Twickenham House
The most breathtaking estate in the high country, nestled at 4600', offers that rare assemblage of a true private sanctuary. Just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, the estate has over 400 acres of park-like grounds, threaded by rushing water, ponds, and abundant wildlife. A beautifully manicured lawn surrounds Twickenham House with spectacular mountain views for a ceremony site or receptions.

The charming Old English Manor boasts more than 11,000 square feet of exquisitely finished living space designed for entertaining. Just a step away is a spacious guest cottage and 3800 square foot TWICKENHAM HALL for events. Together, the estate can accommodate 40 overnight guests comfortably, and TWICKENHAM HALL will serve up to 230 guests. Included are the following amenities in the main house: a commercial kitchen; two additional kitchens; a spa with hot tub, steam room, sauna, and indoor endless pool; fitness facility; library with billiards; movie theatre and more. The guesthouse has additional sleeping.

TWICKENHAM HALL has 3800 sq' of gorgeous event space with 40' ceilings, 20' fireplace that burns 8' logs, lovely chandeliers, restrooms, serving bar, 2200 square feet decks, and much more.

Twickenham House, Estate and Hall, located on Phoenix Mountain, overlooks the historic village of Jefferson, NC, among the famed Blue Ridge Mountains. Phoenix Mountain is also known as 'the Rocky Mountain of the East' due to its 1.6-mile cliff face. Phoenix is covered with a diverse mix of vegetation resulting from its high-altitude, unique topography, snowy winters and temperate summers. It is also boasts spectacular geological formations and a broad array of indigenous wildlife including white tail deer, black bear, wild turkey, pheasant, grouse and three and half miles of native trout streams. In addition, the mountain is home to an unusual high-altitude fen that feeds the trout streams on the property.

Among the fauna are numerous wild orchids and the prized Morel mushrooms. For years botanists have studied the creeping aven, a rare plant that was prevalent during the Ice Age and now only exists on the cliffs of Phoenix Mountain and Europe.

The grounds are great for walking, hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, fishing in the stocked pond or for native trout in the streams. There are 50-mile long-range views from the terrace with fireplace built into the cliffs. Stunning sunsets and sunrises await you.

The estate is available for four or more days, allowing time to enjoy your guests and truly embrace every moment of your wedding or event activities. Relax and enjoy family and friends or experience great bonding as you gather together for a truly memorable time.

Twickenham is a doable destination wedding/event. Guests will gather at the estate for the rehearsal dinner, wedding, and reception, even a send off breakfast. The grounds boast many different wedding sites.

The surrounding area offers many cultural and recreational experiences. Nearby villages of Jefferson, Glendale Springs, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk represent the historic center of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Mount Jefferson, Mount Rogers, the River (designated National Heritage River by President Clinton) and New River State Park are additional nearby natural attractions.

Though worlds away from traffic and city congestion, this legendary estate is conveniently sited within 3 miles of Ashe County Regional Airport and villages of Jefferson and West Jefferson, less than 10 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway, 20 miles from Boone and just 119 miles from Charlotte.

Twickenham is also easily accessible by plane, as it is located three miles from Ashe County Airport, 5000' runway, capable of landing most private jets including Falcon 50's, Beech jets, Citations and Hawkers.

Pollock Family Vacation
My family rented the Twickenham House for an extended family vacation. There were 20 adults and 7 kids with our group and the house comfortably accommodated all of us. The home itself and surrounding views from the estate were magnificent. As with any rental, there are always a few areas of improvement that existed. Two of the showers did not work, the Wii was not available due to it being broken, and only one ping pong padded was found so it could not be used. During our stay, the heater for part of the house did malfunction but the groundskeeper responded to our call and repairs were made in a timely fashion. Overall, staying at the Twickenham House was a wonderful experience and I wouldn't think twice about staying there again.

Absolutely Amazing!
From the moment that we arrived, everything seemed like it came out of a fairy tale. The buildings were clean and orderly and ready for our use, there were some minor maintenance issues; however they were quickly addressed. The staff was friendly and helpful when needed. The day of the wedding the staff all pitched in to be sure that everything went smoothly, including accommodating several last minute changes. The property was gorgeous and everything we had hoped for, we could not have asked for a better wedding and accompanying weekend. Thanks again for everything, and making our weekend so memorable and special!

Great!
Perfect venue for our wedding. Gave 4 stars because WiFi unavailable. Even though the WiFi was out for the weekend, it allowed our families to "disconnect" and focus on communicating with each other!

Our family gathered at the house for my daughter's wedding. It was just wonderful. The grounds were impeccable, reception hall was beautiful, and the main house and cottage amazing. Our guests had a wonderful time. I recommend this venue.

Fairytale Wedding
This venue is unbelievably beautiful. We love how secluded it is, making guest feel like they are away in their own little world. The homes where both beautifully decorated and well equipped to handle all of our needs. Having multiple, large, well equipped kitchens was a huge plus for our group! We loved having everything there in one location. Our guest thoroughly enjoyed all the different features Twickenham has to offer. From short hikes to take in the views, to the media room, and the play room, there was plenty to keep everyone busy. The staff was very thorough and helped us make our stay and our wedding perfect. We cannot thank Jocelyn enough for all of her help. You will not be disappointed with this beautiful home tucked neatly away in the NC mountains!

Wedding in a Cloud!
The venue was absolutely gorgeous and we had a wonderful weekend, despite some sub-optimal weather on our wedding day. There were a lot of staffing and rule changes during our planning process but after some initial bumps the staff handled everything very well. The event manager in particular was extremely helpful and supportive, and even offered to be our day-of coordinator (which she did splendidly)! The staff provided by the venue were fantastic and a pleasure to work with. It was an unforgettable day and I can assure you that no matter what the weather conditions are you will have a gorgeous wedding here! The houses were very well kept, and the only issue we had was the water shutting off but the staff was very responsive in helping us. The kids adored the playroom, and the grown-ups loved the whole house! The massage chair was a definite life-saver the day after the wedding. I had a great time and didn't hear any complaints from my guests so all-in-all I highly recommend!

Outstanding winter getaway!
While most of what we found for reviews revolved around weddings, we chose the property for a weekend getaway for several families. We spent three nights at Twickenham during winter storm Jonas '16 - 12 adults and 17 kids (age 6-15). A wonderful time was had by all! The owner contacted us directly and was very gracious and helpful given the concern about winter weather. The property is remotely located at the top of a 2 mile winding road; when they tell you to have 4WD and chains during foul weather, they mean it! If you expect snow, take sleds, even if it's just adults! The path up the mountain is the perfect sledding trail. The house had ample room for everyone to spend time together, while also providing plenty of space to get away. The library was a favorite spot for the adults, as was the large living room. The kids LOVED the theatre room and the pool. The kitchen was a bit small for a large group but not so small as to make it a problem. And we were very pleased with how well stocked the kitchen was! We had access to every pot, pan, appliance and utensil we could think of. Choosing the best bedroom was hard! They were all beautiful. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of towels. The kids could not have been happier in the large bunk rooms. (FYI - We found that we could keep the house warmer at night if we closed the fireplaces.) We only had access to one washer and one dryer, which was not a problem for our group. The walk to the top of the mountain was easy and well worth it for the extraordinary view. We had a problem with the hot water and the TV reception in Twinkie which could not be addressed due to foul weather. The house could use a little TLC - mostly cosmetic issues like cracked window panes, wobbly chairs, damaged walls - all typical of a rental or an older home. While the max occupancy is 40, and there are certainly beds to accommodate that, 40 could feel tight, especially if all 40 were adults. I highly recommend this property for a wedding or a getaway for a large group. We all hope to return next year. A FANTASTIC vacation.

Church Retreat
We had a wonderful time. The houses were warm and welcoming. We enjoyed fires in the fireplaces, the pool and media room, as well as all the other amenities and comforts of the rest of the home. We had a number of children and there was something for everyone. Many of us went for a hike and the views were amazing and breathtaking. We were so thankful for the full kitchen and spacious home for our group.

disappointed
the positives are this is a beautiful location and the 2 houses combined are large enough for 20 people. The following is what happened during our stay (18 people family reunion from all around the country): We arrived at 5:30 pm and there were 2 cleaning people still cleaning both houses. It looked like the prior guests may have left more of a mess than normal. we were advised they had 40! guests. to me that is far too many for this property. when the cleaning people left this is what we found. The old coffee and grinds were still in the pot, when my brother moved it it spilled on him and the wood floor in the kitchen. when we cleaned up the floor, it was filthy. I am guessing they just sweep the floor, don't ever mop it. There was a lot of black hair in one of the tubs in the main house and on the walls of the shower. The property is not cheap so we are thinking this is not acceptable for this much money. Other things that were wrong: the guest house had no smoke detectors. there had been 3, but they were removed for a paint job and never replaced. the 2nd floor a/c unit in the main house was broken, so the first few days it was very warm to sleep. There was no direct tv in the guest house, (thus there was no tv at all). There is also no internet in the guest house, I don't believe this was made clear in their listing. The sink disposal did not work in the guest house. All this would be bad enough, as we had to spend the first few days trying to get them to address these issues, but the most annoying part was that the manager Jo Lynn told us when she left on the first day to call her anytime, anywhere. I guess she just meant call her and go to voicemail, and then she wouldn't be calling back. Several calls went unanswered. Finally ricardo, the maintenance man showed up on Tuesday, and when he saw our frustration he called jo lynn and then she returned our call. During that call she said she couldt call the night befor due to a storm? Funny we were able to leave her a message during that same rainstorm. She must have then got the cable guy finally and he showed up Thursday, and he advised the cable had been out for awhile, I guess it was never set up. We are supposed to be on vacation and we are spending the firs 2-3 days trying to get things fixed, get them to respond, I felt like a general contractor, this was very annoying to say the least. My overall thought is that they don't stay on top of the maintenance of the property

We LOVED our vacation at Twickenham!
This past Christmas we spent a magical time at Twickenham. The house was warm and welcoming with fires already lit in the Great Rooms when we arrived. The house was large enough for us to comfortably host extended family for our holiday celebrations. There was something for everyone. Hiking and incredible grounds for me and my family, a state of the art media room for my brother in law's family, and a relaxing sauna/garden room for my in-laws.

Beautiful Retreat
This was a beautiful and quiet retreat! We really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful views. The full kitchen is amazing. We used it as a retreat for our leadership team. It was so nice to have so many beds. Spacious yet homey. Could be perfect for a family reunion or other get away.

Beautiful location/Poorly maintained
My family and I rented both the main house and guest house for a family reunion with 24 people staying at Twickenham. The location and scenery are incredible. Sadly the house and the owners left much to be desired. The door to the basement of the guest house was taped up and there were air fresheners all over trying to mask the smell of a dead animal they were unable to locate. The smell of mold matched the smell of dead animal. The guest house was dirty, it had no coffee pot or toaster, the furniture was in need of repair and the sofa just had a towel thrown over the bottom bare cushion. The guest house had no wifi and the main house only had it on the main floor in certain areas. The main house was in a little better shape but was filthy. My bathroom had months of green mold and a large amount of black hair all over the shower; pictures of this were shown to the owner who made excuses and promises that were never realized. The majority of all furniture was in disrepair; there was an oversized teddy bear in the playroom with a hole in the crotch with stuffing coming out of it, toilet seats with chunks missing, treadmill didn't work. The "gourmet" kitchen is no longer gourmet; not one sharp knife, dishwasher falling out of the cabinet, water leaking from underneath the refrigerator, filthy drawers and cabinets, no blender, no food processor, no baking pans or sheets, no wine opener. We were there for a week over 4th of July; there was no propane for the gas grill. When I called the owner about this fact, he never apologized and he told me to drive to a local store to buy some. My niece, nephew and thier 3 children had to go to a hotel in Boone because they couldn't stay in the guest house. The owner promised to get them a 4 bedroom condo a mile from the house. When they arrived the condo was a 2 bedroom full of empty beer bottles and dirty ashtrays. The owners did pay for thier hotel but we have this reunion every 2 years and the reason we chose Twickenham was specifically that we could all be together. Again, the location is stunning and we enjoyed our time there. Watching the a World Cup in the theatre room was very cool, the children loved the playroom, the vistas from the overlook were breath taking and we played badminton, croquet and enjoyed the fire pit every night. The house was spectacular in its day but the inside has not been maintained or cleaned properly between guests. The owners need to learn about hospitality or hire someone who does.

40th Birthday retreat
I hosted a birthday party for my husband's 40th birthday with 8 families, including children and it was the most perfect location! There was something for everyone to do, and the kids loved playing outside on the lawn, watching movies in the theater, playing in the playroom. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed to cook for our group! The property was very well maintained, with everything we needed and the property managers couldn't have been more helpful to assist us with what we needed for the long weekend!

Young Moms Retreat
What a beautiful place to stay! We take a group of young moms to Twickenham each year and it is peaceful, relaxing and restful. The bedrooms are large and beautifully decorated with lovely bathrooms. (I love the towel warmers.) This home would be a spectacular place to have a wedding, women's retreat, or family reunion. There is something here for everyone. Don't forget to bring comfortable shoes so you can walk around the property as the views are breathtaking. I have also been at Twickenham during the holidays and the Christmas decorations are stunning. I highly recommend this home for your next vacation stay.

Phenomenal Venue and Communication
My fiance and I considered Twickenham for our wedding in 2014, and although we decided to go in a different direction, I couldn't say enough great things about the venue and its managers. The communication was timely and thorough, and they were very flexible and understanding when we decided on a different place. Our visit to Twickenham was perfect - we arrived as the house was being prepared for visitors, and they were lighting fires in fireplaces and arranging fresh flowers to make their arrival perfect. A local wedding planner walked us through the house and around the grounds to explain how folks have used the venue for events in the past which was extremely helpful. She even recommended a great place for lunch! You will not be disappointed with this house!!!

A perfect mountain retreat!
We could not have asked for a more perfect place for our holiday gathering! The estate is beautiful, well maintained, luxurious yet comfortable. The decor exceeds expectations and the perfectly appointed kitchen is a joy to cook in! After a perfect night's sleep in the comfortable beds, we hiked to a beautiful mountaintop with an amazing view. It doesn't get any better than this!
