About this property

Fabulous Country Stay on New England cattle & sheep property

The Shearers Lodge is set in a wonderful location fronting the Wellingrove Creek. Sitting on the front verandah, the quaint Matheson Uniting Church is in full view with the backdrop looking down the Matheson Valley between the Waterloo Range. The accommodation was originally the shearers quarters for the working shearing teams on Waterloo Station property. The building is now fully restored, with of course, much more luxury!

The space

The Shearers Lodge is set in its own private surrounding, and close to the old historic shearing shed. The accommodation is perfect for couples or family and group bookings. A group minimum of 4 rooms (8 guests in 4 rooms) is required for exclusive use of the Shearer's Lodge. With the perfect combination of classical style and contemporary comforts, there is access to a fully equipped modern kitchen and lodge room with an amazing stone fireplace. Relax and enjoy what this historic rural property has to offer. Waterloo Station is a great place to explore, with plenty of short walks or for the more energetic, hiking around the hills and ranges wildlife spotting or perhaps you would like to try your hand at fossicking, fishing or enjoying the beautiful Wellingrove Creek flowing through the property. Plenty of lovely swimming holes with turtles, platypus and various fish species in abundance. Fantastic for keen photographers or artists, yoga, well-being groups as well as cycling, car or any other special interest groups. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram @waterloocountryaccommodation A sympathetic restoration undertaken in 2017 on the authentic shearers accommodation has retained the original ambience from a bygone era. The "never been painted walls" add a wonderful ambience to every room.

Lovely place but needs closer attention to detail.
We had a lovely family get together at the house after having troubles with the booking - insure that you mention how many bedrooms you want rather than just tell how many people other you may get a nasty financial surprise. The place is lovely and the booking hiccups were forgotten when i walked in. There are problems, however, including finding a REALLY dirty oven, dirt under kitchen cabinetry (looking for an earring back), melted ice cream in some of the freezer drawers (the fridge was not cold when we arrived), and, the copious serving plates were grubby including a few dead blowflies amongst them. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean as was the living room. The location is lovely. Also, there were no breakfast provisions despite it being stated as being provided.

Fabulous weekend getaway for a group
We had the most wonderful weekend gathering at Waterloo. The Quarters have been beautifully restored, with every modern luxury, whilst still maintaining the charm of the old building. We loved all the details, the cleanliness, the well-equipped kitchen, the huge fireplace and living space. This is just the best place to gather with a large group. We will be back. Thank you Deb. X

Escape o the country
What can I say ... The moment we arrived, it felt like home . Deb has done a wonderfull job on the restoration of the shearer lodgings, its abosolutly breathtaking when you walk into the kitchen which was fully equiped , the lounge room and fire place is to die for .Our family of 9 from the ages of 6 mths to 60+ all enjoyed the peace and quiet. The yard is big enough for the children to play and fully fenced so it was a no worries mate situation , just like the old days. Exploring the shearers shed and surrounds is a must do. But the highlight of the whole experience was the sapphire fossicking , everybody got so into it that the next day the 2 year old said , are we going digging . And from then on it was called the DIG . Which we did each morning . I am sure we will be back very soon . Thank you Deb for letting us stay at your beautiful property. Christine Johnston

Great setting, perfect weather, excellent facilities.
Really enjoyed the bird life and peace & quiet. Had a great time fossicking in the nearby creek. It was only a short drive through the spectacular New England countryside to the historic towns of Glen Innes and Inverell. Great place to get away from it all for some R&R.
