About this property

Breathtaking Lake-View Patagonia Farm Home In Spectacular Southern Chile

Enjoy breathtaking Patagonian beauty with all the comforts of home!

MonteLago is a spectacular, 300-acre Patagonian country home and working farm in Chile's famous Lakes Region, overlooking stunning Lake Riñihue and its towering volcanoes, Mocho & Choshuenco. This once-in-a-lifetime setting offers magnificent beauty and complete tranquility (the nearest neighbor is a mile away!) all within easy reach of the region's many natural attractions.

The property’s owners (Chileans who resided in the United States for 21 years) designed MonteLago to be a true oasis: A solid comfortable home within a unique expanse of unspoiled nature. (All photos pictured come from the property).

Built with native materials in the style of the Spanish and German colonial residences of the region, the nearly 4,000 square home features:
-- 4 bedrooms, each with its own en suite bath, sleeping up to 6 people;
-- Gorgeous master bedroom with dramatic, wrap-around lake views and its own fireplace;
-- 3 large, wood-burning fireplaces throughout the home;
-- Library/family room with Satellite TV, English-language books, movies and games;
-- Kitchen features modern appliances, including dishwasher, microwave and both a gas and separate wood-burning stove (for wintertime);
-- Central heating, provided by wood-burning furnace;
-- Seasonal produce/herbs from our garden, eggs from our chickens, and fresh bread baked daily (upon request);
-- Ample two-car garage;
-- Washing machine; and
-- Full-time caretaker on hand to be of help (he and a farmhand live in separate premises on the property and studiously preserve your privacy).

GETTING AROUND:

MonteLago is located within easy reach of southern Chile's transportation hubs and visitor attractions:
-- 45 minutes' drive from the town of Los Lagos (accessible by overnight sleep bus from Santiago);
-- 90 minutes' drive from Valdivia, the charming capital of Chile’s Rivers Region (daily flights and overnight sleep bus from Santiago); and
-- 2.5 hours from Puerto Montt, the picturesque fishing hub and capital of Chile's Lakes Region, as well as connection point to the iconic island of Chiloe (daily flights and overnight sleep bus from Santiago to Puerto Montt).

If you are driving to the property, please note that MonteLago is located atop a hill and 4-wheel drive vehicles are recommended.

Majestic surroundings

Wonderful family time at this remote, beautiful setting. The views were unbeatable- pictures truly do not do it justice. The home itself is gorgeous. You can hear the two waterfalls and see a panoramic view of the lake from the master bedroom. The star gazing alone made the trek worth it. Our kids enjoyed seeing the cows milked, picking raspberries, eating fresh sopapillas and avoiding the roof with our frisbee. Wish we had stayed longer!

MonteLago experience

This vacation was truly exceptional in many respects. When entering the premises one already gets inpired about breathtaking views of lake and mountains. The house is stylish but practical. Not too big to get lost; however, each member of even a large family can get some privacy if needed. Morning coffee at the terrace and late night dinner in the garden were very romantic and inspiring. And there is a garden. Those who love fresh green organic veggies do not have to disappoint. As an additional bonus, you get almost no light pollution there. Thus, do not forget to check out southerly sky! Moreover, housekeepers are very friendly and helpful. And finally if you stay there long enough, you feel like old times are coming back. No pointless rush created by our virtual machines but a quiet diel rythm of nature instead. Fully recommend!

For people who love peace and beauty, Montelago is fantastic. From the house, there are spectacular views during the day of pristine lake and snow-capped mountains, and at night all the constellations of the southern sky. The house is big, beautiful, comfortable, and equipped with everything a visitor needs to rest and relax. The market garden is a delight, with fresh fruits and vegetables every day. The only caution is that options for shopping in the village of Rinihue are limited, so visitors should bring what they need.
