About this property

Charming Cottage Near I-5 and Golf Course

Private guesthouse in Myrtle Creek, Oregon just steps away from the 18-hole world-class Myrtle Creek Golf Club.

Conveniently located just 1.8 miles from EXIT 108 on I-5 in South Douglas County.

The 600-square foot guesthouse has hardwood floors throughout that were reclaimed from a local high school gymnasium. The previous owner was an interior designer who put all her heart into the property after the loss of the love of her life.

On-street parking. Private entrance. Scenic views all around.

Our property has stairs. Please review our property photos.

You may use the entire cottage and its yard. You'll park in front of the main house, then walk down the stairs to the cottage.

PRIVACY: the cottage can only be seen from the Golf Course Club House and the deck of the main house. See photo in listing.

We have two security cameras located in the driveway and on the main house deck pointing east. There are no cameras at or in the cottage.

NATURE at your doorstep: On our property we have deer, (we have a doe that usually beds down with her fawns under the cedars just outside your living room window), raccoons, opossums, fox, the occasional skunk and there is a trail that the nutria take from the wetlands area between the cottage and the golf course that ends in your front yard. The frogs will serenade you in the evening during certain times of the year and the stars are bright.

Birds are plentiful, from hummingbirds to Canada geese. We have hawks, falcons, all number of small birds and lots of wild turkeys.

AMENITIES: Free Internet access - WiFi and Ethernet, streaming video, refrigerator (not tiny, but apartment-sized), microwave, induction cook top with all pots, pans and utensils. Toaster oven and grill on request!

DECOR: The cottage was built with a very country / farmhouse style. It has dutch doors, reclaimed gymnasium hardwood floors throughout, vaulted ceilings. There are cool stories behind everything inside.

Sleeping arrangements: The cottage is ideal for 1 or 2 guests ( a couple) as there is only one bed (Queen).

The bathroom has a shower. It does not have a bathtub.

We are situated at the end of a cul-de-sac on a short street. Our neighbors are nice! Since you'll be staying on the south side of the property, the only interaction you'd have with the neighbors would be when you come and go, as the parking is in front of the main house.

Please do not smoke or vape anything in or near the cottage. If smoking of any kind has occurred, we must do a complete deep clean as we are a smoke-free facility. This will incur a $250 charge for your group. Thank you for understanding.

If you are golfing for your stay, no vehicle necessary! The golf course is literally next-door. For everything else, a car is needed. There are plenty of walking options if you're into nature walks, but to get to restaurants and venues, you will need a vehicle. We'll provide a local map if you need one :)

2018 was our first year hosting travelers. We hope to make your stay comfortable and memorable! We love people and are friendly. However, we will respect your privacy at all times! On the other hand, if you'd like to share a cup of coffee sometime, come on up and say hello :)

ABOUT THE TOWN: Myrtle Creek has a motto: "Where nature is your neighbor." The town is nestled in one of Douglas County's more beautiful valleys right on the South Umpqua riverbank. It is also is known as "The gateway to the 100 valleys of the Umpqua". It is a small, friendly community with small town appeal, but also modern with the times.

Adorable Cottage
This cottage is perfect. The owner/host was very nice, she was there for you whenever you needed anything, and gave you full privacy when you didn’t. It’s clean, comfy, and cozy with an amazing view of the mountains and a golf course. Adding to that, it’s pet friendly and there plenty of great places to walk your dog. I I highly recommend this place, just be aware that there’s about 25 stairs that gradually descend downhill to the cottage.

Cute little cottage
There is only one bedroom. The listing says two , but when you look at what type of beds in the listing, it says the couch pulls out to a bed, that pull out is in the living room. Definitely not for two couples. Family with one or two small children would work great. Don't plan on cooking meals, no room for preparation. There are plenty of dishes and utensils , There is a toaster oven and a single induction cook top but you have to put it on the small little counter and then it takes up most the space. If you do not need to prepare any meal 's , This place is adequate. It is a bit confusing when you first pull up, this cottage is behind the house and down about 25 steps in the hosts back yard/deck . Loading and unloading is difficult to say the least. It is very quiet, good air conditioning and three ceiling fans to circulate the air (it was 98 the day I arrived). Very private with the exception of the racoon that visited me at 10pm while I was sitting outside. I am not sure who scared who the most. we both ran. Very good communication with Anya, any time I sent a message it seemed she answered me within minutes. All and all great little place just a little expensive for a one bedroom in the location its in and no indoor privacy { the wall between the living room and bedroom is a 3/4 wall the top is open, and its double glass doors} and considering the difficulty of access to the unit.

Nice spot in Myrtle Creek!
My family stayed for one night on our way up the west coast. Was a great spot in good shape - kids had a blast exploring nearby outdoors. Owners were great and incredibly friendly. Cottage is completely separate and a bit of a distance from the main house, so no concerns with privacy. The property was just what we needed and had everything we'd want. Would happily return!

A quiet spot to rest
We stopped for only one night as we drove up the west coast. We have two large breed dogs - which the owner graciously allowed! The cottage is behind the main home and down a very well maintained and lit set of stairs; because it's down a bit it feels very private from the main house. Lots of nice big windows and a view to the golf course beyond. Plenty of room inside for us to relax and catch up on work emails, watch some TV, and fall asleep to the lovely sounds of frogs outside - not something we get a lot of in our daily routine! The town does roll up the sidewalks early particularly in the winter season, but we took advantage of some recommendations in the welcome binder and got ourselves a nice dinner-to-go from the local diner. Would recommend to anyone wanting some quiet downtime, or looking for an alternative to the off-the-highway hotel options that usually come with a road trip. Thank you!!

Quaint and convenient
I booked this place because it allowed dogs and was close to my parents home. It was perfect and exactly as described. It was bigger than i expected as well. The host, Anya, was so nice and accommodating. The only things that would make it better would be a small stove and more cabinet space for groceries. I would definitely stay here again though.

Peaceful and comfortable
Cougar Canyon Cottage was the perfect landing place for our family as we made our way from CA to WA to our new home. We enjoyed a week of rest and were able to re-energize in Myrtle Creek halfway through our journey. We absolutely loved the peacefulness and the sheer beauty of the location. Added to that was the thoughtfulness of our hosts in providing a well appointed cottage which was stocked with everything we might need and more! Both the check-in and check-out processes were easy to understand and our hosts were great at communicating with us. We really couldn't have had a better experience that what we enjoyed at Ken & Anya's place. We look forward to coming back some time soon.

Bright and cozy with the kindest hosts
We stayed at the cottage while in town for a family event, which we booked after we were unable to find hotel rooms, and we are so glad we did as our stay was so much more comfortable and pleasant than any hotel could have provided. The cottage was so inviting - perfectly clean and cozy, with comfy furniture, and stocked with coffee, tea, and breakfast items - all of which afforded us the luxury of peace and relaxation at our 'base camp' during what was a bit of a hectic weekend. Furthermore, Anya and Ken were incredibly accommodating and worked with us to add an extra night to our reservation (with almost no notice) when we found that we needed to be in town for another day. Anya responded nearly immediately any time we reached out, so between the excellent communication, their kindness and flexibility, and the wonderful accommodations, we sincerely couldn't have asked for anything more. Thank you, Anya and Ken, for sharing your home with us and for the peace of mind you enabled while we were there. We will absolutely be looking to stay at the cottage again next time we are in town!

ANYA:
Hi there! I'm Grandma of two boys and the wife to Ken. We host our charming cottage in Myrtle Creek in Southern Oregon.

I'm a writer, hobby photographer and avid nature lover! I love coffee and good food, and volunteering in the community.

Instagram @cougarcanyoncottage

KEN:

Hi, I'm married to Anya, my co-host and my wife of 25 years.

I am an instructor for Umpqua Community College Truck School.

I enjoy the quiet and slow pace of our little community as well as photography, reading, and volunteering in the community.

Why they chose this property

We were looking to slow our pace of life down. Friends of ours lived here, and we came to visit.

We instantly loved it as we exitied the freeway and saw the Myrtle Creek Bridge spanning the South Umpqua River.

It is definitely small town living, however the nearest "big" town is just 15-20 minutes north - Roseburg. Why, it took us that long to go shopping in San Diego, with all of the stop lights and traffic! A leisurely mountain drive is much preferred.

We love it here and regret NOTHING!

What makes this property unique

We know you'll love it here. Artists and writers have come for the quiet. Families have come to visit their local relatives. We've had traveling nurses and lovely new residents coming to stay while their new home is in escrow.

We have some beautiful reviews you're welcome to look through. People love being able to relax in the quiet, peek out the window and see the deer, or take a short walk to one of Oregon's covered bridges, the Neal Lane Bridge.

Of course, if you like to golf, you can walk next door and enjoy Myrtle Creek's 18-hole world-class golf course. The course is stunning, and climbs up into the hills, has ponds, and spans the creek. Crossing Days Creek Cutoff Rd, when you get to the top of the course, wait until you see the view of the valley!

Pets are welcome here on approval, and there's plenty of places to walk your dog.

For chemically sensitive individuals, we are happy to tell you that we only use fragrance-free laundry detergent.

There are so many unique benefits to staying here. In fact, you might not ever want to leave!
