The Red Cottage is located equally between the towns of Black Mountain and Montreat. Less than 1 mile in either direction you will find many attractions that are normally featured in larger cities.
Downtown Black Mountain has outstanding gift shops, restaurants, taverns, a Farmers Market, sweets, coffee shops, and much, much more. Within a short distance, you will find the Black Mountain Golf Course and mini golf for kids of all ages. Lake Tomahawk has an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, croquet court, free concerts, and a facility that can be rented for private events. Seasonal festivals & attractions, such as The Lake Eden Arts Festival (LEAF), Sourwood Festival, and Spartan Obstacle Races are very popular!
Montreat College is an independent, Christian based 4-year liberal arts school and their Conference Center hosts religious conferences throughout the year. Montreat also has great hiking/biking trails, creeks, and preserved woodland areas for your outdoor fun.
There are churches of various denominations that are just a short walk from The Red Cottage.
Visit during the fall and take your car, motorcycle, or bicycle along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The spectacular views, waterfalls, and brilliant colors of the falls leaves are sights that you wouldn't want to miss out on!
If you choose to venture out for the big city, historical Asheville is just 15 miles west on I-40! Asheville also offers many attractions -The Arboretum, Biltmore House, Thomas Wolfe Center, Civic Center, River Arts District, museum, playhouses, shopping malls... The 'Drum Circle' and 'Friday-After-5' are annual family events in downtown Asheville during the late spring and summer months. Specialty shops and breweries are plentiful.
For outdoor adventures, we have countless hiking and biking trails, rock climbing, and skiing. Nearby ziplines, paddling, camping, fishing, WNC Nature Center... The list goes on & on! We will have lots of information and brochures available to you!
