner’s testimony and history of the house. We would definitely return.

Family vacation
We enjoyed our stay. It's hard to find a property that will have 14 people and on such short notice. The only issue we had was with getting enough hot water. I'm not sure if there is something wrong with the water heater or what the problem was. We had multiple cold showers. But the enjoyment we had outweighed all else.

I think Kellie has spoiled us for all future VRBO rentals!
This is a beautiful home, perfectly located for our hikes around the Olympic Peninsula. It was quiet, the beds were comfortable, and we really appreciated that all of the bedding and towels were washed with unscented detergent. 3 things really set this house apart from other places we have stayed in the past: 1) this is a *home* where Kellie and her family lived, and it shows - it just feels, well, homier than many places that feel like they were furnished and decorated as rentals, but don't feel like they were ever lived in; 2) the place is amazingly well-stocked - all the kitchen utensils and appliances you could want and then some, much more generously stocked with non-perishable foods and spices than we've seen elsewhere, and lots of little things like a big stash of flashlights, enough so everyone could have one if the power went out; 3) Kellie was amazingly friendly and instantly responsive when a few minor questions came up while we were there and when we contacted her a week later about an item we thought we might have left there. We are very, very happy to have found such a wonderful place to stay.

Nice But No Internet
While not exactly what we expected, we had a fantastic time at this property. It was clean and close to hiking trails & gorgeous waterfalls. We also enjoyed the fire pit for s’mores :) However, the property advertised internet, but it was so slow it was useless. This along with no cell service for phones made it difficult for those in our party who had to keep up with remote work. The kitchen was stocked with everything which was perfect! Although, most pans were in need of replacing since all of the Teflon was flaking off into our food. Keeping all this in mind, we would definitely recommend this location.

Wonderful home away from home
We stayed 2 nights, our family consisted of 6 adults (age range 20-62) a teen & a toddler. Everyone felt comfortable & happy in the home. I brought plenty of toys for my toddler, we also brought an outdoor game for the adults & 2 portable hammocks. There was plenty of outdoor seats (nice camping chairs & a few plastic ones) the deck is pretty large but we mostly sat & played in the grassy area. The living room was spacious & comfortable to watch a show or movies. We watched “Harry & the Henderson’s” (we brought it) which is a perfect theme for the area as it’s a Seattle area (friendly Sasquatch) movie with some Olympic nation parks footage. The beds were comfortable although an adult wouldn’t be comfortable in one of the twin beds, my sister went to the couch to sleep. There is plenty of kitchen space & utensils to make meals. On our stay we visited Ruby beach the Hoh rainforest & the giant spruce (perfect short flat trail for a 1 & 1/2 year old) also stopped in at the Quinalt Lodge to see the historic building.

Thanksgiving
This setting was everything we could have hoped for and more. We spent our Thanksgiving vacation here and it was truly perfect. We had absolutely everything we needed. My brother brought his star link so we were able to watch movies and kids were able to use the internet for games and what not. We didn’t have it the first day which was nice because it forced the kids to really hang with us. I could have gone without but if you can’t I’d suggest bringing that. This place was absolutely amazing. All of it.. The double ovens really helped for Thanksgiving. All of it was amazing. We are so grateful and thankful for the experience.

Perfect place for a family gathering
We were so happy to find this place. It had plenty of space for our large group, including setting up a few tents along the side of the meadow. Big, well stocked kitchen for preparing lots of food. And lots of tables and chairs available for setting up to eat outside on the deck. The grill was plenty big and cooked our dinner meats perfectly! There were also lots of indoor spaces for hanging out in smaller groups after it got dark. And the stars were amazing! The Milky Way was easy to see and we saw quite a few shooting stars. All in all it exceeded all of our expectations and was the perfect place for us to gather.

Good location for rainforest exploring.
Good location for rainforest exploring and Lake Quinault area. Saw a herd of Rosevelt Elk just down the road one day. Beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was supplied well for doing all the cooking for our stay. Liked the seating and table area by the kitchen for hanging out. The instant water heater worked well but was noisy if you use the bedroom closest to the laundry area. We used the fans provided to help cool the place when we returned from a day out. Lighting over the stove is poor and could have used brighter light bulbs in the lights in the living area. Do not count on any internet or cell phone reception. The owner did contact their service for us and had a family member stop by but it never got better. Even had issues with the land line.

About the host

The Daniels Family - Corey and Kellie Daniels and our four sons, Cameron (not shown in this picture away at college) Cole, Carson and Casey.

In 2002, Corey and I (both avid outdoor enthusiasts) sold our Sammamish home, quit our jobs and moved to Lake Quinault to escape the 'rat race' and live in God's country where we wanted to raise our boys. Yes, our Seattle friends thought we were crazy (actually they thought we had lost our minds!) until they came to visit and didn't want to leave!

Corey and the boys and I have spent the last several years living the dream until recently when Corey's job forced a move. Determined to keep our little piece of heaven so that we could return as often as possible, we decided that our best option was to share our home with others wanting the same thing we did - to escape the city lights to a place where the stars shine and the elk bugle. It was an easy decision and we only hope you and yours will enjoy it as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

The River's Edge home is Lake Quinault's #1 Get-Away Retreat.

Our property is home to several resident elk herds in the Quinault Valley. The elk are probably our favorite feature and we never get tired of seeing them. Herds as large as 50 roam the Quinault Valley throughout the year. There is nothing better than sitting on our deck with a cup of coffee watching the young elk calves play in our field on a warm summer morning.

Our property is the largest rental property in the Lake Quinault area and we're pleased to be able to share it. Four bedrooms, two baths, two family rooms, a state of the art kitchen, large laundry room, office and the cozy rock fireplace with wood stove insert make this a year-around retreat.

Each season brings a new experience and we are happy to share.

*World Class Steelhead Sport Fishery out our back door!

*Bald Eagle Viewing like you have ever seen before.

*Resident Roosevelt Elk herds and Wildlife Photography are a daily adventure.

*Hiking and Nature Trails into the Olympic National Park, Colonel Bob Wilderness and USFS are within walking distance from our home.

*Lake Quinault is home to the Southern Entrance of the Olympic National Park and our property is on the famous 31 mile Quinault loop drive where you will enjoy the Quinault Rain Forest and all its wonders.

*Our home is only 2.5 miles from the Historic Lake Quinault Lodge and 1.5 miles from the World's Largest Spruce Tree located at the Rain Forest Resort and Salmon House Restaurant.

*Writer's Retreat. Our home serves as the ultimate writer's retreat. Book an extended stay and enjoy the tranquil setting as you dig deep and write your next novel. Our home is equipped with WI-FI. Yes, our home is the perfect get-away for anyone with a dream and story to tell.

Our home is far from the city lights, interstate, traffic jams and 3 hour commute. Join us where the air is clean, stars shine and elk bugle!

What makes this property unique

Lake Quinault's #1 Get-Away Retreat!

Enjoy steelhead fishing on the Upper Quinault right out our back door from December to March. The Upper Quinault River is known for its World Class sport fishery. Our favorite guides live in the area and we would be honored to set you up with a great trip. Weekly fishing trips are also available and our home serves as a great 'home base' if you seek to fish the other popular Olympic Peninsula Rivers including the Hoh, Clearwater, Sol Duc or Lower Quinault River. Fly fishing is becoming ever so popular and our property is just a short 5 minute walk to the rivers edge.

Lake Quinault is home to the Roosevelt Elk. You can view the resident elk herds year-around. April and May kick off the spring season when the grass grows and the elk emerge in the many fields on the South Shore Road including our property where the elk slumber just off the rivers edge. Grab your camera and join us for an incredible opportunity to hike, explore and view the Quinault Rain Forest and abundant wildlife in our area.

May kicks off our peak season. Four bedroom, 2 bath, two family rooms, large laundry room and mud room, office and large cedar deck with built in propane and Stainless BBQ make this Lake Quinault's #1 Get-Away retreat.

The Quinault Rain Forest is home to the Southern entrance of the Olympic National Park. Hike and explore our Temperate Rain Forest and all its wonders. Day hikes, river walks, and picnics at the river's edge are all a must do while staying at our beautiful home.
