Be prepared for the stairs.

Well kept cottage. Beautiful views of the lake. The location is great for quick access to restaurants and state parks for hiking. We felt safe and our dogs were welcomed and comfortable. There was everything you could need for cooking. The only down side is the access from your car to the cottage. You just have to be prepared for the stairs down to, and up from, the lake. We had a great time.

Great Waterfront Location

Everything Keith described was to the tee. Loved the waterfront dock where we fished and used our own SUPs and OC1 watercraft although there are kayaks on the property. The upstairs room was spacious and the beds were clean and comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked. Water provided a plus. Washer/dryer was handy. There was a heat wave (90+ temp) so the AC came in handy. By the end of the week, temps dropped to 55 degrees at night so it was nice and cool and no AC needed. Watching the sun rise by the dock was so relaxing. Yes, there are 85 steps but a good workout up and down the stairs (we are 59-60 years old). The welcoming bottle of wine and homemade salsa was delicious. Close to town and loved the neighbors (disclosure - I am a Cornell Alumni.)

Great location, house needs some work.

The Good: The owner is very easy to contact: answered phone and texted to make sure we got there ok. Also left a bottle of wine and salsa for us upon arrival. The location is really nice along the water in a quiet group of historic cottages with great sunrise views and dock with easy water access and fire pit. The house location is great in the finger lakes region with many things to do nearby and feels like a very safe area. The OK: The house itself is in desperate need of exterior cleaning and paint. The interior has some dated furniture on the first floor with kitchen/laudry/bath. The second floor has a queen bed with 2 additional bunk beds. Bed comfort level was just ok; sheets looked clean. The bad: Getting to and from the house is exhausting with or without any load to carry. It's located 80-90 steps down a path and steep stairs from where you park the car. It's shown in the pics so I was aware; just didn't realized how much I'd travel them during our stay since we like to get out a do things. The old cottage has a lot of character but is full of cracks/crevices between the wood siding that allow many assorted bugs & spiders to freely travel. During our 3-night stay I was awoken a few times to find them crawling on me. Finally, the water situation is a mess. There appears to be an issue with the water pump or supply even though we only completed 2 loads of laundry and showered only once each during our stay. You definitly can't do both at the same time. The water will run out multiple times during a laundry cycle and takes forever to run a single load. And during a very quick shower, the water will suddenly run out. You then have to wait for the pump to regenerate the supply multiple times while rushing to complete a shower. This was our first time to the finger lakes and for the price we paid, I expected a little more. The location is great (near town, and maybe that's what you are paying for) with a great view from the dock but next time I'd probably stay elsewhere. I'd say this cottage is better suited for people staying on the property during the day (not climbing the stairs) or if you had a boat.

A wonderful lakeside experience!

We had a great stay here and loved being on the water. The cottage is as adorable in person as in the pictures! I knew being on the water spiders and insects would be part of the package, but if you have spider issues, you might want to rethink this property. I was unnerved by how many places throughout the cottage weren't sealed (you can see daylight in many places) and my first thought was to check right back out. Two things prevented me from doing that and one of those was having to carry everything right back up all those steps to the car, lol! The other thing that stopped me (and gave me courage) was how much the boys loved this place! It is right out of a storybook and so darn cute!

If you want water....

Great to be on the lake — wonderful sunrises, kayaking, swimming, listening to the waves as zzzzz. The inside is very comfortable and nicely decorated. Kitchen is well stocked with dishes, glasses, etc. Thank you to the owners for leaving homemade salsa and a bottle of local wine. My only comment would be the outside of this lovely historic house seems little neglected; sprucing up of gardens, bench, etc. Very cool location.

Long weekend in the Finger Lakes

Spectacular setting! True treat to be able to experience staying in such a historic lake cottage. This is the essence of VRBO Vs staying in a cookie cutter hotel. Thank you

Great house

This is a great house with beautiful views. The kitchen is well-equipped, beds comfortable, etc. If there's a downside, it's that the steps to get to the house (and back up!) are steep and there are a lot of them. Also, the bathroom is on the first floor and the beds are upstairs. Other than that, we loved it. The weather was a little cool when we were there, but we were still able to enjoy sitting on the porch, the kayak and the fire pit. The owner is easy to communicate with, and even leaves you a welcome jar of homemade (delicious) salsa and a bottle of wine! If steps aren't an issue for you, I highly recommend.

Cute lake cottage

Very cute lake cottage. We had a really relaxing and lovely stay. Beautiful location, views and the lake is wonderful for swimming and kayaking. Easy to get to/from center of Ithaca. Great resource material in the house to guide you to all the local beauty. Nice running/walking trail right across the street. The house is rustic and the neighbors are very close. Since it's just a summer house you can hear the neighbors very clearly...but you're paying for the waterfront beauty which is hard to beat! Kitchen has everything you need. Would reccommend for rustic, lake front get away!

A Classic Beauty

I don't normally write reviews, but this spot was really lovely. It was our first time to the finger lakes. First, the cottage is incredibly charming and very clean, prettier than in the pictures. The renovation on the interior kept the character of the space intact. We're a family of three, but it would very comfortably sleep a close-knit family of six. Beds and linens were very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and well lit, if you turn on the light over the sink and over the stove. The natural gas heater heats the water in the shower really fast, and it stays hot. The gas grill works really well. Keith, the host, kept a respectful distance but responded very quickly when we couldn't figure out the (very easy to use) grill (our fault, we just haven't had one in 20 years). The other houses are close, but we weren't bothered during a midweek stay. The neighbors immediately on either side are a little quiet and seem to prefer that. We were pretty quiet anyway, but we relaxed a bit more when the other local family showed up. So if you prefer quiet, you're insulated. If your kids make a racket, you'll have company a few houses away. We spent most of our time just wandering from preparing snacks and meals in the kitchen to wandering out to the dock, where we and our dog swam and intermittently fished. We also kayaked. I woke up every morning before dawn and watched the sunrise over the east side of the lake and watched ducklings learn how to fish. Then I'd turn and watch the birds rustle around in the trees above the house. Honestly, the house is so beautiful, I enjoyed staring at it in the morning light as well. Taughannock Falls is 7 minutes up the road, buttermilk falls is a 15 minute drive. We didn't have time for more than those two, but they are impressive, especially the hike at Buttermilk falls. THere's so much more to check out and we feel sure we'll go back. It's not secluded, not hidden on a big property, but it's an unobstructed view of a beautiful lake, and people are just enjoying the setting in their own ways. We were just sad our stay wasn't longer.

Needs some tlc

The inside of the property has had some renovation but the floors and exterior are in need of some fresh paint, looks a bit run down from the outside. The 2 outside porch areas in particular and the floors were very dusty/dirty and looked like they hadn’t been cleaned for sometime. Had we not arrived late on the 1st night my wife would have left as there are no curtains in any room and you have to shower downstairs and then walk through the whole house to go upstairs and dress in the bedroom which has at least 6 windows, bearing in mind the shared steps at the side of the house go near one side if the house and the garden at the front of the house is a public footpath which can be used by anyone day or night. If you want any privacy this is not the property for you, we bought rolls of wrapping paper and taped them at the windows.

Home full of charm and character right by the lake

We had a lovely time in this charming house sitting right on Lake Cayuga. It's more or less impossible not to see the water from the home's two rooms and we enjoyed staying in the house as much as visiting the numerous nearby attractions. The barbecue and fire pit are a big plus and motivated us to spend a couple evenings by the lake rather than going out, allowing us to catch sight of a great blue heron, a couple kingfishers, and many cormorants. The host was as discrete as helpful and thoughtful. Next time we visit the area, we hope the cottage will be available.

My family and I had a perfect stay! The Baier’s went above and beyond in all respects!

I thoroughly enjoyed this small slice of the world! The Baier’s were readily available to answer questions and very helpful in orienting us to the cottage, the surrounding area and It’s possibilities. Neighbors are friendly and helpful! The cottage itself is fully equipped. The location is central. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle but close enough for convenience. My daughter participated in the sailing camp at the Ithaca yacht club nearby and we strolled over every morning with our dog. I could see the boats from the balcony of the cottage. iYC also is a very friendly place with good food. My daughter had an excellent week as a novice sailor. The cottage is a perfect place to kick back and relax. It is cozy, yet will comfortably accommodate family in the bunk room. The beds were comfortable and the storage adequate for my 10 day stay. I cooked almost every day and enjoyed being in the the well equipped kitchen. I swam every day in the lake and we kayaked as well! Board games supplied by the cottage were available to us as well as a TV with cable, Netflix and DVD player. Eating out on the dock was fun! I hope to return next year!!
