What a fantastic space to relax and unwind. Lovely walks in the neighborhood, lots of fun farm animals. The cottage is perfect! I have to say that it is the best stocked VRBO I have ever stayed in. What a fantastic kitchen! The owners are lovely and incredibly responsive. I loved my time here!!!
Really beautiful area, the loft was perfect size, very comfortable, well appointed kitchen with lovely touches. The bathroom was great and the beds were comfortable and the room nicely decorated. The hosts were great and the fresh eggs were a lovely touch and delicious! Would stay here again!
We had a great stay in the loft. One of the prettiest decors I’ve had in a vaca rent property. Every detail was spot on. Beds were comfy. Location was great for us.
Wonderful property close to Bellingham and Mt Baker
We love staying at Jill’s wonderful barn. It’s so comfortable, clean, and well appointed. She is a really kind host who always lets our young son help with the farm chores. It’s a great location for visiting Bellingham or hiking at Mt. Baker.
The farm was everything we thought it would be—from staying in a quaint farmhouse filled with ALL the amenities you could imagine, to the peace-filled atmosphere, to the farm fresh eggs the owners provided. We stayed here for 2 nights, but could have easily stayed a week and still not want to leave. The hosts were so gracious and took our 2 young boys around the farm and let them see how it all works. We had the best stay and wouldn’t hesitate to come back.
Our family had a beautiful stay. What these gracious hosts have created on their farm feels incredibly special, and we in turn felt blessed to borrow a slice of country life for a weekend. Our children felt safe and happy. They especially loved their time with the animals. I enjoyed cooking, relaxing, and reading. I would be remiss if I left out our appreciation for Jill's sense of style and the all the little touches. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
This is my third time staying at this property. It is peaceful, beautiful, well-appointed and all around lovely. Can't recommend it enough, especially if you like being out in the country and hearing the sounds of nature :)
We had a very enjoyable month-long stay at the red barn loft. The main living space is cozy and well-appointed, the kitchen is extremely well-stocked, and the 2 bedrooms are very comfortable. We had a great time feeding the chickens and the horses. Barkley Village in Bellingham is only 10 minutes away, so groceries, restaurants, and other amenities are relatively close by. The Rome Store is a great place for pizza, beer and other essentials and it is just a mile from the farm. Jill was a great host—very responsive to any requests we had and full of helpful suggestions. She made us feel very welcome. This ranks up at the top of our list for all-time best VRBO rentals. Highly recommended!
All of the amazing reviews are true! We spent a week over
Thanksgiving at the loft and had a great time. We had everything we needed and then some - fresh eggs every morning, and Jill even brought us over a delicious homemade pie on Thanksgiving day. Above and beyond. Having all of the animals around was a huge bonus. We would definitely stay again!
Beautiful and high end furnishings…every need or want has been thought of…peaceful and quiet country setting…would definitely stay there again if visiting the area and fresh eggs supplied for breakfasts!
The host thought of everything! (I am not exaggerating.) This was an extremely comfy and pleasant place to stay. I normally sleep 5-6 hours a night - averaged 9 here… And I have never felt comfy going barefoot in a vacation rental, but this was so clean… yep. Went barefoot.
Jill’s extra touches made our anniversary stay extra special. We came home well rested and with a new collection of happy memories.
My wife and I loved everything about this location! The loft was very clean and comfortable, and the Holmes’ went out of their way to make everything feel welcoming. We loved being able to meet the animals, and the fresh eggs from the farm hens were delicious! We hope to return someday soon!
We couldn’t have found a better place to stay. Nestled in a beautiful, bucolic setting, the loft has so much to offer both inside and out.
Inside it is a charming and supremely comfortable space.
The bathroom is luxurious with its double sinks, free-standing bathtub and rain-head shower.
The kitchen is very well equipped, and the host, Jill keeps the pantry stocked with anything you could possibly want or need.
Outside the views are wonderful, and the horses, chickens, cats, geese and the occasional Corgi are a treat to see and interact with.
It’s a great location that’s convenient to Bellingham as well as mountain trails.
Jill is an amazing, friendly, charming and informative host. We enjoyed chatting with her.
We’d definitely stay here again!
Very comfortable and clean space. Location is outside of town, but peaceful and not too far away. Host was very responsive and helpful. We loved the fresh eggs!
A perfect slice of farm life just moments from the city. Would highly recommend this stay to couples & families looking for a quiet place to stay with all the classic farmhouse charm. Clean and comfortable with beautiful grounds & gardens and an array of farm critters to welcome you…and farm-fresh eggs for breakfast!
WOW. The Red Barn Loft is a beautiful property. The Loft itself, the grounds and the animals. The pictures and descriptions are accurate, but do not do justice to the property. Jill is a great, responsive, communicative host and her attention to details in the Loft is the best we have seen. The furnishings are very nice and functional. Every time we thought "wonder if there is a (pick a utensil, cleaning supply, bowl, pan, etc.)" we found it. Jill was so thoughtful on how she laid out and equipped the Loft. Best completely furnished rental we have ever had. In a peaceful valley, the location is private and gorgeous but close to Bellingham. About 5-6 miles from Barkley Village. Enjoyed being around the animals and the visiting grandsons loved on the patient, gentle cats.
The property is located near lots of hiking and just outside of Bellingham with easy access to activities. Such a peaceful get-a-way. We loved seeing and meeting all the animals and the fresh farm eggs were so tasty. This was our second stay at this property and would rent again if back in the area.
This was my second time staying at this property, and it was just as delightful as the first. The loft was the perfect size for our family of three, and very well stocked and maintained. Everything was comfortable, clean, and just right. We were even able to bake a cake primarily with ingredients available there (featuring fresh eggs from Jill's hens)!
The hosts, Jill and her husband, were so welcoming and kind, evening digging their children's old tricycle out of the barn for our son to ride on and letting him help with farm chores (which he loved!). The surrounding area is beautiful, with plenty to do and see. We greatly look forward to our next visit!
This was an exceptional stay. The property and interior were spotless, well designed, and extremely comfortable. This will be our go-to choice any time we are in the area.

About the host
Hosted by Jill Holmes
Hello our names are Fred and Jill and we are excited to have you at the Red Barn Loft. We are two professionals who moved to the Bellingham Area in 1992. We hail from Arizona and Connecticut respectively and made the trek to the Pacific Northwest after college in search of a home. We built our house with two friends and raised two boys on the property.
Why they chose this property
Almost a quarter century ago we were attracted to rural beauty of the Squalicum Valley as a place to build our home and our family, and we haven't left since!
What makes this property unique
The biggest benefit of the loft is the quiet and calm surroundings punctuated by the beauty of nature and wildlife.
